  1. I'd like to give a notification or pop up on playback to notify users their Emby client is transcoding, especially if they are transcoding 4k as it cripples the server. Whenever I find issues the user is usually completely unaware they are transcoding or causing issues for others as their steam is buffered.

  2. When setting up a new user I think it would be great if I could copy an existing user. Even better if you could copy certain aspects of a user like views , library access , parental settings

  3. We need a simple recall button badly! Just streamline the double play/pause button to recall the last channel. Easy and can be pushed out to all platforms.

  4. @ebr Im pretty sure this has been requested so my apologies but I cant find it so I am requesting this again here. Please move if you feel the need. What are the chance of getting the ability to bring up the guide when using the excellent Virtual TV plugin in Playlist mode? Really ruins the experience to have to stop playback just to see what else is on "TV". Thanks!

  5. Got this taken care of for now. Had a WIFI isolation problem (server uses WIFI) where the router wouldn't port forward to WIFI. There was also an IP6 tunnel, VPN and TOR installed causing grief. VPN but not running. But a lot of virtual networks and goofy routing.

  6. In my test this worked removing the disallowed studio.

  7. +1 on that. There's still features that came to Emby a year ago that I'm missing out because I have an LG TV. Either there's support for a platform or there isn't, it's not sane that a supported platform is lagging this much!

  8. Hi all Is it possible to add the option to display movie playlists in the same way that things like your media hubs/sections/nodes (whatever they're called in Emby) are displayed? At the moment, when I look at a movie playlist it just lists the title of each movie and basic info like run time, and then clicking on one just plays it. This type of display is fine for music where you can have loads of tracks, but for movies I want to be able to look at a playlist I've created, then see them displayed with larger posters, if I click on it I want it to take me to the actual movie details so I can see the details, watch a trailer, etc, but then move back to the playlist and do the same with others. I find that using playlists are a good way of creating short lists, watch lists, etc, but currently in Emby it makes them much harder to peruse because it is just like a list of files to play, whereas if it was displayed more as a way of grouping and looking at a selection of movies it would be much more useful. Collections show them this way and favourites kind of does. Kind of how Kodi displays movie playlists I guess. It would make playlists considerably more useful for movies than it currently is. The current way makes them mostly useless as a way of creating shortlists and quickly perusing them. Thanks!

  11. Hi. Yes, recordings are currently only based on programs from the guide. Manual recordings are on the to-do list. Thanks.

  12. Absolutely - getting the notification to an email, pushed etc is not the problem. I believe we just need a new notification type - some like 'Transcoding playback started' - maybe a subtype of 'Video playback stated' if there is such as thing ?

  13. In my opinion that's the main issue actually here. Auto doesn't always measure "correctly" and therefore leads to transcoding as the clients thinks the available bandwith isn't enough although it acutally is. Due to this behavior I just set all my clients to the max network speed and work around the issue but in a perfect world it would just work without me needing to adjust anything manually.

  14. That sounds like something that could be added to the notifications plug-in.

  16. In an upcoming software release. It's planned right now for a revamp, but not implemented. Like everything else it will hit beta before release so you can watch for it and test when it hits beta.

Gruss

  19. They will just use a flavour of OpenVPN - I'd stick to that as opposed to proprietary protocols as we know that is tried, tested and trusted. Have you thought about a segmented network design at all - ie the use of VLAN's - keeping media traffic off your main network for example ? If your switches support 802.1Q (I seem to recall you have netgear switches?) which should be compatible. This is another important aspect of network 'design' that gets overlooked and of course adds a very important layer of security as well.

  21. I think this would be really good to have icon on playing osd status if video is transcoding so user knows it, rarely users go to nerds statistics to see that information. Popup is not needed if u ask me, at least some icon on OSD that shows that video is transcoded. - users sometimes have bad connection and quality is than much lower due to transcoding and they are confused why is lower quality - 4k as Pog22 mentioned - bad configuration of client - old configuration of client (client limited bandwidth to some value and forgot to change it), this happens all the time - a lot messages to admin of server with questions about lower quality and user don't knows that video is transcoded (didnt check nerds section or don't know to read it) - etc...

  23. Then there is the other side of the router or WAN side. If you "think" you need 10Gig internally then you plan on moving lots of data around internally. If this is mainly for Emby use then you have to ask where all these clients are going to be located. If these are remote clients and you have at best a 1Gig connection to the Internet then that will always be your limiting factor and the speed of your internal network is mostly pointless. Where higher speed networking is quite useful is between different file servers or NAS boxes when you need to copy/move data around often. Keep in mind the majority of things you likely use won't support more than 1Gig like your Rokus, Android, FireCubes, XBox, PS4 and likely not your laptop/notebooks either. Low end NAS boxes from the likes of WD and Synology don't support more than 1Gig. Even a decent Synology box like the 920+ only has 2 1Gig connections. If your storage disks used for Emby are directly attached and not network shares then the speed of your network is even less important. So use matters a lot. Like @rbjtechmentioned you can overbuild and waste money on bandwidth that may never come close to getting used in all but the most extreme cases.

  24. I've seen a lot of home labs on the internet lately, and they all seem to run 10 gig lines between two separate redundant drive arrays for backups. I think for my home setup I'll have to use my cat 6 for one gig at the moment. I do intent on upgrading a full rack of ubiquity server stuff though.

  26. I dont know how the organizational structure is of the Emby team but it should be good to have a focus dev group for every platform. From my experience if even a komma is not taken into account, companies can reject it with ease. I agree that 14 months is ridiculous in terms of updates. But... Emby is still amazing so keep up the good work guys!

  27. This happens to me all the time. Same thing will happen if I leave a video playing and change inputs on my TV. When I return to Kodi it starts playing again but I only get audio. I can bring up the OSD as well but no video. Eventually it will buffer and stop. I don't have to quit Kodi to fix it though, just stoping and starting again brings back the video. It did this when I was using an Nvidia Shield 2017 and still does using the built in Android TV on my new Sony TV. I suspect this is some sort of EDID issue with the TV itself and not Kodi per say. I don't have any other software that tries to continue playing after sleep or input change so I cant verify that.

  29. Unfortunately you can't filter by rating which would be quite useful for your purpose. @@Luke can we add that to our filtering? You can however sort by critic rating. So you could sort by rating and search on person to achieve what you want. Basically put the highest rated films first. BTW, if you have "crap" films that you have to work around and ignore, why keep them? Free up the space and have more good choices.
