  1. If you look at the actual process in detail - you will see that it is not the cpu/core that is the bottleneck - it is the disk I/O. ffmpeg basically grabs a frame every 10 seconds, resizes it to a thumbnail ('easy' in performance terms) and then writes to a temporary file. Do that for a 2hr movie and you have just created 720 image files. The bif generator now puts all the files into one .bif file. The I/O of writing those 720 image files is 'expensive' in terms of holding up other processes - especially if you have a single physical HDD. re the GPU argument - There is little point trying to offload the 'scaling' to a GPU as what it is doing is 'easy' and you will spend more time loading it into the GPU than actually doing the work. Could somebody write a batch bif generator to do the same using multiple threads using maybe a SSD or better still do it in memory - yes they could, and have - see my initial response and again just now by @roaku - but doing so within Emby is dangerous and unpredictable as while you add maybe a new TV series to your system, you will/could kill the streaming I/O in the background.

  2. Guessing here but could they actually be merged?

  3. I mentioned it in another thread, but thought I'd put it here since this looks like a new section--just for posterity. Would like to have a bulk meta data editor function. For example, if I have 750 videos whose producing studio is the same, I want to select those videos and apply the name of the studio to those videos. Similarly, if there is a custom tag I want to apply to a subset of those movies, I want to be able to select them in bulk and apply the tag to those videos (instead of selecting them one by one).

  4. Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless

  5. The Mult-Select in the Server web app is super-useful (I'm so grateful to those that introduced me to it!). But given that the Server web app has some excellent filtering functions (eg, in my case I make use of filtering by Tags) it would be very handy to have a "Select All" functionality, so that I can filter down to the results I'm looking for and then easily add them to a Collection (or, when eventually we have Bulk Editing abilities, open a Bulk Edit view on all the Selected items). Thanks! PS - If this is something you might like to see implemented, be sure to "Like" this top/first post (as well as any subsequent posts in this thread that highlight particular aspects of what you are interested in) -- "Liking" the top/first post helps the Devs to know how much interest there is in a given Feature Request.

  6. Please click "Like this" and share it if you want to support this feature. Thank you ! Hello, There is a Kodi addon call "gdrive" from ddurdle who can read videos (original and transcoding version) directly from Google Drive. Why not build on this idea to integrate Google Drive as source directly in Emby Server ? In addition, Emby could generate automatically the STRM files from one or many Drive folders. And transcodings are already available with Drive so no need to transcode with Emby server. What do you think ? ------------- Three reasons why this feature will be useful and awesome: 1. Cloud is the future and today the cost is affordable. I have a Google Drive Unlimited for $50/month (ie $600/year) and I have unlimited space that is secured against crashes. Knowing the cost of hard drive and the cost of power consumption, its a very good deal. 2. Google Drive transcode video file. This provides different stream quality like Youtube (1080p, 720p, 480p and 360p) and the "image quality/compression ratio" is very satisfying. I can play 720p video on my poor 4 Mbits DSL. 3. You don't need to have a big server. Personally, I opted for a little dedicated server (Kimsufi 2G) for the cost and I can leave it run 24/7! Furthermore, me and my friends can watch movies from anywhere! Basics features that should be included: GOOGLE APPS OAUTH2 for activation and permission playing transcoded version (MP4 360p, 480p, 720p & 1080p) directly into Emby's app playing original file (avi, mkv, mp4) directly into Emby's app import embedded subtitles porwerful script module for multiple folder scanning and STRM generating

  7. I suggested in a totally different thread a bit ago about possibly adding Discogs as a meta fetcher... https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/79280-duplicate-music-artists-entries-how-to-get-rid-of-them/ That thread has had a few +1 reply posts. As such i figured adding it to the feature requests was the proper way to gauge interest. If you have used MP3tag you should be familiar with Discogs. Its a GREAT alternative to Musicbrainz.

  8. In other words it should match the subtitles you get if you were to just press play and start playing.

  9. I've just pushed an update that will add some video codec statistics. Since Emby supports such a large number of codecs, this list is dynamically created based on what is in your system. So some of you may get a number of 'unknown' entries. If you want a more detailed list, I've left debug logs in the code. Enable debug logging and run the task again and the log will give you and itemized list.

  11. Hi there. Emby Connect and Premiere are two unrelated topics: Connect is just a way of connecting to your server and it is tied to User(s): https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001160340 Premiere is a set of features for your server, in addition to basic ones, and is tied to your server: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001162223-emby-premiere Premiere matrix will show you what does subscription include for server and various client apps: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001173099-emby-premiere-feature-matrix So, neither of them depends on the other - you can have both Connect and Premiere, you can have only one of them or you can have none - as their application is on different areas. As per your second query, to run a server behind VPN, you need to setup a static port forwarding with your VPN provider (and not all of them provide that possibility, have no idea for ExpressVPN), read through here, maybe someone mentioned it: And/or contact your provider directly. Cheers

  12. She sees Emby on the menu bar at the bottom of the Samsung TV and selects it even though I've told her many times not to do it. I need to remove it but there's another Samsung TV in the Second Unit we're staying on my MiL's property and I would need to dig through FULL a 12' x 25' storage unit to find the box with another MiBox s in it.. Or buy another AndroidTV box.. And remove the app from the Samsung TV. All stuff I don't have time for so I just removed the MiBox s until I can get to it.

  13. Thanks for that. I don't know who's mentioned having Emby tag the original files. Having Emby modify our media is the last thing any of us should want. We just want the ability to change Emby's internal / nfo metadata for more than 1 item at a time. Add a new tag, or change the genre for all of an artist's albums at once. Add tags, people, or locations to a group of photos. As my collection grows and my interests change, the way I organize and identify my collection needs to adapt and change. Actually moving or re-tagging the original media as you've described is both rigid, and flies in the face of proper 'archiving.' The whole purpose of metadata should be so we can change and refine our organizational strategy at any time, without modifying the original files in any way.

  14. This. Emby is a personal media server. The number one job it cannot fail at is streaming media. If generating the BIF were to put a crutch on streaming it would mean low power devices would not be ideal for Emby server. To keep the "ideal" at the right spot it must not impact the streaming side of Emby. I agree that having Emby throw everything at generating BIF would not be in the best interest of Emby and users of Emby.

  16. Thanks for the reply. I think initially I set Force Http to 'off' because I was having issues with some other addons such as subtitles. I was following a suggestion in this thread: I don't have much need for those addons now so maybe I can do with out the 'Force http' setting. I was just looking for it as it was how I'd always previously had it setup. Please don't go adding it back in if it's a hassle. I'll try with out it now and see how it goes. Thanks again.

  20. Hey cayars, as I said during your remote assistance session, thanks so much for solving this. It looked like the solution was to delete the config file and start over, maybe also that HDHomerun update did something as well. Anyway your time and patience were much appreciated.

  22. I don't see this changing as it is a one time process that only affects initial/new installs. And if you are saving them with media it is a one time process so you never have to place it unless you replace the media. But if this is added then users will complain why is my Emby so slow or not working. There is zero chance of pleasing everyone. And this will create more issues then it is work on low powered devices. But to me 2-3 days to do 30+TB works for me on my PC as other usable is a factor.

  25. As I said - follow the naming conventions! Every online database looks up by episode number, not name - not least because names can vary in different regions, and translations. So you haven't yet given them a chance! There are various programs which can look up and rename the files in a manner that will suit if doing it manually is too daunting. The ones that come to my mind are FileBot and Tiny Media Manager, but I don't use any so other people may have different suggestions. Paul

  28. It's getting to the point where unless you support a client properly, it is actually more of a support liability than a 'feature' imo. In 2019 - LG and Samsung updates were pretty frequent - but since the mid-2019 - NOTHING of note has been updated 'feature' wise. In the mean-time, the Android/FireTV and Roku Apps are being developed almost daily - so the idea of a single consistent app across all platforms is frankly a bit of a pipe dream. I don't really get it tbh - as both Samsung and LG are the two biggest TV manufacturers in the world - You would have thought support for those would be a top priority as flagship products - but I guess not.

  30. My apologies if there is already a feature request for this, I searched but couldn't find anything. My experience is with the Roku and Android TV apps but it may apply to other apps as well. With the "Up Next" and "Recently Added" rows on the homescreen one almost never needs to dig down deeper to find something to watch. A view I think is missing is a random unwatched movie view which would allow more spontaneous selections when you can't decide what to watch. I am an indecisive person and when given a choice of a 1000 movies I will never decide on one, but give me a choice of 20 movies and I will find something quick. I realize this would be a personal preference having this view so if it could be made an option like how the "Show Premieres Row" currently works in the Android TV app everyone would be satisfied. Yes I am aware of the filtering options but the point is to take as much user intervention out of the process and help one pick a movie they might have not otherwise chosen.

  31. Hi, there is no way to automatically detect this, so i would just take a look at the schedule for the auto-organize scheduled task and adjust it to whatever works best for you.

  34. To gauge interest... What if you had the ability to "Forget" a series for the purposes of Next Up display. That is, it would no longer show in Next Up - unless you watched another episode. Sometimes you maybe watch a series for a while and, even though there is more of it or more is made later, maybe it isn't as good as the earlier seasons or maybe you just don't have time for it anymore. So you'd like it to quit showing up in your Next Up list so it is less cluttered and you can focus on the series you are actually watching now. If you start watching it again, the "forget" would be forgotten and it would start to show up in Next Up again.

  35. I also use metadata scrapped from Internet. But every year when Halloween & Christmas are coming, I want this feature to tag movies with Halloween or Holiday,

  36. Are you guys experiencing a problem when you try to play video on FireTV and now it's saying you need Emby Premiere or need to unlock the app? Or do you have a different problem?
