Are you serious? One of the main uses for Emby is to share a media library to multiple users. And the live transcoding adapting to each users equipment/bandwidth is maybe the main selling point of Emby. Your precious 4K HDR library is essentially worthless without transcoding and tone mapping, the day you want to watch something on the mobile while traveling etc.2 points

Long story... E4k in 4.x version used the same Artwork paths (URL) as you initial synced your lib, but not dynamically. e.g. Initial sync 192.168.X was performed in LAN. This works, unless you are using a Laptop, and Kodi is started sometimes from Wan and sometimes in Lan. To load Artwork dynamically, I piped the Artwork threw the 127.0.0.1 socket. Here I can attach the actual URL on demand. Problem is, Kodi starts loading the artwork BEFORE connection is established. That's why, I have to reload the skin again, after Emby-server connection is online.2 points

Tried to search for this feature request but couldn't find it. It would be very good to be able to sort and filter the content of collections. I have some collections with a lot of movies (1001 movies you have to see before you die, Criterion collection, etc). As of today you can sort and filter the collections themselves but you can't sort and filter the content. So if I want to find an unseen movie from my 1001 collection I will have to scroll through a lot of movies. In the collection view you also separate categories (movies, tv, ...) and it would be great to be able to choose to not separate them also.1 point

Guys, The ebook side of Emby/MediaBrowser has been long stalled or rather stagnated. I would like to offer up a couple of suggestions. Many people use calibre as an ebook/comic book tool for scraping data and general management of their collection already. This program is absolutely astonishing in its ability to pull metadata from post calibre scans, as well as draw in metadata from the file source and/or directory structure. http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/ Its a self contained .jar server/reader combination. And honestly I am very impressed by it's small footprint and wide range of abilities. The other option is COPS , which was written specifically with calibre in mind. It is open source, so making it work with emby I would think would be fairly easy. https://blog.slucas.fr/projects/calibre-opds-php-server/ Ever since the original release of MediaBrowser's bookshelf I have always wanted something that would allow me to 'read' my collection, rather than being basically nothing more than a place-set for images of books I own. I am sure that those who mainly have audiobooks are thrilled with bookshelf , but it's nothing more than an extension of the music library IMHO, not new features. We can have both right? Here I give you two suggestions free of charge.. Just because I love you, and Emby Personally I plan on running the Ubooquity Server along side of Emby from now on, just because of it's massive functionality and tiny footprint. But I sure hope that someone decides -- "yeah, ebook support should be in here too" and do something about it - rather than allow this now very very ancient issue to continue to remain an issue. And so I don't have to have 20 different ports open, some with SSL support - some not, because Emby isn't delivering the 'complete package'. (Please take some of this with humor, I know you have your hands full with improvements/bugs/suggestions/requests)1 point

I have searched but couldn't see it. I love knowing who's in what episode, program and film. I have noticed and it bugs me that it groups all the cast together in the Main Page of the program. For example as I am currently watching S01E02 of Criminal UK; Oh I know that actress, whats she been in? So I'm on episode 2, this is normally where I get phone out and check out the currently playing media, which takes me to the episode (I'm doing the screenshots on my browser for ease), this shows the information of the file etc... which is great, but couldn't we have Cast & Crew in the Episode down here aswell, so instead I have to click on the IMDB link, navigate away from Emby and check the Actor/Actree Filmography on the IMDB website. For this example I was interested in seeing what else 'Stacey' had been in, the actress "Hayley Atwell" is listed on the main Program page, it would make more logical sense to be able see this information under each episode aswell as the main program page; Personally it would also make sense to have each series/season cast under each folder aswell. I would assume this would be easy to scrape from IMDB/TVDB etc....?1 point

Would be great if you could adjust the volume using the mouse wheel in the Emby Theater client for Windows. I am a long time Emby for WMC user and normally use the remote control for volume. Recently I have been using Emby Theater on another PC without a remote and notice how cumbersome it is to click on the volume slider with the mouse pointer. I have previously got used to using the mouse wheel for volume control using Potplayer which is much simpler, faster and more precise.1 point

@tosa65 Unfortunately, you have to wipe the Kodi DB if you performed an initial sync on 5.1.7. 5.1.8 should fix it.1 point
-
Sorry, not yet, but still on the todo list. I'm very busy to fix the last issues in e4k. This has highest priority. Kodi19 is close to final, and e4k should be super stable when it's released. I promise, I come back to you.1 point

I know, but as can be seen in screenshots, it's emby theater and play method is direct play, no transcoding.1 point

Currently I only run the Emby server but eventually I want to do this for other servers I have running.1 point

Enough argumentum ad hominem.. That's a serious fallacy in my book. I'll listen (read) any argument based in facts but as soon as the personal attacks come out I tune out, no matter how valid the argument.1 point

your dnsomatic domain and hostname fields are reversed. your UDM looks ok. I think you also want to go over to cloudflare and add an A record with the name dynamic and your current WAN IP address. then create a new CNAME record with the name of your domain (whatever.com) and content of dynamic.whatever.com. thats how it used to be set up, not sure if cloudflare changed anything to make that step unnecessary. maybe try it like you have it (with the domain and hostname fixed), and if you notice it not working, try my way. edit: I think if you do it your way, the hostname has to actually point to your hostname, so if your FQDN was emby.whatever.com, you'd put whatever.com in the domain field and emby in the hostname field. if you want more than 1 hostname (ie, emby, ssh, plex, etc), i think you have to do it my way so that dynamic always updates on cloudflare, and you add your additional CNAME fields for each domain (which will all roll up to the IP address dnsomatic is feeding to the dynamic A record).1 point
-
True.. The local client is built into the UDM. I think I can figure this out.. I'll report back in a bit.1 point

just point your router to dnsomatic, and then point dnsomatic to your cloudflare, and in cloudflare make the tweak to that it points back to dnsomatic. it's not hard at all. once you set your router towards dnsomatic, just google "cloudflare dnsomatic", plenty of tutorials how to do it, but it's literally a single record added to your cloudflare dns. im in a meeting right now but if you get hung up i'll get to help later today.1 point

Out of curiosity: Does the ffmpeg in the new release have the improvements you guys need for the next steps?1 point

My Emby dev time right now is focused on wrapping up and releasing my Iconic plugin, but I could take a look in a couple of weeks. Would this be a good starting point @Luke? https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Notification.Slack And this looks like the service: https://element.io/1 point

Yes, if Emby cannot cannot provide the EPG data, then I can highly recommend epg.best. 2 things, first you need an m3u file of your current channels. Someone linked a phython script which can extract that from my hdhomerun tuner. I DO NOT code in Phython, so it toke me some hours to get that to work, and also I had to change something to make the script work. Second, I found epg.best could be better in guiding you when using it for the first time. So when importing a m3u, it's default setting was something like "import channels, delete from m3u" or similar. I just went with that default, but nothing happened. I found out had to change it to ""Get EPG data" or something like that. Just to be aware of.1 point
-
I switched to epg.best some weeks ago, and I must say I like epg.best much better than SD. And I especially like epg.best service because I do not need a server to run XML grabber stuff to get the XML feed that Emby needs. epg.best delivers that directly. And also it has EPG data for channels I was actually missing from SD.1 point

Yep. I'm all a go. I can cast thru the app directly and/or through the external player (I have to options for casting to the same TV), just fine. Thank God. (Sorry you're in such a hard spot, seriously.)1 point

When I set up my DVR in Emby in December these were the paths that I was asked to choose. Once I did so my TV shows record to their path, each in it own folder and then into season folders within those. The movies all record into their own folders with the title of the film and the year in parenthesis with the TS file, nfo file, and a poster jpg in each of those individual folders. I am using the latest Beta version of the server. What version of the server are you using? If you don't have these paths as option under the DVR section in the dashboard maybe you should switch to the latest Beta release.1 point

As long as you have the original files, you can always experiment. Yes it's time consuming as heck, but DolbyVision for home media use is literally months old, so everything is still in its infancy. There was actually a great post on the Doom9 forums similar to what you asked, as apparently Handbrake now has a 10bit encode pipeline.1 point

Just so we are clear, you can play on the older version because we were embedding a different video player, and we had it configured to blindly ignore all ssl problems. The player we're embedding now is a little more strict where it wants you to do things a little more by the book. We'll look into what flexibility we may have with that, but both of you are right in what you are saying. Yes you were able to play in the older version, but cayars is also right that what you are trying to do is far out of the norm.1 point

@softworkz Hi, no problem. Here's the output of `ffdetect-emby -hide_banner -show_program_version -loglevel trace -show_error -show_log 40 vaencdec -print_format json`: And this is `ffdetect-emby -hide_banner -show_program_version -loglevel trace -show_error vaencdec -print_format json` ("-show_log 40" removed):1 point

Custom sorting is accomplished by editing the sortName field and sorting by name. That is common throughout the system so, at such time that we allowed sorting of collection contents, that would be possible as well.1 point
-
The default of folders will be restored for the next release. thanks.1 point

Try deleting the ones with the paths. We'll change this so that you can't delete the collections library and create this situation in the first place.1 point

Speaking of the zoo, let's lighten the mood with one of my favorite BBT episodes:1 point
-
For a long time, up until decades ago, it's been quite normal that humans with certain disabilities were publicly exposed and presented - on fairs or bustles allowing to watch these in exchange for just little money. Something like "woman without legs", small-grown men, a guy that doesn't feel pain.. etc. - a bit like a zoo with humans. This had eventually been superseded and replaced by afternoon TV talk shows with the focus shifting a bit from physical to mental shortcomings. The mechanism remained unchanged, though: humans are often fascinated by abnormal or cripple individuals, no matter whether physical or emotional. Eventually, after those talk shows, came the internet - again providing plenty of ways for spectating even more human weirdness. Again - same mechanisms in place. And so - here we are now, with our zoo having a new attraction1 point

Problem is, users see something "new and shiny" and they expect the devs to just kowtow to their demands and make it happen. Much like the person who tried to demand action on DolbyVision, something that has only been possible for 6 months and most of it is hidden behind proprietary chips and software. There is a clear disconnect between the users understanding the technology and the feasibility of implementing it. I'll be blunt, the people demanding action on this have obviously not read the pages and PAGES of people complaining and bickering and finger pointing on the Plex forums or the Jellyfin forums about them not being able to get the implemented tonemapping to work properly on their POS hardware. As far as the users are concerned, it should just work, damn the technical side of it. "my 1st gen xeon Plex server should be able to tone map in software". The users just don't understand, and their ignorance of how everything works behind the curtains is a serious problem. Plex supports tone mapping 100% in Linux (hardware Intel/Nvidia and software via pure horsepower). Everything else is software only. Do you know the passmark required to tone map in software, because it takes a minimum of 17k to convert 4k HEVC to 1080p h.264. That means you need a minimum of a Ryzen 5 3600x to perform 1 transcode, and that is all your server can do before tone mapping is calculated. The other issues that everyone here is overlooking, there is no standard for tone mapping. NONE.1 point

@RDHoworthEmby hasn't been trying to force users to have multiple copies of the media, but it was the only was to do this in a reasonable manner. Emby wasn't ignoring tone mapping at all. The tools used to transcode (ffmpeg) just didn't support it so we had to wait until the added basic support, got it debugged and working with GPUs. It's only recently gotten to this point in the last couple of months. Meanwhile softworkz has been working on enhancements to the basic ffmpeg so it will work even better when used with Emby. There is a difference of "not listening" and "having your hands tied" and not being able to do something.1 point

I couldn't agree more! (and I have stated this many times) But still, people want it...1 point
-
if they had the best in Home Cinema they would not need this. 4k should never be transcoded, EVER. People should honestly have 2 separate libraries and only give access to those users who can direct play 4k content. That is my PERSONAL informed opinion.1 point

Bonjour, c'est quelque chose que nous prévoyons d'ajouter dans les futures mises à jour. Merci pour les commentaires.1 point
-
Again, why are we getting hung up on what hardware is needed? If we have the hardware, then we should be able to use it, if not, then that feature would not be available. Many people who use Emby are enthusiasts who want the best in Home Cinema, and not just cater to the lowest common denominator. Many users have used GPU acceleration for many years, and it is clear that this provides far more efficient transcoding capabilities than CPU only.1 point

I want to say thanks you all the people behind emby. We all are so used to open source software that we forget the work that's behind. I experienced today that feeling of finally having everything in place, all the foto, the videos for my kids, the series for my wife...and that just thanks to awesome people that spend their time for this software.1 point

I'd also like to see the cast categorized into guest stars and the actors that are in every episode. Most of the time I go to look at the cast, i'm checking to see who the guest stars are and what else they've been in. Makes it more difficult when the list is combined.1 point

Could you consider allowing the customization of the Latest Content fields? Specifically, I would like to know if it is possible to specify the number of items that are listed for each category of Latest Content, as well as the time frame for which those items remain in that list? For example, the ability to keep Latest Content items in the list for 30/60/90 days, and to specify that for each category, there are 10/15/20 items listed. Thank you for reading!1 point

Once the end of the of guide is reached have the scrolling continue from the beginning of the list of channels. Would be nice if scrolling up past the first item in the list brought you to the end of the list too.1 point

Thanks for the confirmation. Yeah, down is not a bad idea. It is just up that would be potentially problematic.1 point
