Guys, The ebook side of Emby/MediaBrowser has been long stalled or rather stagnated. I would like to offer up a couple of suggestions. Many people use calibre as an ebook/comic book tool for scraping data and general management of their collection already. This program is absolutely astonishing in its ability to pull metadata from post calibre scans, as well as draw in metadata from the file source and/or directory structure. http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/ Its a self contained .jar server/reader combination. And honestly I am very impressed by it's small footprint and wide range of abilities. The other option is COPS , which was written specifically with calibre in mind. It is open source, so making it work with emby I would think would be fairly easy. https://blog.slucas.fr/projects/calibre-opds-php-server/ Ever since the original release of MediaBrowser's bookshelf I have always wanted something that would allow me to 'read' my collection, rather than being basically nothing more than a place-set for images of books I own. I am sure that those who mainly have audiobooks are thrilled with bookshelf , but it's nothing more than an extension of the music library IMHO, not new features. We can have both right? Here I give you two suggestions free of charge.. Just because I love you, and Emby Personally I plan on running the Ubooquity Server along side of Emby from now on, just because of it's massive functionality and tiny footprint. But I sure hope that someone decides -- "yeah, ebook support should be in here too" and do something about it - rather than allow this now very very ancient issue to continue to remain an issue. And so I don't have to have 20 different ports open, some with SSL support - some not, because Emby isn't delivering the 'complete package'. (Please take some of this with humor, I know you have your hands full with improvements/bugs/suggestions/requests)1 point

Many people have upgraded DSM7.0, but Emby is no longer available, so here's how to downgrade from DSM7.0 to DSM6.2.3. 1. Get putty ready 2. DSM7.0 opens Telnet and SSH 3. Use puTTY to connect to DSM7, enter the user password, and enter the following command code: vi /etc.defaults/VERSION 4.Overwrite VERSION content: majorversion="6" minorversion="2" productversion="6.2.3" buildphase="GM" buildnumber="25426" smallfixnumber="0" builddate="2020/07/01" buildtime="06:24:39" 5.Reboot the machine 6.Use the Synology Assistant to find the machine 7.Install DSM 6.2.3(At this point, the upgrade will prompt an error, don't worry, because at this point, Telnet port will be opened, and only after this step, can port 23 be opened, repeat point 3, but the user name: root password is: 101-0101) 8.Just install 6.2.3 again. It is recommended not to keep the configuration (the file will not be lost), and DSM7 has been successfully degraded to DSM6.2.31 point

Please read this post first. I was wondering if it would be possible to add something that would allow you to skip the intro to shows automatically while binge watching. When watching Netflix it does this for some shows, and im not sure if thats a feature of Netflix itself or a Chrome extension i use called "Flix Assist" but it would be a nice feature to have within Emby as well. and possibly even create a custom timed skip for specific shows1 point

Hello. Would be great to be able to adjust subitiles delay in Emby Theatre or Web client like we can in VLC with "H" and "J" shortcuts (up and down). Thanks !1 point

Is there a way to have the option for larger artwork on the Apple TV? For example, when you're not using the CoverArt plugin, it shows 7 movies across the screen. When using the CoverArt plugin in goes to 6, but the images don't change in size so it's leaving a lot of dead space. I know this is just a visual thing, but it'd be nice to have consistency or have the control to make "small, medium, large" movie/tv show posters and then we can control how it looks. I love Emby and how it works (I'm coming from being a heavy Plex user) but these little things make a difference from a visual perspective and user experience.1 point

Yes, much greater support and capability. Much greater security, too. I would imagine there are dozens of security holes in Win 7, at this point. More easily exploited. Better networking....the list goes on.1 point

Yes I know all about it but keep in mind that Sparklight has data caps that will drive my internet bill past $100 so TVE is not a viable option.1 point

And for the record, this has nothing to do with emby itself. Other distros don't use systemd's bells and whistles because they lag behind in terms of version and features. If you want to persist using Arch, you should be able to search the wiki and deal with these things by yourself. A lot of our services are using similar hardening these days.1 point

Emby like any software has requirements and standards - Emby is strick - yes - but it means that it works when these are met if you conform to how emby wants it - then you will have very few if any issues and if you have it working in emby the other apps you may use will also work Your choice - i dont have issues with emby music it actually works well once you get past the "errors" in your file structure and/or the metadata of the files. And if there is a genuine bug - it usually gets addressed relatively quickly.1 point

Emby does not use the embedded images in songs for the album artist - that comes from MBz or Audiodb or fanart depending on your settings for the music library. Emby uses ffmpeg/ffprobe to get tags and metadata - so do the songs that dont show an image have something in common - can you see the image referenced in an output from ffprobe? Could the files be corrupt - just because they play does not mean the files are OK as some players are very tolerant of issues? What type are they? it might also be the type of tags etc ID3v2.3/2.4? APE? - makes a difference If you open the album with these file in Mp3Tag does it show the image for each track? MP3Tag will also tell you what type of tags they are - although not in the screenshot above Some things to try and check1 point

Hopefully it wont have to much impact.. TMDB is a good alternative for TV metadata. Personally I think TVDb has made a bad decision here, especially being a community based website totally full of copyrighted material!! But time will tell..1 point

What a disingenuous comment to make. I've been using Linux for thirteen years, back when Dapper Drake was the Ubuntu LTS of choice. I've been using Arch for the past four years. This need to add custom parameters to a systemd service file instead of using the existing Linux file permissions is not properly documented, not properly hinted at in the application, and only serves to frustrate your users. That's akin to selling a car, and not telling the buyer there's a handbrake override under the hood that keeps the handbrake on even when you've released the handbrake in the car.1 point

You know I think emby right now says "go figure out permissions on your own" and this is NOT a good way for users IMHO !1 point

I disagree - all of this goes back to the fact that the future that Luke has described whereby all database file management is hinged on built-in file metadata and not dependent on the results of some online third-party source results for what Emby uses as truth is why it doesn't work correctly. In my opinion online scrapers are good for filling in missing data but I wouldn't want to tie the functionality of my database management software to their results. Again, I do use the published music naming rules/suggestions that you quoted to organize my music files. But I can't and don't trust Musicbrainz and/or AudioDB to auto-fill my metadata because sometimes they are flat out wrong and many other times I just don't want to use the information that they have (even if it is right). I am quite meticulous about filling in my own metadata (including imagery) for the files that I have. Even if it is wrong...that is how I want my data to be presented. I don't want, nor will I stand for Musicbrainz, AudioDB or for that matter Emby even telling me how I want my data presented. Again back in the old days when MediaBrowser was an add-in for WMC this was how the program worked. I got used to it and I liked it. I even understand and agree that the future that Luke describes is better. But since we're not there yet, I'm not going to be held hostage to "that's just how it is" when I know for a fact in the past it has been better. Again, I'm not asking for the permanent final solution right now, just a toggle switch work-around (similar to the legacy view toggle that we used to have in Emby for WMC) where I can be more manual and hands on at the file/folder level than so greatly dependent on "automatic" things that I don't control. Besides, what good is an "automatic thing that does it for you" if every time you look at the results you are disappointed and know that is not what you want? I have years and years of good captured imagery and data for all of my music artist. Why not let me use it? I am active in another thread on-going right now where I have the problem of the artist's name contains the word "Sample" and because of that his files don't even show up in Emby (even according to the music naming rules that you quoted). Now that, in and of itself is a case of the database management software inadvertently inducing entropy but the issue is the same...a piece of software doing something automatically that I have no easy override control over. The work around is that I have to rename the files to something other than the artist's actual name so that they are recognized then go back and do a manual intervention to make them appear correctly. And of course because of that Musicbrainz and AudioDB doesn't know "who tha hell" that is. So since it is greatly manual anyway. I may as well not depend on automatic scraping and "convenience plugins" anyway. If we turn off scrapers we understand that we're taking on the task of manual metadata management. But at the same time we'd like some assistance from the standpoint that for all of the data and file organization and capture that we put into it that we would be allowed to use it (easily) in the manner that we'd like to. Most here would agree that we once had that with this same product. We also know that the developers had (and always have) our best interests at heart when they changed the system to be more automatic tool oriented but because that orientation has not yet been fully implemented we are caught in this quasi zone that is somewhat "damned if you do - damned if you don't". I still feel strongly that a simple toggle switch would help. </Rant off> - sorry - Ed1 point

@Happy2Play we keep talking past each other. We users keep asking how are we supposed to achieve the desired effect that we want in the absence of automatic online scrapers? You the developers (you personally may or may not be a developer) keep telling us that the online scapers will automatically capture and fulfill the info and imagery that we want. Luke has told us that better management is coming in the future but that doesn't help those of us who are in a pinch today. Especially after we a had a perfectly good working system with the same product in the past. You do understand why the situation is frustrating to us right? Is there not some compromised, easily implementable solution that can be applied in the interim while waiting on the future wholistic solution to materialize? There are myriad reasons why many of us can not (and in my case will not) use online scrapers. We're in a situation where that didn't matter in the past if we were willing to maintain the metadata ourselves. But we're at a point now where self maintenance of the metadata is counter productive and almost detrimental to the way that the system works and it always leads to more physical effort, the more we try to contine to maintain. I suggested a few posts back that a simple check by the system to see if we are using scrapers might be the solution. If we are using scrapers then proceed with the new (now accepted) implementation. If not using scrapers revert back to a legacy use of what ever imagery and/or nfo file structure is contained in the folder for the metadata population. It doesn't have to be permanent. Just something to get us by until the future that Luke speaks of is fully implemented. Again my 2cents1 point

I think it’s a great idea and another area where the web app exposes similar options that the tvOS app doesn’t have yet. We’ll get it on our backlog for consideration in a future release.1 point

Maybe app goes straight to emby connect because she doesn't have any local Emby server. She can tap on "Skip" to manual config.1 point

Thanks for posting those images. That is pretty much what they are supposed to look like. You find these to small and hard to read? It's subjective, so it's ok to say they are too small! What Luke mentioned (adjustable font size) might be the perfect answer.1 point

I sorted it, thanks. It was a port issue. So I could there via browser because it was redirecting to the correct port when I didn't specify it, but in the apps, I was specifying the port, so it would reject my connection. Edit: I actually did find 2 bugs though. 1. When manually entering a server, if you hit ok and realize you typed it in wrong and then open up the dialog again, you can't move the cursor around and select any characters. Same with the port dialog. You have to hit back on the manual server screen then go back to it. Luckily, it saves what you already had, so it's not such a big deal. 2. You can't leave the port blank. If you erase the port either using backspace or the delete button and hit ok, it goes back to whatever was in the port before.1 point

The Emby interface(s) should support subtitle shifting by now. It is such an important feature for a video player. It was requested over 4 years ago and its absence makes the viewing experience so much worse for a lot of people. I've had so many occasions where I've tried all the available subs from multiple sources and none of them quite match up. Being able to just pick one and quickly shift it by quarter or half-second increments while the video is playing would be so useful.1 point

We have a team of developers, and we keep most of them isolated from the forum to ensure as much of their time is spent on development as possible.1 point

This thread is the very reason why I previously advocated that the Feature Requests needed to be tracked and prioritized into a true feature list. It's just good engineering practice. (1) Make a total list of requests; (2) prioritize based on immediate need vs nice to haves; (3) keep the list running based on what is currently being worked vs what is still in the upcoming stage; (4) make the list visible to all on where each request item is in the development cycle so that all can see and then they don't have to keep asking these questions (they can readily see what has already been requested) and you might cut down on some duplicate requests; (5) check off accomplishments as you go so that all can compare what has been requested vs what has been implemented. (6) major fixes and problems with current capabilities get priority interrupt over current development and future nice to haves. In my world its called the IMS & IMP (integrated master schedule, integrated master plan) but at its heart is just a simple prioritized "to do" list that can be checked off when things are "done". Otherwise you're just running an ad-hoc railroad and no one knows what time the trains get to any of the stations. It probably cuts down on having to give a lot of canned responses to "yes it's planned for the future". They can be directed to the list and see where it is in the future and probably stop bugging you about when. Just a suggestion. I myself have resigned to not worrying any more about when things are coming since the things I'm more concerned about seem to be a good distance into the future. But to give yourselves some well deserved peace at night (meaning sleep) as developers it might help to give folks a notional plan just to let them know where they stand in the pecking order. For me personally, the things that Emby can't currently deliver, I am having to use other platforms to augment. When and until Emby get's them I'll continue that way. I'll certainly be glad when Emby gets them but I can't deny myself using them knowing that they exist waiting on Emby to implement. Again I'm certainly pulling for you guys because I like the direction that you're going but for my personal use full functionality is not quite there yet. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work. We're all pulling for you. Thank you1 point

I think the UI is mostly perfect. The Settings page is perfectly laid out and easy to navigate. When viewing a category I don't think you can make it simpler and easier to navigate and it looks clean. Where I do think the UI could improve is the Home screen. Something about it just doesn't feel right. Maybe a more dynamic user experience to make it feel more personal to them. So allowing the user to select different layout templates that "re-arrange" the Home screen in a way they would prefer (Almost like Kodi's Themes). Although I know something like this would be a HUGE change that will take a very very long time to achieve. Two other things I wanted to mention is that I have noticed that: - In Firefox under security, if you check "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed", you will be frustrated to hell. It resets every single users theme back to black and even it you change it, it will reset when you close the browser. So at the moment, you cannot clear cookies/site data at all if hosting an Emby server if you care about your themes. - I've been following the thread on the Actor View function as I am also starting to get interest in this. What I have noticed is that when I click on a movie or TV show, not all the actors load properly, some stay blank. I either then have to click refresh metadata (replace all images) to fix it, or I must go under edit images and then on the primary image (which shows the image) click delete, it doesn't remove the image it keeps it there, and when you go back and refresh the page, the image then shows. So to find all these "broken link?" actors, I have to go into every single movie and TV episode to try and find these actors, which can be painfully long. So if an actor screen does not happen, at least have a button in the settings even just to re-scan and fix actor paths.1 point

On the bright side Plex adding a feature is usually the signal for Emby to start working on it.1 point

Emby has only had catalog ability for books, there hasn't been any reader functionality that I can remember.1 point

From my understanding, The bookshelf plugin was end of lifed when the bookshelf was added into Emby. I have asked this questions a few times in the past and the bookshelf features are on the list of this that are coming but are not a high priority. Currently with the bookshelf, you can add your files (E-books or Comics) and Emby will show them but you are not able to read or View them via the app or browser it will give the ability to download the file so you can use another app to view the media. Also it has no way to read local metadata or scrape for current metadata. This is the one feature I feel is missing that would make Emby feel fully for a media server.1 point
