Absolutely we DID! we did, we did, we did. We do not deny this, and it's not a secret. We most certainly banned their use because of piracy and support of our apps. Think about this. We have apps in many different app stores that go through a lot of scrutiny. If our apps connect to not only Emby Servers where we know content types to also connecting to JellyFin servers where a plugin could add any any data it wanted we could be viewed just like Kodi or Popcorn and get banned rather quickly. This can not be allowed to happen to Emby Users! It should be obvious that if Emby apps can connect to "the wild west" it would not be a good thing for Emby. Besides that, let's be realistic. Should I (Emby support person) have to spend 20 minutes working with a user remotely using our Emby for Android TV app to only find out they aren't using our server but JellyFin? It's one thing if the problem is in the app but quite another if the server is far beyond the app in features and can't deliver the info requested and giving errors. Same question in other context. Should users on our forums need to try to support or help people not running Emby but some other forked software? That's not fare to our users! Hopefully you can see why this won't work. Emby apps are designed to work with Emby servers, not JellyFin servers. We support our apps working with our servers and WILL DO REMOTE SESSIONS to help users but it needs to be our Servers we are testing against! We also force server upgrades of our own system via apps to make sure the server doesn't get too far behind. Do you need more info or did I cover this enough? I could go on and on and on and on. "Donations" if you will. But my point is that was part of the original issue they had with Emby in the first place. They do not have a paywall and you don't get anything for the donation but still it's ironic Maybe they should give 95% of the donations to Luke since he wrote 95%+ of it. LOL.2 points

As Luke already pointed out but I want to re-iterate - this is absolutely untrue.2 points

@bonbonking that's really not true at all, and you can see for yourself by looking at the commit histories on the repositories. Let's take the server repository for example: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/graphs/contributors From some quick math, our paid staff was responsible for roughly 98% of the commits, and I am solely responsible for 95% of them alone. You'll see similar numbers in the other repositories. By the way, guess where the majority of our paid staff comes from: community members and volunteer contributors. Over the years we've rewarded and hired our community members who have shown interest, strong technical ability and initiative to get involved. So really, we are not bad people. We're just a team of software developer (and others) who are trying to earn a living.2 points

I've been dying to know if this has garnered enough interest to be worked on. I found Emby (MediaBrowser 3 at the time) and its bookshelf plugin while I was searching for something that was like Plex for comics. Plex doesn't do this (and probably never will), Kodi doesn't have what I'm looking for either, and ComicRack seems to be dead at the moment. Unfortunately the bookshelf plugin doesn't work the way I had hoped. I was dissappointed to see it only offer a download to the file to which I can open it to the program of my choosing. Even browsing through the books I only had the option of going through folder-like directories and couldn't browse by author like the people section in the other media types. I would love for it to be fully integrated into Emby where I can open and read a comic right on my phone and tablet or even my web browser as I could with my movies and tv shows. Also, I hope to god somone is working on the "Games launching in android" feature you mentioned on your up-for-grabs blog post. That would be awesome!1 point

The MKV standard was updated to properly support Dolby Vision and Plex has recently released support for it. I strongly dislike Plex (the performance is abysmal) and prefer Emby for 99% of the time, but DV support is really nice. Is there an ETA for Emby (on Android/Android TV and maybe iOS/tVOS) to support Dolby Vision in mkv? I use a Shield TV 2019 atm (and will get the new Apple TV 2020 4K when it get's released) and prefer DV to HDR10 (on my OLED LG).1 point

@LukeAn old thread I know, but any chance of having a user option to be able to see empty shows please? As you have it now, actors in shows that are hidden, don't have that show associated to them. In the new search functionality, I can't search the NCIS shows in my library, as they are currently empty. Empty shows also do not show up in the upcoming list, if it is empty. Would be nice to have the option of showing empty show folders or not please. Thanks.1 point

Thanks. My current month subscription ends in a week and then it is at least an annual membership.1 point

I will look into how to get beta version. Thank you. P.S. I had to wipe the apps data, re-login and the new options are there and it works!!! WooHoo. Guess I will be buying that annual Premium License and wasted $5 retesting Plex. haha. Thanks again!!1 point

Right OK, yes. TV series have to be in the same library in order to be grouped.1 point

That was this option. I don't have anything there chosen. Thank You very much.1 point

Since I started using Emby, I've given no thought to the fact that it created a library for DVR recordings automatically. Why would I? However, during a big rearrangement of my disk storage yesterday I decided while moving the Recordings library to a different drive that I would add separate paths within the library for movies and series, so that instead of just the default path of F:\Recordings there are now paths specified for movies and series which are F:\Recordings\Movies and F:\Recordings\Series. I did this, and moved all the existing content into the subfolders appropriately; the library then rebuilt and looked exactly as I wanted - entering the library shows me two folders - Movies and Series - and entering each in turn shows the corresponding contents. Last night's recording also went into the specified place and appeared in the library as expected. However, when I finally returned to the library list, I found that I now had three additional libraries - "Recorded Movies", "Recorded Shows", and "Recorded Shows". And yes, it creates the Recorded Shows library twice... These libraries point at the subfolders which are already part of the "Recordings" library, which breaks Emby's own rules. They are empty, presumably because the contents are already listed in the original library. So I delete them. But later Emby recreates them (including the extra duplicate), and I can't stop it. That's right - I can't prevent Emby from breaking its own rules... Perhaps Emby should have a check that prevents it making a library with a folder which is already a subfolder (or superfolder, I guess) of another previously existing library. Not only would this let me arrange recordings "my way", it would also help prevent a moderately common cause of problems for users who are unaware of the restriction. Alternatively (or additionally), perhaps it could record that it has performed the library creation it wants, to prevent it repeating the task if I delete the library in order to arrange things differently. You really should just let mpv do its job, and have a deinterlace toggle to enable mpv to detect and deinterlace without server involvement. It can do that, you just have to let it. This is what I do on my HTPCs.1 point

Betas should be fine again, and no longer say that the selected volume is missing. This bug occurs when you self-sign the package, which isn't supported anyway so it's gone until Qnap properly supports third-party signatures. And before someone throws Qnap club at us again, they have been given special permissions and do not fall in the "third party" category.1 point

Hey, you can edit metadata of the playlists you want to be only for yourself and add tag to it (for example ‘wakikrk2002’). Then edit other users’ parental control in the settings and restrict tag ‘wakikrk2000’. That’s it.1 point

Hello, thanks for the answers ... I am currently setting it up and as soon as it is stable I will create a step-by-step guide in German1 point

So now the latest releases are using milestone 80 since beginning of July. Is it possible to support HEIC then?1 point

They have to be open source since that's the license they inherited with the source code. They have no choice over the matter. It of course will work ok at the server level as it's built on an older version of Emby. But Emby has improved many things from that version such is the transcoding engine, now customized version of Exo player, etc. Jellyfin has some nice things for sure but it's no V5 Emby. Around the corner is a new Live TV that will be game changing for many Live TV users. Of course those are server features. Emby has really nice apps and clients which are in a completely different level of functionality to those from Jellyfin which falls way short in this regard. Anyone using Live TV in the US, CA or UK is most likely paying for Guide Data which is included with Emby. The lifetime license of Emby for those users actually pays for itself. Some people also feel like purchasing an Emby Premiere License is a worthwhile investment and they feel it's worth compensating developers for the work they do. Emby in turn is adding people to the project to help it's customers as well. Heck we even do remote help with people. As far as the last line I quoted. My question to you is, why are you hear then? Go do your work on Jellyfin and enjoy the Emby Fruits you got for free. Maybe a thank you?1 point

Go to Settings then Playback and change it to either Auto, or some bitrate higher than your source video.1 point

By now everyone is aware of HDR. But there are various versions of it. Here is a great article that simplifies and explains the differences. https://www.howtogeek.com/690215/hdr-formats-compared-hdr10-dolby-vision-hlg-and-technicolor/amp/ Also, the term 'fake HDR' is sometimes used. They have a great article that explains that, too. https://www.howtogeek.com/693428/what-is-fake-hdr-and-should-you-buy-hdr-blu-rays/amp/1 point

Update: Qnap has now privately acknowledged two issues to us: Unsigned apps not being able to run in latest firmware Selected installation volume missing error when building with latest QDK At this point we're waiting on them to fix this so for now you'll have to continue with the workarounds that you're currently using. If you want this to be resolved sooner rather than later, then I would suggest opening a support ticket with QNAP. I would think the more pressure they feel, the faster they'll get it taken care of.1 point
-
Ok, we're looking into it. Thanks for reporting.1 point
-
Our package developer is treating it as his highest priority right now, so hopefully we'll have a resolution soon. Part of the problem is that qnap developer documentation hasn't been fully updated yet with all of the changes, so we're trying to do this a little blind right now.1 point

Yes more options are possible in future updates. Thanks for the feedback.1 point
