Sure he does. He'd love to have an option to eliminate us loud mouths from the forums. LOL HaHa, kidding aside from a personal position I want lots of options. From a support stand point I hate options and just want the software to adjust automatically. Those of you who post often in the forums "get media" and naturally understand what option do or change. Unfortunately that's not the case for most users. Can't tell you how many times I'm helping a user remotely with an "issue" only to find they changed a setting in a client that is the cause for their issue. So "self inflicted option change". These types of APP changes are difficult to diagnose for me as I can't see the changes but have to rely on what users tell me. I'm sure you guys know this but for those who follow some topics you'll see us/me post KB articles for remote access setup and people will say they followed directions and it didn't work. I'll remote in and want to check port forwarding and the user can't login to the router (so no way they followed all directions). Par for the course. I digress, but from a support standpoint options can be an "Achilles heel" of the software. They can easily cause more problems for people then those the options help. Maybe if we had a "reset options" in each client...3 points

Hey guys! I was thinking about this feature as well and I'm running a Plex Server with my Emby server. Plex recently introduced the skip intro feature and it's detecting intros as a pre-processed task which you can set like you would set a thumbnail extraction task. I love this feature so much and would even love it more on Emby. I'm too less of a tech-guy to say how they do it, but it has to analyse the episodes somehow and then put markers where the intro starts and stops. Would love to see this on Emby as well, considering this thread is 3 years old already and has quite some good feedback3 points

So I have just installed P**X on the same Windows Server - My word what a painful experience but we won't go there - I just installed to prove a point. Zero issues playing from SMB - Up to 110Mbit/sec. 120Mbit caused it to just go back to the menu. Transcoding was turned off. The network read's were totally different to Emby's - the started at > 500 Mbit/sec for maybe a second and then a constant stream based on demand - high action scenes demanding more bandwidth. So while I'm not going to go there comparing it to Emby, I think from a technical point of view - it is Emby Server for Windows that has the issues here - it is not the network as had now been proven a few times. To the OP - I guess you have a couple of options right now - a) put Emby Server back on your NAS (using DAS, works fine) or b) Use Emby Server for Ubuntu and mount the SMB drives. Emby Server for Windows with SMB shares for high bitrate files has issues - whether the Dev's want to acknowledge this I don't know, but I don't really have any more time to spend on this right now.2 points

I'm letting you know. I need a brake, 30 days sounds good. But you get to take over for me ok? LOL Can I vote myself off the Island? Not to influence votes or anything but just to remind you I'm a terrible person, hate all users and dislike devs even more, especially those who do Roku dev work. I fully expect not to be able to login later today and can start my vacation.2 points

Can we put this to a vote also? I'm sure we can get enough support to vote him off the island.2 points

No, but it would not be out of the question to add that as an enhancement.2 points

Hopefully ATV can be made to Direct Play from source like VLC instead if being fed a stream when transcoding isn't needed.2 points

CURRENT STATUS: SSO: Not yet planned LDAP: Development COMPLETED - BETA AVAILABLE >180 direct endorsements >30 MONTHS (>2.5 years) >12,000 views PLEASE BUMP - - - - - PLEASE LIKE - - - - - PLEASE BUMP - - - - - PLEASE LIKE - - - - - PLEASE BUMP This would greatly expand Emby's usage, and possibly more enterprise level adoption, user templating, user groups, SSO, etc. There are also users who have completely abandoned Emby and ended subscriptions due to the lack of this necessary basic functionality. Note: SAML2 is also part of this request. (header auth is also acceptable, at a minimum.) Context: I am trying to use something like openfire as a Instant Messaging solution which already supports LDAP and SAML2. So this would allow the current user of emby to seamlessly use web-based instant messenger with the same username and password as Emby without the need to enter them into a form. This would also allow universal login to be shared with my home PC's, Spiceworks, Ombii, Organizr, etc. The multitude of possible flexible functionality this could add is truly incredible. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE, myself and others cannot manage a userbase with proprietary passwords for a single service (with no self-service password reset/recovery), when things that have only months of development implement it within days, easily. Status: LDAP - Development Completed - BETA AVAILABLE! Common LDAP solutions to test against:Open LDAP (Open Source) [use this] ApacheDS OpenDJ 389 Directory Server Microsoft Active Directory SSL is NOT actually needed, but Emby team insisted on it anyways: Simply offering a toggle option for auth to send plaintext or encrypted passwords would work just fine. It is ironic to claim the need to be overly security conscious of user passwords, while lagging behind on basic SSL. If SAML is implemented, a SAML request/response can just be signed by an x509 and it is just as secure as TLS using SSL. SSL does not need to be natively supported, as it is perfectly possible to run it through an SSL reverse proxy tunnel and have the same effect. SSL Feature Request: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/33983-ssl-integrationsupport/&do=findComment&comment=322526As of now username and password is encrypted client-side as security as SSL is not natively implemented. Emby team has said this impedes the adoption of both SSO and LDAP. Please see our SSL request topic; like, comment, and endorse it to show how many people would enjoy/gain from this basic security. Ways to satisfy this FR: Direct LDAP connector SAML2 connector General SSO functionality (SSO Header, etc) Allowing user header auth NGINX auth support RADIUS Authentication Other features that are inherently possible if this is implemented: Self service passwords Ability for users to invite users/guests Expiring Accounts (after duration/trigger) Unified credentials for many services Corporate level authentication security User groups Mass User management Update 1: I encourage others to work on this but I am currently seeing what I can do to develop a solution to this myself. If you have experience in this LDAP/SSO/SAML2/SSL/.NET contact myself, @@Luke, @@ebr or the Emby team to let them know, any help is greatly appreciated! By everyone! Update 2: I know there is always the question of "well how many users actually want/will use this", so I compiled a list of some of the other threads/sites where people request this (to apparently no effectiveness in motivating the team). Update 3 (18 MONTH UPDATE): This request has now hit 18 months in age, NO progress made thus far whatsoever. ( ) Update 4: This FR is now the 4th most liked post ON THE ENTIRE FORUM and the 3rd most liked FR ON THE ENTIRE FORUM (ever), the 1st most liked active FR ON THE ENTIRE FORUM and over 4000 views. Counting endorsements besides those on this thread show over 115 direct requests/endorsements for this basic functionality. Lets get this moving guys, this is getting to be a bit much. Almost 2 years waiting on this now. Source Update 5 (9/20/2017): This feature request is now the MOST DESIRED REQUEST EVER MADE TO EMBY, sadly, that has not merited any progress at all. The staff has been working on things they believe Emby users want or may want, but it is clear what people want. We can only hope now our wishes are respected instead of being told what we want and having our requests dismissed. Source Update 6 [2 year update] (10/17/2017): Two years and not a single bit of progress has been made. TWO YEARS!!! To say this is disappointing is an understatement. The entire reason I went from Plex to Emby was because of local user management. THIS IS THE ONLY REASON, so naturally I wanted to have complete control over my users, but after TWO YEARS, still nothing. Update 7 (3/6/2018): DEVELOPMENT HAS STARTED!!! Check Luke's recent comments, if you want to test it out, download the latest beta and install/configure the LDAP plugin to test and give feedback!!! Update 8 (4/6/2018): Development on the LDAP connector has completed from what I gather, not sure if this is only a beta or a primary release; SSO is still a plan for the future but has not been touched. Progress made by other users (looks to be nearly, if not fully complete): https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/pull/1885 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/pull/2139 Exploits shown by other users against Emby (emphasizing the need for a centralized authentication solution): https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/12335-unauthenticated-access-over-the-internet-to-logs-folder/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/20376-all-folders-visible-to-all-users-after-upgrade/ Related FR that could be helpful: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/46635-support-for-logging-users-in-though-url-scheme/?hl=user Any of these could be interesting to have compatibility with: http://lemonldap-ng.org/welcome/ https://github.com/Jasig/cas http://passportjs.org/ https://www.nginx.com/resources/admin-guide/restricting-access-auth-request/ LDAP/SSO/SAML Requests (~180 endorsements) [>12,000 views] > 95 endorsements on this post ~ 30 endorsementshttps://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/1146 > 35 endorsementshttps://www.bountysource.com/issues/24943821-authenticate-users-using-ldap > 14 endorsementshttps://feathub.com/tidusjar/Ombi/+122 > 4 endorsementshttps://www.reddit.com/r/emby/comments/5o44wd/creating_deleting_updating_users_with_the_api/ Interview, in article comments user said lack of LDAP STOPPED him from using Emby (Emby is actually losing customers due to the lack of this NECESSARY basic functionality):https://www.linux.com/news/software/multimedia/856128-exclusive-interview-emby-founder-luke-pulverenti Duplicate, user had no progress on first 2 posts (no one from Emby actually tracked this or even replied to him):http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/861-mb3-and-active-directory/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/867-mb3-and-active-directory/ Auth announcement, user 'Drashna' in comments requested LDAP/ADhttp://emby.media/community/index.php?/blog/1/entry-177-manage-your-home-with-emby-users/ Various similar requestshttps://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/2494 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/2493 https://forum.yunohost.org/t/integration-emby/912 http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/13081-active-directory-integration/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/11200-media-browser-3-server-ldap-active-directory/ External SQL auth request:http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/27986-emby-and-shared-mysql-database/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/23509-authenticate-users-via-external-mysql-database/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/12001-external-login-to-mysql/ #ADFS #SSO #LDAP #ActiveDirectory #MSAD #SAML #SAML2.0 #SAML1.1 #PingFederate #OKTA #LemonLDAP #JASIG #authentication #auth #TLS #SSL #Usergroup #usertemplate #header #authheader #headerauth #security #hardening #authhardening #authenticationheader #externalauth #centralauth #centralizedauth #centralizeddb #exploit #authexploit #security #loginhardening #authenticationhardening #accesscontrol #.NET #SelfService #RADIUS1 point

This is more of a "wouldnt it be cool if it did this...." It would be nice to keep the live tv stream active in a small picture in the corner of the screen and view the channel guide in full screen. For instance, I am watching a live show and want to look at what comes on next or on another channel without closing the show I am currently watching. Sent from my VS988 using Tapatalk1 point

Google play version: 3.1.22 Android: 7.0 emby: 4.4.2 Since the latest update the app starts on itself randomly. I might not be doing anything, navigating in the phone or even have some other app open (game) and suddenly the app loads up. I have tried force stopping it and clearing the cache - no change. When the app starts up it just sits on the main screen. In the past 15 min it has done it 3-4 times.1 point

To gauge interest... What if you had the ability to "Forget" a series for the purposes of Next Up display. That is, it would no longer show in Next Up - unless you watched another episode. Sometimes you maybe watch a series for a while and, even though there is more of it or more is made later, maybe it isn't as good as the earlier seasons or maybe you just don't have time for it anymore. So you'd like it to quit showing up in your Next Up list so it is less cluttered and you can focus on the series you are actually watching now. If you start watching it again, the "forget" would be forgotten and it would start to show up in Next Up again.1 point

Based on knowing that the Emby server creates an "unseen" rule via upnp, I did a reset to factory settings of my Google Wi-Fi router then re-started it, and it worked, without the need to do any port forwarding. Thank you both for your help! Good to know in the event I need to change computers.1 point

Thanks but That really does not help as you do not know what device is using the tuner ... I found a better way as the lock on the tuner is the IP of the Device using it. The Sample below checks if the IP of the EMBY Server matches the IP that is using the tuner if there is no match it will reboot the server. If there is a match it will check again in 5 minutes. if not exist "C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe" exit 1 if not exist c:\temp md c:\temp :loop C:\Windows\System32\ipconfig | find "IPv4 Address" > c:\temp\File.txt set /P ipnumber=<c:\temp\File.txt echo %ipnumber% set ipnumber=%ipnumber:~39% echo %ipnumber% del c:\temp\File.txt CD /d "%~dp0" "C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe" 104112F4 get /tuner0/lockkey >"%~dp0tunerip.txt" set /P pcname=<"%~dp0tunerip.txt" echo %pcname% if "%pcname%" EQU "%ipnumber%" goto recording "C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe" 104112F4 get /tuner1/lockkey >"%~dp0tunerip.txt" set /P pcname=<"%~dp0tunerip.txt" echo %pcname% if "%pcname%" EQU "%ipnumber%" goto recording shutdown -r -f -t 2 exit :recording CLS echo recording timeout 300 goto loop exit1 point

both are not necessary and are specific to your needs. ie, if you need any other user to have access to the files, then creating a new group called media or whatever and adding emby (and other users) to that group would be the proper way to set permissions. if not, then emby:emby is fine.1 point

Indeed - your LAN traffic is way in excess of 50Mbit/sec. I need to finish off finding out what is happening to the Windows Server (I have procmon from sysinternals running..) but I'd like to try a Unix VM running Emby on the same machine using the same NIC. The plot thickens.. The Windows SMB client is not the issue here - as standalone it can transfer 120 Mbytes/sec over a 1Gig link without issue - however, in combination with the Emby Server - the Emby 'buffer' cannot keep up with high bitrate files - and that's the part we need to find out why.1 point

10 Gb NIC is required with RDMA support. Using 10 Gb NIC without RDMA support you also get constant freezing. I suspect the problem is latency not bandwidth.1 point

I've got shares setup on my shield to access my storage systems. But I guess we would have to make sure the the "mapping" in Android matches the "mapping" on a PC so we can use the "optional UNC" field in Emby. If we do this will Exo on Shield use this NOW in our current Emby Clients? @Luke1 point

Another - Info point or two before my internet gets shut down(moving) My 2012r2 server i used during testing is 10G as is my pc middleman (win 10) - and i was getting pauses playing on the shield - so something Sooty has is different NAS uses LCAP with 4 bonded 1gb Nics - for info Also the NAS and Windows machines have Multipath i/o working so two NIC's are used for each file transfer between each MP i/o capable machine - yes you can get it to work in linux - so my backups from 2012r2 to NAS run at upto 200MB/s plus on a "1gb Nic" etc None of the above helps of course if its all down to what the emby server does Maybe its a cpu single thread issue, although my PC middleman is a 6700k so would have thought that was fast enough to deal with a simple stream of data - just an idea Anybody got an app that lets you monitor the shield to see what its doing/resources bit like netdata for linux maybe - as i supose it could be the shield is choking on the bitrate - cache falling over etc - then recovers but takes a second or two to recover - which we see as a pause?? Speculation on my part others may know more. Have fun guys - tty - in a few days You will have this sorted and Luke/Eric fully on side with a fix applied by the time i return - runs away with a manic villain laugh...... Ha Ha ha1 point

I fixed this by assigning the correct ip to the emby server. Fore some stange reason, it had changed the ip to a ip of some virtual nework card. Check your emby server dashboard. Is that the correct local ip address ? if not goto network in the emby server and bind the right ip and check if you can connect.1 point

@oneduality Yes, since Windows 10 they do... but still a long way to go... The problem with plugins in general is that they are often written by single contributors, and often do not work properly. Plugins are ok, but IMHO they need to be published by the core dev team, to work and be integrated into the main system properly. For me Emby is by far the best product available for playing my personal media. The problem I see, is that they try to expand too fast. They support far too many platforms, too early. Much more important should be to ensure a bug-free core functionality first.1 point

I disagree. A file transfer can easily dominate/saturate that link making anything else running over it that streams stutter. I've got one area in my house where my laptop is connected via 1 gb to my main switch. If I plug a 5 port switch there and feed both my Shield TV and notebook running Emby it will stutter on playback on the Shield while fetching via SMB files from my server. The file fetch from Emby saturates the link and causes latency. Now if I put in a smart switch with QOS I can avoid this and get smooth playback by limiting SMB and giving higher service to streams. It's not just the "size" of the pipe, but how it's used. <-- doesn't that sound just like a guy? LOL1 point

Being able to stop watching an active recording and resume where I left off, either later or on another device, is a key feature. The resume function on previously recorded files works great. Providing this same capability for active recordings would be great. Sports provide an easy scenario. I usually start watching 30 to 60 minutes after the start of the game so that I can skip over a lot of the dead time (commercials, time outs, etc.) and focus on the game. Over the course of a 3+ hour game, I inevitably have interruptions and often move my watching from one device to another. Today, the only way to support this is to stop/re-start recording, effectively creating a "resume" point. While effective, it's an annoying process. Enabling "resume" on playback of active recordings would make this seamless.1 point
