  3. I am an avid user of Emby. In fact, I run Plex, Jellyfin and Emby on my setup and I have premium version of both Plex and Emby. I do not consider myself a fan of either services. I use Plex for online viewing, Emby for offline viewing (on LAN), and Jellyfin to test out various things like jellyfin-mpv-shim, syncplay and gelli. I installed the latest stable version today and I discovered a plethora of changes and fixes, among them the fix about seeing server key as an user fix is my favorite. But that got me thinking, after about 5 months, we get a new version which when it comes down to it, contains only 2 new features , subtitle offset and playback speed control. It really made me sad. I like Emby for the way the devs communicate with us, for the quick fix that ensue on reporting major problems. But where is the big feature? I may be wrong, but did we get a single big feature on 2020? Jellyfin has syncplay (I use it extensively to study lectures with friends), plex has skip intro and skip commercial on livetv. What is Emby's big feature for 2020? Subtitle offset? The aforementioned products have them too. Where is the feature roadmap? Where is the voting option on requested features? I know it's a small team but Luke has repeatedly said that they have more members that do not interact here. So we don't know for sure that Emby team is smaller than Jellyfin team. Jellyfin team is consistently pumping out new feature (their next big feature is HDR > SDR tonemapping while transcoding), whereas Emby is just lagging behind. I would have loved to see the following features on Emby : Skip Intro Skip Commercial on livetv recording Lyrics in music Movie extra like Behind the scene the way Plex does it A proper official app to monitor and interact with server for the admins like Plex Dash. Failing that , something like Tautulli. Embystat does not work as well as Tautulli and the functionality is really limited IMO. Audiobook scrapping Granular control over camera upload (what to upload, which resolution to upload, which location to upload etc) Maybe a location where people can share custom CSS and vote on it. I am willing to accept the hate that might follow for me being a karen or whatever. But I do want this project to thrive, and I was as respectful as I possibly could have been. If that's still harsh, I don't know what else to say except I did not intend to be so. But anyway, I want Emby to thrive, I want to recommend Emby to my friends just like I now recommend them jellyfin if they dont use Tizen, WebOS or Roku (Roku app is improving on Jellyfin though). Let's hear the other user's opinion on what I wrote. Have a nice day.

  4. If Emby for Android can handle it then that's a good sign. That means the TV app will ultimately get the same improvement.

  11. Here are my library thumbs. Edit: GDrive link to current icon set. More may be added in the future. These are all black and white. Feel free to modify with colors as you so desire. I activate a "Christmas" library during the christmas season, for obvious reasons. I just apply as "Primary" and "Thumb" and they've worked great for me. Blend in nicely with the flat icon style used elsewhere within Emby. And they're attractive across all my devices (Android, iPhone, webUI, and AndroidTV) computerprep library thumbs.zip

  12. hey what I'm really missing is support for audiobooks. Simply saving the resume point for those mp3s would be absolutely enough, no need to fetch metadata etc.

  13. The OS is giving that information to Emby. But I know my installation of Emby on host machine is not pulling my Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter (but testing I do see this using the Default Virtual Switch as it is using internal config). But if needed within your specific setup you can try to bind Emby to the correct network via Dashboard-Networks, Local IP address Local IP address: Optional. Override the local IP address that Emby Server will present to Emby apps. If left blank, the server will automatically detect the local IP address. Doing some more testing but I changed my virtual switch to external instead of interal and get proper lan ip. https://serverfault.com/questions/895739/ip-to-access-hyper-v-host-on-default-switch
    1 point
  14. Yes you can in server network settings, but if you do that you have to be careful to keep that up to date if the machine ip changes Where does this virtual adapter come from? If I can simulate it then maybe we can do our own prioritization to prefer another instead.

  18. Ultimately we are going to be in the official Synology package center, not our own separate one. We are actively working on that, and hopefully it will be there soon. Until that happens you'll have to sideload the install package.

  21. Yeah, you are right, once it is one time configured for your needs, you don't need to get into this menu. For new users it's not that bad, but if you are a old one and don't read allways the changelogs, than sometimes it's a trouble to search. But nowadays that's normal in every Software: --> I hate Microsoft for changing after every Feature Upgrade Options from the Control Panel into the new Settings Menu. I feel that I getting an old men with my 30 years

  22. I sent logs from ATV at 1342 EDT user Rick. Clicked resume on an episode of Strike which should have resumed at about 20:52, but instead it started at the beginning. Same thing happens if I skip, choose a chapter, etc it just restarts the episode at the beginning. Remuxing episode fixes the problem However, if I switch over to ET on the Shield I can resume, skip, rewind, and start from a particular chapter, etc with no issues using original file

  23. Thanks. It got resolved by itself. It seems it was a problem with just one episode and the problem was on tvdb site.

  24. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. Restarted system twice, service just keeps saying update available restart server to install. UPDATE: I stopped the server (not restart), rebooted the machine, restarted the server and the update was installed.

  26. i mentioned a few months ago that Jellyfin had implemented far more new functionality in 2020 than emby has. received pelters for that although its 100% true. the functionality plex has implemented this year with no response from emby should embarrass the dev team, but won't

  27. I would add to the list, HLS streaming using fMP4 container, to be able to direct stream HEVC content to Apple TV and avoid the problems that appear (gitching) when some HEVC content needs to be remuxed.

  28. Yep - you are about spot on last beta round was mainly fixing things broken earlier for a previous beta - although the release announcement would give you a different story yes small things get fixed - but sevral bugs that have been reported and "ignored" have gone un resolved into the latest release - things already coming home to roost from the posts over the last couple of days To be fair there have been more features added than just the two you highlight - but they are in the average user wont notice category - http2 as an example which is causing issues still and was pulled once before but now you cant turn it off - sigh I to like Emby - generally its good - functions well - snappy etc But the development in 2020 has become a crawl - last year updates/additions were coming out every couple of days - now its weeks for anything i care about pops up and thats been mostly minor changes - some just taking something away that was useful - no explanation - no warning - virtually no communication from the devs As for a roadmap - been asked numerous times - but the answer is "its secret" as they dont want their competition knowing what they are up to........... so we get treated to Mushroom Management - its so counter productive but they cant see that Next big thing is likely to be a major revamp of LiveTV - but dont hold your breath on that either as its going at a snail's pace currently from the bits i can see - its a big job apparently which i suspect might have overwhelmed them and if holding up most of everything else. So in the end i will join you on the firing line when people say its not that bad etc and thats not true - even though i have been a little more on point. Puts on Tin Hat!

  29. I use STRM files a lot and just update them in place. I run on Windows and have my libraries use Real Time Monitoring (library option) and don't even have to run a library scan as Emby sees changed or new files and does it thing.
    1 point
  30. It is really hard to say. But unidentified show would mean Emby is not identifying as a Series, I would bet if you added season folder you would not have a issue. But adding year to series name makes it foolproof also.
    1 point
  31. Hi, you should be able to just run a regular library scan. No need to shut down.

  32. Here is a link to the developers page https://developer.samsung.com/smarttv/develop/specifications/media-specifications/2020-tv-video-specifications.html It should also be in a chart inside your users manual, probably toward the end. Looking at the chart anything that isn't specified will need to be converted by either yourself, or the server during playback. A lot of movies have both a HD and a compatible audio track (usually AC3), then before clicking play you just select the compatible track so it Direct Plays

  33. I know it was added in 4.5.0.21 and removed from the dashboard after that version. But I know this is all beyond me but would look in \system\dashboard-ui\modules\navdrawer.

  35. Thanks for advice, but it the issue persists. OK, so I tried using mkvtoolnix and it worked, the newly-saved file can be played in Emby on Android TV and fast forwarded without any problem. I know that I might be asking too much, but it still seems that the original file could be played on other platform, for example, on Kodi, without any problem + able to fast forward. For certain reasons, I MUST keep the original files. If I was to create new files just to be played on Emby, it will take me for another 2TB on my NAS which is too much. Is it possible that something be fixed on the client-side so that Emby for Android TV no longer experience fast forwarding problem with certain files?

  36. This is the new norm, at least until we're listed in the Synology app store and then you can use that. That's something we are simultaneously working on. But the sideload spk's will always be available for those who don't want to wait for release to go through the Synology review process, as well as those who test the beta builds.

  37. Yep, just updated and it works just fine and grouped movies like it has before.

  38. Emby has the same type of stream sharing feature but for an m3u tuner it currently is only utilized depending on the format of the streams within the m3u. In the near future this will be revamped and the streams will always be shared.

  39. I confirm. There is a new bug. The server does not upgrade automatically like before. It stays in an infinite download/restart loop.

  40. I'll get that fixed up!

  41. Glad that will work for you! I don't know what type of media you're using Emby for or what type of environment you have setup at the office but Emby does have an LDAP plugin. So with a bit of setup you could tie Emby into your Active Directory or other LDAP directories. That would allow each user to login with their company credentials. So if someone was let go they would have no access to the Emby server assuming change their status in your directory. That could open up additional functionality like reports and statistics plugins so you could see who is and isn't using Emby in your company. I know some companies use Emby for sales videos and also HR videos. So you would then have control over the library the user can access and could run reports to see who has viewed X HR video, etc... Just I thought I wanted to pass on to you in case you weren't aware of the LDAP plugin or would it could do for you.

  42. Can you actually give examples of what it is that you do not like about the appearance of Emby? Otherwise there's no way to improve on it. Personally I think it looks great on my ShieldTV's in the AndroidTV app.

  43. hey computerprep I found your icons recently and I've been using them in my library ever since. Any chance you could do 1 for trailers in black and white?
    1 point
  44. I'm not sure I'll ever venture into all the genre images. There is potentially an unlimited number of genres out there, so to make distinguishably different icons for each may not be feasible. Anyone else is free to make look-a-likes to these, by all means. I'll just stick to those are likely separated libraries. Here's a link to a public GDrive folder with black/white versions of all my current icons. So feel free to apply tints or recolor the background however you want for your own servers. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1oUT2T_5-cbFpkZeDV0JkOZe3lMGrK-2S
