So that didn't go to plan at all ! On the first batch of testing (test 3) using a NAS (via 1 gig), I experienced exactly the same issues as you when viewing a 4K (65 Mbit) file ... The file will play just fine if I opt to use an External Player (VLC etc) AND setup direct file access - effectively bypassing emby server altogether. Next I wanted to know why and where the SMB > HTTP conversion was failing. Using the jellyfish test files I've used before (fixed bitrate), it appears to break at 55 Mbit/sec (h264) and 50 Mbit/sec (hevc). A the point of the 'failure/stall' - neither the network, remote disk I/O, or CPU are anywhere near their limits. All I can say is the 'conversion' from SMB to HTTP is bottlenecking anything beyond 50 Mbit/sec - this may be the TCP stack on Windows having to read and write at the same time (but is not the network itself..), or it may be the Emby code has an issue/limitation. I'm going to try test 2 - where the storage is on a different VLAN to the clients to see if that makes any difference, but as they use the same Windows TCP stack - I don;t think it will. As I have the test all planned, I'm also going to proceed with test 1 - which is the DAS - as last evening, this was still having zero issues with 5 high bandwidth HTTP streams @ 270 Mbit/sec (total) according to the network interface...

@chudak Knowing how the linux filesystem and permissions work are the most basic stuff and an absolute requirement if you want to persist using distros like arch or gentoo. I suggest you have a look at: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/File_permissions_and_attributes If that's way over your head, which is completely fine, there are more beginner friendly distros out there, like Ubuntu. The emby package for Ubuntu does not use any of the advanced systemd hardening features and should work out of the box.

As I'm transitioning from Volumio and Plex to Emby to centralize my usage to one app, the one thing I'm missing the most is gapless playback. This is particulary annoying when listening to albums like "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. I'm experiencing a buffer of about 1 second in between songs, which really ruins the immersion. Would be awesome if this would be implemented in both the Chromecast, and web player.

So I have a couple of playlist downloaded but if I do disconnect and go to downloads the playlist doesn’t show up. It just downloads the songs, but it would be nice if we could just have the playlist ready to be played and not have to go through all the albums to the songs just to add them up next

I like listening to my music through my roku/emby setup. However, I don't need to know how the artist is while listening. I was wondering if there is some way to set up a virtualization like on windows media player? I can wait and my roku will go to it's screen saver, but I would like to make a choice. Or even display the lyrics on screen, all of my music files have the lyrics embedded.

i already did the map drive test - it has no effect - same result as unc only way to stop the pausing is to have the media local to the server

This of course is personal opinion but to me the Android TV client has the best UI and functionality using a remote. There is an option in the client if I remember correctly for direct play of media using UNC.

Kind of exactly what I would expect. LATENCY and buffering is killing you not overall bandwidth available. If you have two NICs in the server try binding one to the NAS network and the other for Emby to send to clients and see what happens. (Spin off a new network for a client). Typically these need to be 2 physical NICs not virtual or done through network virtual methods like a VLAN. The latency of sending packets over each NIC will decrease and you'll be able to stream those larger jellyfin files I bet.

I'm going to repeat the '10 client' test tomorrow from the NAS/SMB storage (without the 4K Client) - if it still all holds up - then we can categorically say the issue is to do with any single stream with a bitrate of 50 Mbit/sec or higher - less than this, or multiples of less than this - are not a problem via SMB..

Original Poster. Was the server stopped when you tried again though? If you restart the NAS after you stopped Emby server then it will just restart after you restart the NAS. 1. Stop Emby server from Dashboard 2. Check Pack Center to ensure Emby isn't running 3. Manually install 4. Restart NAS

Yes, I know why it's not working and it's based on the fact that emby4kodi manipulates Kodi Playlist (for no good reasons). I removed playlist manipulators from the player code (were the issue was located). If I leave it in, the autoplay next episode will play episodes two times before continue next. So actually there is no fix, cause the problem is the code design. Sooner or later I'll remove all those playlist manipulators from the code, also rewrite the stream initialization procedures. ... and this takes time, but also fixes a lot of other issues

I haven't read every post, but have you guys considered that the movie is probably VBR? The bitrate value in the Android TV stats for nerds is pretty useless. If it's giving a general number of 75 Mb/s, it could be spiking up close to 90 Mb/s in scenes with lots of detail. Here's an example:

I use mains wiring adaptors to take my ethernet to places that my router's wifi doesn't reach and to which I've not (yet) taken a cat6 cable. Not a new bug. Its been around for ages. You have to let the library scan complete successfully before adding or deleteing any libraries, if not you'll get multiple libraries. When you set up the DVR libraries, set up ONE at a time and click only ONCE!!! If no response do not click again, close the browser, reopen and WAIT for the library scan to COMPLETE. It might take a while to even start. Set up the scond path and allow it to scan again and complete again. For each path you create it can create 3 libraries. The Main, The New TVSHows and The new TV Movies paths, There a 3 seperate threads running in the background, ALL OF THEM trying to create the libraries, thats why you can get 3 for each !!! Sometimes a total of up to 9.... There should be a test to see if it exists, and skip it in the seperate threads, but there doesn't appear to be. If it has still created multiples then remove the others and ALLOW the scan to complete FULLY. It will fix itself then. It just takes a while. @Luke Tagged you Luke just in case you were not aware that every build up to 4.6.0.1 beta still does this
