Hoping for support for the new apple shareplay feature being released in the fall for FaceTime on all apple devices! Would be awesome to be able sync playback with family members to watch movies and shows together without being in the same location2 points

I think I'll declare the current beta 5.3.2 as stable by next weekend. I'll also upload 5.3.3 into beta repo after 5.3.2 is merged. Anyway, 5.3.3 will only have some minor additional bugfixes, trakt issue fix, (temporary) music db fix and homevideo fix. The next version with major improvements will be 5.4.0 or probably jump to 6.0.0.2 points

Hi, I would like to have an option to choose H265 instead of H264 in the Transcode option. It will be smaller for all bad bandwidth (2~5Mbit ADSL), but will have a great quality. Mobile phone can benefit of it greatly too with the 4G and the limitation of download.1 point

My request is to be able to chose to add items to the home screen. Specifically in my case, I am thinking of playlists and collections. Here's some reasons I'd like to see this: The home screen is the first piece of the user interface a person will see when they pull up Emby. I often places movies in bulk into my media library. This sometimes means people never see the new movie I've made available. Happens a lot, actually. While all movies are searchable or can be found by sorting, I believe the interface would benefit from having the customization option. I have created a "Justin Recommends" collection and would LOVE to be able to put that on the home screen. By keeping this optional, no one is forced to use it. If you don't have a use-case, then it's just a feature. If you look at things like Netflix, many movies and shows get "featured" and by doing that, a lot of people end up watching that wouldn't otherwise (imagine if The Tiger King was just another buried documentary you had to hunt for, no one would have heard of it). I appreciate your time. If you've considered this before and decided against for reasons other than difficulty implementing the feature, I'd ask you to reconsider. I believe that being able to customize our servers helps us personalize and tailor them to our audience and our needs, and that helps promote a feeling of ownership. I also truly believe that this small change could lead to some powerful results. In my case, I know that it would be of huge benefit to accomplishing what I would like to do with my Emby server. Thank you.1 point

Also, It would be cool if we have various m3u lists and have the option to choose/assign each m3u list for each user.. Example. In user settings we can choose which library to give them for VOD so this shouldnt be hard enough to do it for live tv too no? USER 1 - Playlist 1 - Playlist 2 - Playlist 3 USER 2 - Playlist 3 USER 3 - Playlist 1 - Playlist 3 Etc etc.... *** Delete this message from another topic I opened because I posted it by accident there1 point

I would like to see a plug-in developed which allows for transcoding to be offset. My thoughts are for a transcoding server (high powered pc), running cut-down/transcoding only version of Emby. Then on my main Emby server a plug-in which offsets transcoding to the high powered pc (if available) Originally I had thought of this as being a high availability server https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/41443-emby-server-high-availability But thinking about this more, my requirement isn't for high availability but simply to offset the transcoding elsewhere.1 point

Hello All As this topic comes up quite frequently, I've created this topic so we can consolidate the various threads and knowledge. Firstly, hardware transcoding requires an Emby Premiere License : https://emby.media/premiere.html We've provided dedicated packages for the XPEnology community from the outset, please see https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/40411-xpenology-users-read-me/ and https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Synology-:-Custom-Package-Architectures-for-XPEnology. The packages all include support for h/w transcoding, but access to the GPU has to be provided by your DSM installation. Whether or not the GPU is available, will primarily depend on the hardware and boot loader you are using. Whilst we'll certainly work with you and do all we can to help get your system running with h/w transcoding, we are not able to contribute directly to the XPEnology project. The first thing to do, if you believe your system does have a GPU that could be used and it's not available, is to run the 'Send Logs' utility and post the reference here for my attention : https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Synology-:-How-to-Send-us-Support-Logs If you have h/w transcoding working and have any suggestions or advice for other users, please do feel free to contribute and add to this topic. Hi I would really like to be able to send some custom notifications to my users For example, i would like to be able to send a notification like : -"What content would you like to see added on Emby this week ? https://www.strawpoll.me/#####" -"Blabla Season3 is coming next week !" -"Server will be down for maintenance tonight" A little notification icon on the top right corner would be awesome. I looked in the Feature Requests list but i did'nt find anything like that. Thanks for reading, and for this amazing software.1 point

It would be useful if the server (or perhaps clients) could cache most (if not all) content images (posters, backdrops, logos, etc) for movies, TV series and seasons. This would mainly be of benefit when a portion of someone's content is offline but the users would still like to view the content to know what exists. I think caching on the server would be preferable, then all clients could make use of the same cached images. if you think this would be a useful feature, please click the "Like This" button on this post.1 point

Hi is there a possibility to get a Parental Guidance Cleaner Plugin like the Genre Cleaner Plugin ? For US People probably has no sense but for people like me in Spain we end up having Movies with: ES-APTA, ES/A, ES-G, G ES-7, ES/7, ES-7, PG Etc. Now I've more than 60 different Parental Guide Codes for just 6 options (G, PG, PG-13, NC-17, R, X) Would be very useful to have somethig similar as Genre Cleaner to consolidate all Parental Guides for movies and TV Shows, otherwise it's impossible to filter by that. Thanks, and appologies if this is not the right forum section for this request.1 point

It seems to me that Emby has progressively removed features over the years. I discovered recently that I can no longer view my movies by Studio (this seems to be a recent change). Viewing by Actor was removed quite some time ago (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/26944-missing-a-menu-option/). Can these features please be re-implemented? And can y'all PLEASE put in the changelog when a feature has been disabled or removed so that the end user can determine if upgrading will remove functionality previously depended on? Thx!1 point

Please read this post first. I was wondering if it would be possible to add something that would allow you to skip the intro to shows automatically while binge watching. When watching Netflix it does this for some shows, and im not sure if thats a feature of Netflix itself or a Chrome extension i use called "Flix Assist" but it would be a nice feature to have within Emby as well. and possibly even create a custom timed skip for specific shows1 point

Hi everyones! I don't known if I'm in the good section. I'm new on emby. I started to use it on my Synology NAS since one month and it is very powefull. I'm purchase a premium version. But I have some question for you - I saw some people explain to enable adult content, but I search in the plugin catalog or in parameters and I found nothing. What is the best way to enable adult content? Actually I do everything manually (pictures, actors, etc...) - I have movies, with multiple scene, and different actors. Is it possible to aggregate it to one movie, but with these different actors or pictures? I tried to naming (ex: movie pt1.mkv, movie pt2.mkv, movie pt3.mkv), it create one movie, but scenes are disorder, and actors are for one movie, not each scenes. - My emby server is on 4.3.1.0 on my Synology NAS, it say there is a new update 4.4.1.0 but in synology package center, I'm up to date. Why I can't update my server? Thank you for your help guys1 point

hey what I'm really missing is support for audiobooks. Simply saving the resume point for those mp3s would be absolutely enough, no need to fetch metadata etc.1 point

Nothing to worry about. Unless you configure converting/backing up files including the location nothing will happen automatically. You have nothing to worry about data cap wise with any feature like this.1 point

If you enable "stats for nerds" of the video player OSD inside the cog/playback menu does it show as "Play method: DirectPlay" or does it show something else? My guess is these are MKV which have a compressed header or have put chapters at the end. You might have to simply Remux those MKV with MKVToolNix GUI or run them through MKClean. That should clean up the headers. That is all this is. The Roku is imcompatible with the media because it cannot read the header of the MKV to determine the runtime correctly. We cannot detect in the application when headers are this way. We do not know what the Roku does not like about those headers. We assume it will play correctly and DirectPlay just fine. In this case that isn't happening and we do not know what the Roku dislikes about certain MKV headers just that it is a fact. Running the MKV through MKClean or MKVToolNix GUI will solve your problem guaranteed. You can also use "Attempt Playback Correction" to force the container to change to TS and remux both streams directly but that will DirectStream instead of DirectPlay. It still will copy both video/audio and any other streams but the container will change from MKV and use segmented TS inside an m3u8 manifest using HLS.1 point

For 4.6, I had to update my querying for collection items to differentiate between collections and playlists. 'ListIds' still worked for Playlists, but the new collections had to be queried by 'CollectionIds'. long[] collectionItemIds = new long[]{}; if (isPlaylist) { collectionItemIds = _libraryManager.GetInternalItemIds(new InternalItemsQuery() { ListIds = new[] {collectionInternalId} }); } else { collectionItemIds = _libraryManager.GetInternalItemIds(new InternalItemsQuery() { //this is a new thing for 4.6 collections CollectionIds = new[] {collectionInternalId} }); }1 point

Hi, what do you need the full file path for?1 point
-
You show us it displaying in season 2 as episode 1 and the NFO says the same thing. Since you're supplying the NFO file that's what Emby is going to read in regardless of where it resides on disc. The location on disc really isn't needed to help identify the show/episode because you've provided it in the NFO file. If you want it to display in a different season then edit the metadata/NFO file to set the folder you want it to display in. But right now, but all counts, it is doing what it should be doing from everything you're showing us.1 point
-
By the looks of it it this should only affect display. But with clockworks any change has the potential to get ugly.1 point
-
That's never really going to work well. You really want to create specific libraries for Movies, for TV Shows, for Music, etc You can then use many different 3rd party utilities to automatically rename your files and even create proper folder structures for you. One such tool is FileBot. Here's a couple guides for file naming: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159110-tv-naming1 point

Even giving the user the ability to choose tabs, it is still a question of space as we'd have to limit the number they can choose. But, that is our ultimate goal. It just doesn't happen with a snap of the fingers. We are a large, complex set of programs and apps and there are a lot of things we are working on. This is just one of them. Thanks.1 point

Sooner or later: most probably, but to be honest: I don't have a clear picture of these things, because there are so many profiles and sub-variants of Dolby-Vision. For some, there are public and even standardized specs, for others, details a private and need to be reverse-engineered. Some are HDR10 compatible, others are not. This is a total mess. And absolutely not required to do what it's supposed to do. My personal suspicion is that Dolby does that to confuse all those that are not their licensors and still try to be compatible. Nobody would need Dolby for that at all. I would just avoid Dolby as much as possible. They are not providing an innovation here for which any patents should have been granted.1 point

Setting a startup delay seems to have improved things a lot. What I did: update metadata of about 400 episodes/movies with TMM so there were substantial changes to sync. Started Kodi on the Fire stick. Yesterday before setting a startup delay, it took about 10 minutes after E4K connected before the sync started. Today with a 30 seconds startup delay, after E4K connected, the sync started about 1 minute later.1 point

Thanks for apology, Luke. It was indeed a disruption. Fortunately the xml files for my old collections were retained, and I managed to recreate my collections manually per the information contained within after the suggested third-party plug-in didn't. Yes, it was an inconvenience, but a minor one, and not enough for me to abandon Emby. I've used it happily for several years now, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future...1 point

I certainly agree that audio and video are more important than ebooks, given that audio and video are what Emby is all about. That said, audio and video work perfectly for me and for many users, so if I were the project manager my thought would be that this is a good time to give a little love to other functionality. (Honestly, I don't care about live TV. I don't use it and don't intend to. I don't know if I'm odd in that regard or not, but when I turn on the TV I am far more likely to watch Emby than CNN.) The 3 areas of functionality I see that aren't entirely up to snuff from my perspective are books, video games, and remote use of Emby. I'm not quite sure how video games would work and I'm not sure Emby can do much about remote use given that Emby doesn't control the Internet router or firewall, so that leaves books. (I suspect Photos could use a little love too, but it works and I haven't paid a lot of attention to how it could be improved.) I am presently trying to group many ebooks into a collection with the related videos. In Calibre it's very easy for me to search the books, they're grouped as a "Series" of the collection name I am filling, so I can search on the series name in Calibre and I get them all. Emby doesn't integrate with Calibre, so when I search for them in Emby I don't get most of the books, because Emby only looks at the title, so I have to search up each book separately in Emby and add it to the collection. Another problem I am having is that Emby is pointed at my Calibre collection, and in cases where Calibre has more than one format of the book (most of my ebooks, because Calibre does conversions and I've changed reader devices several times over the years) Emby doesn't recognize that the ebooks have a cover image (even though it's in the folder with the name "cover.jpg") so either I have to manually add the cover to the books or delete formats I'm not using at the moment. I see this as a bug. Also while Emby allows you to group videos (for example) together when you have more than one copy of the same video (for example, The Avengers in 720p, 1080p, and 3D could be listed as one item with one poster), when you have more than one version of an ebook, all versions are listed separately and you can't group them. As I have up to 5 different versions of some books (and most of my ebooks are in multiple formats), my ebook collection looks very cluttered (and mostly without covers, although mostly they're there) in Emby. Here's my perspective: When I am at the TV, I choose to use Emby. When I am sitting at my server (which, being a normal person, is my desktop), I find the video or audio in the file structure and watch it with VLC, find the photo and open it with Windows Photos, and use Calibre for my ebooks. I would like Emby to be good enough that when I'm at my server I don't find it easier to go into the file system, find the file, and use a specialized program on it.1 point

Often times when I see "Reason for transcodng: Media bitrate exceeds limit." in the info I wonder, what kind of internet connection do they have? I know this can cover multiple scenarios like bandwidth limit set for user, server, client side quality setting, as well as AUTO bandwidth detection... Can you PLEASE add to the dashboard the returned client bandwidth capabilities? The value you are getting from the client that tells emby its bandwidth abilities. While you are at it tighten up the spaces between lines on the transcode items, and align the results to the right instead of center.. MAYBE SOMETHING LIKE THIS :1 point

Emby definitely needs booker reader functionality, cataloging books without the ability to read them within the app is just pointless. I would like to see this added when possible1 point

Hi, i'd love that search engine look for tags in complement with the filenames. For example i'd like to tag all my family "ski" videos so when i search for the work "ski" they are listed. Or is there an alternative to do that with the actual features ? Regards1 point
-
Being able to stop watching an active recording and resume where I left off, either later or on another device, is a key feature. The resume function on previously recorded files works great. Providing this same capability for active recordings would be great. Sports provide an easy scenario. I usually start watching 30 to 60 minutes after the start of the game so that I can skip over a lot of the dead time (commercials, time outs, etc.) and focus on the game. Over the course of a 3+ hour game, I inevitably have interruptions and often move my watching from one device to another. Today, the only way to support this is to stop/re-start recording, effectively creating a "resume" point. While effective, it's an annoying process. Enabling "resume" on playback of active recordings would make this seamless.1 point
