  1. Emby Server 4.6 is currently rolling out. Here are the highlights. Rewritten Music Scanning This 4.6 release will rescan your music library. We apologize if this causes any inconvenience. This solves a lot of our previous music-related shortcomings, specifically: Any folder structure now accepted, no matter how clean or dirty Albums are now fully tag driven and are no longer tied to folders Local metadata for albums will still be supported, and local metadata for artists will be back as well. This will be the only feature of a music library that will require a predictable folder structure. If you enable these options you'll need to have an artist\album\track folder structure, otherwise you'll likely end up seeing nfo files and images in unexpected places. You'll need to use your music library options to indicate your music folder structure if you'd like to use local artwork. Preserve original order of tagged genres, artists, album artists, tags, etc. Support multiple musicbrainz id's tagged on songs and albums Support for composers Library metadata options for artists now working again (and still working for albums) The Folders tab is now an actual folder view and will work properly as such Music Composer Support This was mentioned above, but if your audio files are tagged with composer values, then you'll now see a new Composers tab in your music library: Improved Database and User Interface Performance All Emby apps should feel snappier than ever thanks to a plethora of new improvements in your Emby server database. Reworked Collection Storage Model Collections have now been reworked to be based on the set tag in your nfo files (if you use nfo). The popular AutoBoxSets plugin is now a built-in feature: HDR Tone Mapping When Transcoding Check out the new options in the server transcoding menu! If you have a server machine powerful enough, you can now enjoy tone mapping when transcoding. No more washed out colors ! Combined Next Up and Continue Watching Hopefully this is not a controversial one, but our out of box behavior is now a Netflix-style Continue Watching list, with everything together: If you prefer the old Next Up section, you can use your Emby user home screen settings to add it back as a configuration section. New Live TV Channel Management Screen This is a new WMC-inspired channel management screen that will allow you to quickly disable channels you don't want, drag and drop re-order, edit channel names, channel numbers, and map channels to guide data. Just click on a channel to edit the options: Support for Live TV Channel Groups (via Tags) Use the above editor to add tags to channels, and now you'll see a new Tags tab in your Live TV section. Automatic importing of groups in m3u tuners is also supported. You can even group your channel display into Tags if desired: Improved Performance of Live TV Guide Refresh The live tv guide refresh process for all live tv should be slightly improved (5-10% faster). But if you're using xmltv guide data, you can expect major, dramatic improvements in the neighborhood of about 70% faster. To give you an example of the improvement, on a guide with 4000 channels, the guide data refresh has gone from roughly 2.5 hours to 45 minutes. Multiple Channel Logo Support Using Emby Guide Data, the server now downloads multiple logos per channel in different colors. This way our apps can choose the most appropriate logo based on your chosen color scheme in the user interface. If you don't use Emby Guide Data, you can still configure these logos manually using the image editor. Multi-Select List Items Lists now have the same multi-select management features that you've already grown accustomed to in poster views. Multi-Select Filtering When you filter by genres, tags, studios and other criteria, you can now select multiple. New User Profile Options to Control Remembering Track Selections For both audio and subtitles, you can now control whether or not track selections are remembered, as well as clear your remembered tracks anytime you wish. New Field Display Options The 3-dot menu above lists has been enhanced to allow new fields to be displayed: This allows you to see ratings in lists if desired. New and Improved Image Editor It comes with the following improvements: Dedicated options to set an image from a url All image slots visible in the editor to allow you to easily see what can be customized Easy drag and drop backdrop reordering New Live Button in Live TV Guide As you scroll ahead in time, now you can easily jump back to the live time with the press of a button. Live TV Programs Grouped in Suggestions and Search You'll now see Shows and Movies grouped as one single entry, rather than separate entries for every single airing. When you click on a show, you'll then see all of the showing for it: This will make it easier to find shows and movies that you'd like to watch and record. Improved Single Channel Screen Display The single channel listings not only perform better, but now also display much more information than before. Remove from Continue Watching Would you like to get something out of continue watching, but without having to lose your watch progress? Now you can: This will remove it from the Continue Watching menu, and it will reappear if you start watching again. Context Menu Improvements The addition of the title and poster should help make the menus a little more fun to use. Improved DLNA Support DLNA fans will appreciate the following enhancements: Improved device discovery Improved ability for other devices to discover your Emby Server Greater compatibility with more devices More efficient communications, less chatter on your network between Emby Server and your devices Auto-detection of supported audio and photo formats. No profiles needed if your device is also a digital media renderer (DMR) ! Supporting this for video playback is a much more complex task but we plan to incorporate this in future updates. Other Improvements Support multi-select remove from playlist/collection Improve Linux QuickSync support Adjust extracted images for HDR videos Add favorites to context menu Add mark played to context menu Run sqlite optimize on server shutdown Unify live tv channel sorting options in all places (guide, channels tab, on now, etc) Rework display of locked fields in metadata editor Support special episodes in Continue Watching & Play All Add hidden config switch to optimize databases on shutdown Improve detection of supported formats for Dlna devices Include all subtitle streams with conversion and download features, when possible Prefer D3D11 QuickSync codecs by priority Add h264_mmal decoder Improve 3D detection from file names Support SXXEXX episode numbers in xml tv guide data Ensure proper handling of yuv422p10 color format Improve Dlna device detection Significantly reduce Dlna message chatter with devices on the network Support series-id tags from xmltv Support discnumber audio tag in addition to disc Make determination of series recording path a little smarter about finding existing series in the library Restore death date on person detail screen Default folder browsing to list when all items are audio tracks Improve dynamic data refreshing on detail screen Add adult metadata library option Move option to save metadata as hidden files to per-library option Sanitize data from metadata editor to prevent accidental user error such as trailing spaces Update scheduled task logging to try and avoid preventing Synology NAS servers from being able to sleep Improve MMAL codec support Improve Roku remote control support Rework device access with new user permission to hide users from login screens on devices they've never signed into before Support episode backdrops in season folder Support extras in playlists Add HDR info to video stream titles Check first IP address of x-forwarded-for Have real-time monitor ignore .DS_Store Prefer Artist tag over Artists when there is only one artist Improve handling of invalid content-type header when downloading images Add home videos landing screen option Support clicking individual text items in list items Add profile checking for MP2Video hardware decoders Support playback speed control during audio playback Add button to clear filters when no results are returned Add Nvidia NVDEC decoder variant for HEVC VAAPI: Use color formats from detection Prevent ffmpeg hw processing of 10bit when device doesn't support it Support EP.01 episode naming Resolve slow file read/write performance on Windows Improve recovery from invalid configuration in the lan networks setting Improve detail screen backdrop display Make media info visible accessible in TV display mode Reduce messaging from server to android and iOS apps causing the app background processes to run Show songs on artist detail screen Add delete, download and preview functions to external subtitle tracks in media info section Support downloading subtitles during video playback Support manipulating the play queue of remote controlled players Update same time recording threshold to 15 minutes Improve local network address detection Block windows 8 & 2012 from using http2 Add http version to server log Improve subtitle track selection when always show subtitles is selected Expand artist split whitelist Improve ability of other devices to discover emby server New search interface for mobile and desktop Add top results section to search Improve searching for songs using album name Bug Fixes Fix rare case of tuner being left open following a recording with a series whose name ends in a dot Fix episode images being saved with incorrect file name Fix custom collection images reverting to default auto-generated images Fix repeated unzipping in xmltv provider, causing excess disk space to be consumed Fix genre screen occasionally being empty depending on where you came from Add additional fixes for downloading txt format subtitles Fix odd, alternating behavior when refreshing metadata while replacing images Fix incorrect conversion job status being reported when converting Various fixes for codec level detection Fix key presses affecting video OSD while popup dialogs are open and have focus Fix remote control restarting playback in some cases Fix custom genre images being replaced Fix play all/shuffle on collections comprised of folders Fix successful audio conversions misinterpreted as failures Fix Nvidia HEVC level detection Fix interlaced video being incorrectly stream copied with HLS Fix remote play of playlists being sorted by name Fix webp image support not being used in certain cases Fix repeated subtitle downloads of .sub format Fix undefined dlna display name Fix channel logos intermittently disappearing while scrolling the guide in Firefox Fix incorrect iOS scroll after cancelling context menu Fix artists added to collections not showing View the full article

  5. Hi guys, I am sharing my server with my parents and my sister. My sister and I would like to have the metadata in English our parents on the other hand need to have a different language as they don't speak English. Have been looking in the settings but couldn't find anything that would allow this. So, is it even possible to set two languages for the metadata and then depending on the users language showing the one or the other language?

  9. If a proper Collection library is shown on Dashboard-Library it is unremovable as there is no Remove/delete option. You could shut down Emby and got to "C:\Users\username\Desktop\Stable\programdata\root\default" path will be platform prevalent and delete the Collections folder. This will cause Emby to show a Mix Content Collection folder that then can be remove and Emby will auto generate the correct one.

  10. FYI it depends on how many seasons you have in your library, rather than number of seasons the show actually aired.

  11. I have seen a number of my TV Series that did not refresh with all episode and season data after the update to 4.6 version of Emby Server. You may have to do a REFRESH METADATA on some series to get all episode information and season information to update and the display properly.

  14. Yep - just tested - it works great I now have a French library, which grabbed all the French metadata - and the videos are from the English library via strm files. I just need to check how strm permissions work across libraries - as I guess the idea is to permission the users to only show the French libraries (in my example) but this may block the strm - not sure at this point.

  17. Hi, I am a new Emby user and I can say I am impressed with it. I have been using Kodi for a long time and I rely to nfo files (it's my preferred choice for dealing with my media). Since Emby can't parse artwork from NFO files, I decided to give a try to local artwork. My problem now, my artwork is not in jpg and png files, I prefer it to be in webp format (smaller filesizes, massive savings especially in png files since png is lossless and huge in filesize). If I rename the webp artwork to png (for example poster.webp to poster.png) Emby reads and displays the webp artwork fine. So what I am requesting.. is it possible for Emby like Kodi does to read more image formats for local artwork and not only jpg and png? It's only an import issue, Emby imports and displays the webp artwork fine if I change the extension to png. Thank you in advance for any reply to my request Emby devs.

  18. As you probably know already, it's not uncommon for cartoons and anime episodes on dvd or television that multiple episodes are broadcasted in sequence as one. Emby already recognizes those multi-part episodes if they follow the naming convention: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV-naming#multi-episode-files But the content of the nfo's that are generated by Emby for those multi-part episodes is wrong! Emby concatenates the episode titles and the overviews into one single <episodedetails> tag where it should add a seperate <episodedetails> tag for every episode: https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files/TV_shows#TV_Episode_Tags In return, if a correct nfo with multiple <episodedetails> tags exist, Emby only reads the first <episodedetails> tag and thus only creates one episode in the tvshow library. 19. Sometimes when searching for a movie to watch I will set numerous filter criteria (Unplayed - Action - 2014 - PG13) for example. After Ive found what Im looking for its sort of cumbersome to have to go back in and unselect all the above individually. Any chance we can get a "clear all" button of some sort to get you back to viewing your entire library unfiltered? Plex does this and its very convenient. Thanks!

  20. Hello I've been testing the linux server and while Emby is great it seems to lack some basic functionality that other software has. First off, the Now Playing screen should have a quick hot link in the left pane to avoid navigation confusion. There is lot's of clicking involved in Emby to find things and to get the logical view of things. Navigation UI improvements could be done to streamline the experience. There is no shuffle option on the Now Playing nor is there a randomise order or remove duplicates option for the play queue. It would be useful to be able to manage the play queue more during playback. Auto tagging is a loose cannon. Seriously the feature is a mess maker. I have music in thematic folders which contain artists and so on. Emby sees the top folder as an album and desperately tries to name it despite it not being one. This causes chaos in tags. There should be an option to tag a folder as a folder not a metadata "object" and leave it alone. Images - uh this just does not work well at all, images keep changing on their own, reverting back to what they were and just a global mess really. Artwork does not really load from the web either despite plugins present. I have to do a lot of manual image uploading. There should also be an option to edit images in several files at once with the multiselect file option. Subtitles - a simple option to browse and load srt would be spot on, having to manually edit each subtitle file name is silly. Web streaming - a Youtube / web link plugin would be nice. Not to mention hooking up Netflix and so. Dashboard - continue listening does not load at all as a section Overall kudos for the work guys but still lot's to do. Given the lack of these major features for me I won't be buying the license until there is some further improvements as the product seems incomplete. The inability to test the apps before purchasing the license is also a bit unfair, how can I make a purchase if I haven't seen the whole product? A 1 week trial would suffice. Now que on backlash from my post ;)

  22. If I understand correctly Emby does not do multiple "episodedetails" in one nfo. Will have to look but pretty sure there are other topics. Reading and writing of nfo for multi-part episodes is wrong - General/Windows - Emby Community

  23. I understand that, but being that Emby is reading the tagged information from the track itself that is the place that you would need/want to change it.

  24. FYI. I have come across some TV Series that didn't seem to re-populate all episodes even after a full and completed library scan after the update to 4.6. I found a few while browsing and I'm sure I will find more as I stumble across them. For the ones that I did find, doing a REFRESH METADATA and selecting SEARCH FOR MISSING METADATA at either the Series Level or Season Level refreshed all episodes that previously were not displaying. Not sure why a full SCAN LIBRARY didn't pick these up, but as long as you can REFRESH at the Series or Season level it is manageable. You could also try doing the same REFRESH METADATA -- SEARCH FOR MISSING METADATA for the LIBRARY entry that points to all of your TV series. But, if thousands of episodes are missing that make take awhile to refresh and show up in the UI. I would first try at the series level, like for the LUCIFER series you mentioned in previous post.

  25. I've written a quick script - it automatically creates all the strm files for an entire library (if required) based on a simple input file specifying the original file locations and the new strm file locations. Once run, create a new library using the newly created path, set the metadata language etc to whatever you wish and then Emby does the hard work of populating the new library with the metadata in the library language and as a bonus also brings down the language specific artwork as well Permissions to the original files via the strm don't appear to be an issue - as I locked a test user to just use the new library, and it worked just fine. I'll post it in the tools section once I've done a bit more testing but so far it works well. Keeping the new library updated needs some thought but the simplest solution is to just re-run the script on a schedule - it won't re-create the strm file if it already exists.

  26. there is so much on your list when it comes to music. and nothing happens. and nothing happens, i pay for it every month. there are so many threads about the bad offline music library I live in Germany and unfortunately there is not wifi everywhere here, not even cell phone connectivity. More and more features are being added to emby, but the basic ones are being forgotten. "We're working on it". android auto offline mode is so bad there are so many things that the old software subsonic does better. Switch to offline mode pre cache playlist cache whole song not only a part of it differentiation between cache and permanent cache emby android client gets way too slow and crashes, I downloaded 45 GB of songs Why can't I completely delete my download list for a specific device? but i don't want to run airsonic and emby. I like emby and I like having my media in one place. I don't want to maintain two databases. when I start the download on the artist page, WHY can't I filter whether I have audio and / or video. I want my music with me on the go. My cell phone ran out of space when I still got the concert video from each artist. PLEASE PLEASE don't always forget the audio library and not only improve the media library. I don't want to use spotify. I hope you could understand my frustration, I speak very bad english.

  27. I don't believe you need to duplicate the video files at all - just use strm files to link to the original video file. The alternate library can have it's own metadata in whatever language you like - but you will need to duplicate all the bif, jpg, srt's etc - but those are tiny in comparison to the video file. I may have a play with this later to see what is achievable.

  28. Hi all, I just wanted to share this pretty straightforward method, that worked for me like a charm. (Truenas 12.0 Release) Step 1. From Truenas GUI, create an empty Jail version 12.2 with the default settings Step 2. Start the jail and open the shell from the Truenas GUI. It will open a shell with the root user. Step 3. Install emby with the given instructions for Freebsd 12. https://emby.media/freebsd-server.html In my case, i used the version 4.6.0.50, so the correct filename to use should be "emby-server-freebsd12_4.6.0.50_amd64.txz". I suggest to check if there's a newer version. It works perfectly in my Truenas system without any ffprobe/ffmpeg error. Hope this helps.

  29. I don't believe 4.6 treats strm files any different - it's effectively just a link to the real video file (and supporting nfo & jpg if you want metadata). The best way I have found to get 'specials or crossovers' played mid season is to create a 'fake' season 0 strm file and 'position it' using the extra 'special' metadata options. See here - as I wrote a script to automate this - you may be able to re-use some of the code logic. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/97225-auto-generate-tv-crossover-episodes-from-local-input-file/

  30. I think it was the plugin because when I removed it, the scan was fine and the server did not crash. @BillOatman I attached the log. Do I need to change something in my setup? embyserver-63757185567.txt embyserver-63757185819.txt

  31. Only thing standing out in one of the logs is Emby.Notifications.Discord plugin. Not sure if related at all as it only shows in one log. But you could test removing it. I know there is a lot of discussion in that topic recently. 2021-05-21 09:22:53.552 Error GlobalExceptionHandler: UnhandledException *** Error Report *** Version: 4.6.0.50 Command line: /opt/emby-server/system/EmbyServer.dll -programdata /var/lib/emby -ffdetect /opt/emby-server/bin/ffdetect -ffmpeg /opt/emby-server/bin/ffmpeg -ffprobe /opt/emby-server/bin/ffprobe -restartexitcode 3 -updatepackage emby-server-deb_{version}_armhf.deb Operating system: Linux version 5.10.17-v7l+ (dom@buildbot) (arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-8 (Ubuntu/Linaro 8.4.0-3ubuntu1) 8.4.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.34) #141 Framework: .NET Core 3.1.13 OS/Process: arm/arm Runtime: opt/emby-server/system/System.Private.CoreLib.dll Processor count: 4 Data path: /var/lib/emby Application path: /opt/emby-server/system System.NullReferenceException: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Emby.Notifications.Discord.Notifier.<CheckForMetadata>b__15_0(KeyValuePair`2 queuedItem) at System.Threading.Tasks.Task.<>c.<ThrowAsync>b__139_1(Object state) at System.Threading.QueueUserWorkItemCallbackDefaultContext.Execute() at System.Threading.ThreadPoolWorkQueue.Dispatch() at System.Threading._ThreadPoolWaitCallback.PerformWaitCallback() Source: Emby.Notifications.Discord TargetSite: Void MoveNext()

  32. hi guys I managed to get the old windows server drive booting on my test bench and emby started , all network shares showed up and i performed a backup, backup is currently restoring on the NUC, will let you know how it goes

  33. I would just let it run as your log shows hit and miss to Emby's Musicbrainz server. Basically overloaded with everyone updating to new stable release.

  34. Exactly this! That's why I don't understands Luke's post, it just doesn't make sense in this context...

  35. Correction I had to run the Scan Metadata Folder task also, as I did notice broken images in image editor on Collections.

  36. Ah yes. Right, right....gotta get my thinking away from the old method and remember that this is now just tag linking and not absolute path linking. Thanks.

  37. Alright, I just pushed an update for 4.6.0.50. You can grab it in the catalog or just wait for it to get pushed to your sever. @magelo @jordy @David Patt @DarWun

  38. Album name alone is not enough. You could have albums of the same name from two different album artists. that's why the album artist tag is needed.

  39. Could be related to the MusicBrainz server issue... my library scans have been taking a very long time since the upgrade and I can see from the server logs it looks like it's waiting for timeouts/exceptions to happen before moving the progress bar along. It gets there eventually.

  41. I've created a plugin that will copy all collection and people images from the old to the new location and update the database entries. It will also create nfo files if needed. Will post it at the end of the week.

  42. The reason I don't even try to use any views other than the folder view is because the hierarchy of the folders can be as deep as I wish - for instance: "Composers\Bartók\Chamber\String Quartets\Selected\1998 New York Trombone Quartet" (yes, I have Bartók's 4th String Quartet played on trombones - it works surprisingly well, even the pizzicato movement). Maybe your suggestion would help someone else, but certainly not me unless I seriously misunderstood it. Paul

  43. I'm not correcting deficiencies when I use the title tag to provide a title for my embedded audio tracks according to the mkv spec. Asking Emby to display that meaningful title doesn't mean I don't want to see the language tag for a given embedded audio track.

  44. Currently the real-time monitor is not active if a library scan is running. It's something we can look at improving in future updates. Thanks.

  47. The issue is (at least for me), which I made in the first post, that having a link that goes directly to the music section is not a solution if you can find your way out of the music section. This is an issue of getting family members who aren't au fait with technology getting frustrated because they've ended up inside "some location" of the app and can't find their way back to music. Once this happens, they simply stop using it. This is where Plexamp actually kicks ass, it's a music player, it plays music, it doesn't do anything else. It's hard to get lost inside the app, and if you do, you know that the user is lost in the music section because there is only a music section. Emby is a complete no go as a music player app in our household. I'll admit, when plexamp first came around I was a plex user for video and music and I was a bit peeved that they'd "wasted" time on a standalone music player, but i was wrong, it was one of the few feature "hits" that they got right. It's very simple to use and it's very pretty. I was very wrong on my first thoughts about the application. I'm a software developer, I have been professionally for 30+ years. What I might think is simple for people to use is not necessarily true, programmers tend to think differently. how many times have you as a developer discovered first hand that end users use software differently to programmers. How many times have you fully tested a feature to exhaustion and given it to a user only for them to find a bug in a manner of minutes.
