We're pleased to announce our Emby Theater app is now available in the Mac App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/emby/id992180193?ls=1&mt=8 The app works very well as a desktop app for your Mac as well as an HTPC connected to your TV. Enjoy these screens below and check it out in the app store ! View the full article3 points

It would be great to be able to configure channel groups in LiveTV, which can be selected in the guide view (maybe as tabs) so that we can more quickly navigate to preferred channels using the d-pad. Perhaps start with Favorites by default, but be able to add custom groups (similar to collections) which we can add channels to (Network, Premium, Basic Cable, Kids, News etc.).2 points

Hi ebr, Just wanted to say thanks for the latest Android TV release - sneaking in a fantastic addition for me personally and that is the ability to show the cast/crew/character details on the screen while the movie is still playing ! I've lost count on the number of times I've come across a character on screen and then could not put a name to that face ! Now I can do it without stopping playback and can continue watching without that nagging me in the back of my head - haha. Thanks !2 points

Excellent, really helpful, then I'm okay with my premiere. Thanks Happy and Ebr2 points

I really don't see a problem with developers getting paid for their work. Especially when it's a very low cost.2 points

Ya, I need a new pick 'em up truck too. Maybe I should yonder on down to the closest Ford dealership and ask them real nicely to give me and my wife a brand new shiney pick 'em truck for free too. Then they could tell all their employees they are all working for free too because they ain't makin no mo money. Po kids just have to starve to def becausin their papa make no mo money. By golly wouldn't dat be the bees knees. Make Ford real competitive with Chevy too. They would get rid of a bunch of dem pick 'em up trucks though if they did that fo sure.2 points

Hi boycotEmby, No tin foil hat conspiracy going on. It has always been the intention to be a paid app for viewing, just like it says on the different stores and Emby website. This is the way it was previously, then something happened that gave some people extended free use, but that was never the intention as it was always meant to require a low cost purchase or be used with an Emby server with a Premiere license just as all our website information has always stated. It was nothing more than a small bug that gave some users extended access, nothing more, nothing less. You basically got an extended free trial beyond the normal 2 weeks which hopefully you got value from. The app is still the same as it was always designed to be with a small one time cost for playback if not used with an Emby Premiere Server which can unlocked all server features as well as all app platforms. We know our users value what they get from our servers, apps and vast support systems as we work very hard as a team 24/7 to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction that is rarely found these days online. You're more than welcome to disagree with this and you're more than welcome to say so, but we simply ask you to watch your language on our site as we try to keep our site family friendly. If you feel the need to move on to a different platform, we wish you the very best, we really do! Life's to short to get worked up over an app that only costs a couple of bucks after you know how good it is. All the best!2 points

Ok, the prototype is working! I'm relatively awful at coding and have never done frontend at all, so I'm sure plenty of things could be done better, but it works. It's meant to be run by an emby server owner, as it requires a server api key. It essentially reads the room leader's location, jumps room members to 10-ish seconds ahead of the room leader, and finally unpauses on queue. I tested it with 4 web clients and the android client all following my Chromecast within a couple seconds at once (total of 6 sessions). Clients may join any existing room, or create a new room. If a room does not have a leader when a client joins, it automatically becomes the leader. This can be overridden at any time. Only the client's own sessions are visible. If any client falls out of sync/halts playback, it resyncs immediately. You must log out of Emby Sync, or "leave room" to stop syncing. Sessions offline for more than 10 minutes will automatically stop syncing. To force a resync, rewind a bit on the out of sync follower. Emby clients only update the server with status info every second or so, so sync is only possible within a couple seconds in either direction. (Close enough for watching with friends online for sure!) CHROMECAST CANNOT ACT AS FOLLOWER FOR NOW, however, it can lead. You can also set the device casting to the chromecast to follow, as a workaround. You must use Incognito tabs if you want to test multiple players in the same browser. Running more than one player in the same browser in normal mode has unpredictable results, since the clients in the same browser share session id (same reason the dashboard is unreliable in this state). To try it out: Easiest is to just fire up the container and point your browser at https://127.0.0.1:5000 and log in using your Emby Connect username. (The Emby password is not stored, it is used against the emby API for auth only) Sorry, no local only emby accounts or emby email as logins right now. Only your clients which have been active within the last five minutes will be visible, if you don't see any clients to select, make sure the client is open, logged in, and recently interacted with. docker run --name emby-sync -e EMBY_SERVER='<emby_url>' -e SECRET_KEY='<emby_server_api_key>' -p 5000:5000 lastelement21/emby-sync:latest I've set it up in Docker Hub here: https://hub.docker.com/repository/docker/lastelement21/emby-sync It's on Github here: https://github.com/cameronurnes/emby-sync Todo: Local user support, unpause when room leader unpauses instead of waiting/resyncing, test more clients, Chromecast as follower, adjust session cleanup task, try out using session info from api for unpause during sync instead of timers, consider using stored user access keys instead of API key2 points

My request is to be able to chose to add items to the home screen. Specifically in my case, I am thinking of playlists and collections. Here's some reasons I'd like to see this: The home screen is the first piece of the user interface a person will see when they pull up Emby. I often places movies in bulk into my media library. This sometimes means people never see the new movie I've made available. Happens a lot, actually. While all movies are searchable or can be found by sorting, I believe the interface would benefit from having the customization option. I have created a "Justin Recommends" collection and would LOVE to be able to put that on the home screen. By keeping this optional, no one is forced to use it. If you don't have a use-case, then it's just a feature. If you look at things like Netflix, many movies and shows get "featured" and by doing that, a lot of people end up watching that wouldn't otherwise (imagine if The Tiger King was just another buried documentary you had to hunt for, no one would have heard of it). I appreciate your time. If you've considered this before and decided against for reasons other than difficulty implementing the feature, I'd ask you to reconsider. I believe that being able to customize our servers helps us personalize and tailor them to our audience and our needs, and that helps promote a feeling of ownership. I also truly believe that this small change could lead to some powerful results. In my case, I know that it would be of huge benefit to accomplishing what I would like to do with my Emby server. Thank you.1 point

a user should also be able to set the start and end time of a recording. example: if the first hour of a movie is missed and a re-airing is scheduled, a user can set emby to only record the first hour. disk space will not be wasted, no wasted drive activity,etc.1 point

A couple of my channels are often missing guide data, also live sporting events have channels that are added to the lineup without any guide data. I think it would be useful to select a channel name, and schedule a block of time for it to record. That way, even channels with missing or no guide data can be recorded when the user knows the content is there.1 point

Hi, I had a beelink mini, where I used to play my media using Emby for Android TV and worked perfectly fine, however this week i purchased a new box the A95x Max plus, however when I open Emby for Android TV, after I select server and login with my account, it goes to home page with a spinner and then the app crashes, any ideas about this issue?1 point

A simple workaround if you want immediate relief though would be to remove the key from your server for just long enough to bring up the Fire app and then purchase the unlock...1 point

Unlock = one time fee for that account on x platform so Apple, Amazon Store and Play Store are all different platforms if you pay the unlock fee on one of those platforms as long as your logged into the same account you can use the unlock app feature on as many devices as you want but if you had another account on an apple device for example you would have to pay the unlock fee for the apple platform but then unlimited unlock app feature on your apple devices aslong as they are all logged into the same apple account1 point

If you split them they should stay split. It is resolved for the next release of the server. Thanks.1 point

Not true at all. We have many free to use apps ourselves and that doesn't hurt our paid apps. Does a $20K new car hurt sales of Lamborghini or Ferrari? Of course not. There is always demand for a well priced product that delivers on features and use. Here we're talking about a product that costs roughly the same amount as a Starbucks coffee. One is gone in 15 minutes and the other lasts a lifetime. It's been fun, but it's your decision what you want to do. All the best to you.1 point

Hi. Happy is correct. Nothing has changed with Premiere here. Please let us know if you still have questions. Thanks.1 point

If you have Emby Premiere all clients/apps up to your device limit will be covered up to that device limit. The standard license device limit is 25 device. If you don't have Premiere then most device client/apps require unlock. I say most as it does not apply to all as you can see in the matrix.1 point

Hi, I don't think we need a remote session anymore. I found the thing what caused the trouble. We use zerotier on our devices to access some services I don't want to expose in our home network when being not at home. The difference was, that after reinstallation or update via playstore, all traffic got routed through zerotier. Before reinstallation, the traffic went direct via local LAN. Since the zerotier network is not configured as local interface, emby decided to answer with external URL. Since external URL is not resolvable internally, streaming got stuck. Solution reinstall while having zerotier disabled. I expect this to be some kind of android thing and not related to the emby app.1 point

I guess my data and ease of recovery are more important to me than disk space or the cost of drives. I do not like the idea of waiting for a long recovery process if I have a drive failure and I do not like the idea of not being able to read any file on my backup without any "special" software and I do not trust any system, like parity disks, where I do not have immediate access to any file on any drive in my backup I also do not trust "cloud" storage. As I said before I run DrivePool and have duplication turned on for my primary live system. I have a second set of drives that are also pooled )but do not have duplication) and I run a good backup software that does not encrypt the drive or files in any way. (I actually have two sets of those backup drives) I keep one live and run incremental backups nightly. The other set is kept in a fireproof safe. I rotate the two backups about monthly. So if I have a major failure, like a fire or lightening strike the destroys everything in my media center the worst case is that I loose about one months worth of stuff that was new in that month. If I have a failure that also destroys the drives in my fireproof safe then my problems are MUCH greater than just a little media. I used to store one set of backups off site in a safety deposit box but I decided that was just too much trouble for what small extra protection it gave, Hard drives get cheaper all the time and the value of my time keeps going up (Partially because it just does like everything else and a larger part because my health prevents large efforts to be expended.) My values are different from others but the actual operation of my system is simple and, should I have a major failure it would take little effort to get back into operation. I should also say that in a normal failure (one drive goes bad) my viewing is never interrupted and I just have to get a new drive to replace the busted one and add the new drive to the pool. Everyone has different ways of attacking the "backup" problem but, to me, within reason, I think cost of drives should be one of the last things considered. It is said that "Time is money" but I believe "My time is much more valuable than money."1 point

I've tested again and here are my conclusions: - If track is AC3 5.1 and it's not remuxed, works as expected, multichannel audio is sended to AVR, AVR shows multichannel and rear speakers are working - If track is remuxed because its unsupported (EAC3, DTS...), multichannel audio is sended to AVR (remuxed DTS to AC3), AVR shows multichannel but rear speaker does not sound So I guess there is a problem remuxing audio, here is a remux log. I see audio is remuxed to AAC instead of AC3. I thought the audio was converted to AC3. It has always been like this? No: Apple TV has never officially supported 5.1 AAC only Dolby Digital 5.1. So DTS should be remuxed to AC3. I have not encountered the problem before because most of my DTS items have an alternate AC3 track. But some do not. ffmpeg-remux-772a1518-91be-4997-a3ef-e4779f49a479_1.txt1 point

Instead of keeping the mirror I think I'd rather have 2 drives for SnapRAID. That would protect all your drives and it would take a loss of 3 drives before you lose anything. Secret to DrivePool and SnapRAID use IMHO is to turn off all the fancy features in DrivePool and just let it do the combining but nothing else. That way once a file is written it doesn't move. But yes, if you felt better have both a mirror and parity that would be the way to do.1 point

We have a team of developers, and we keep most of them isolated from the forum to ensure as much of their time is spent on development as possible.1 point

And I get fed up with people thinking the Emby UI is perfect. There are plenty of posts describing what can be improved in the UI. The UI is really good, but there are some improvements that can be made. Better consistency, option for left nav to get to libraries, more granular flexibility with what is shown on the home page, and cleaner themes/colors. We're not going to agree on this point, but IMHO the Plex UI is slightly better than Emby's. The reason I prefer Emby though is because the functionality is much, MUCH better. And, the Emby devs actually talk to us. Emby stomps Plex on those 2 points. And no, I am NOT asking for Emby to change to an identical UI as Plex. Plex got it right for their app, but Emby is it's own brand and should definitely stay that way. Some minor UI improvements however would make it much better.1 point
-
As soon as they "promise" something and there is a hiccup everyone is in an uproar saying they don't come through. I would agree though a list of popular feature requests in one place with polls for each would be great. There doesn't need to be about info from the emby team on what's being done. But it's a way for the user to have a single place where we can show our interest in requests instead of digging through a bunch of threads. And it's an easy way for the emby team to see what people are asking for with a quick glance. Win win.1 point
-
@EZEdI whole heartedly agree. I REALLY wish they would at least tell us what's planned for the next 6 months. I too am pulling for Emby, but there are some big gaps that I have to use Plex for. Wish I didn't have to but I have no choice. Now that we have an improved forum, maybe at a bare minimum we could get real voting added. Liking the first post doesn't work very well and isn't well known as a voting method. Make it obvious and allow us to sort by most votes so we have an idea (and devs have a better idea) of what users really want. Overall, it's getting there. Just wish I knew what was around the corner.1 point

This thread is the very reason why I previously advocated that the Feature Requests needed to be tracked and prioritized into a true feature list. It's just good engineering practice. (1) Make a total list of requests; (2) prioritize based on immediate need vs nice to haves; (3) keep the list running based on what is currently being worked vs what is still in the upcoming stage; (4) make the list visible to all on where each request item is in the development cycle so that all can see and then they don't have to keep asking these questions (they can readily see what has already been requested) and you might cut down on some duplicate requests; (5) check off accomplishments as you go so that all can compare what has been requested vs what has been implemented. (6) major fixes and problems with current capabilities get priority interrupt over current development and future nice to haves. In my world its called the IMS & IMP (integrated master schedule, integrated master plan) but at its heart is just a simple prioritized "to do" list that can be checked off when things are "done". Otherwise you're just running an ad-hoc railroad and no one knows what time the trains get to any of the stations. It probably cuts down on having to give a lot of canned responses to "yes it's planned for the future". They can be directed to the list and see where it is in the future and probably stop bugging you about when. Just a suggestion. I myself have resigned to not worrying any more about when things are coming since the things I'm more concerned about seem to be a good distance into the future. But to give yourselves some well deserved peace at night (meaning sleep) as developers it might help to give folks a notional plan just to let them know where they stand in the pecking order. For me personally, the things that Emby can't currently deliver, I am having to use other platforms to augment. When and until Emby get's them I'll continue that way. I'll certainly be glad when Emby gets them but I can't deny myself using them knowing that they exist waiting on Emby to implement. Again I'm certainly pulling for you guys because I like the direction that you're going but for my personal use full functionality is not quite there yet. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work. We're all pulling for you. Thank you1 point
