This post contains status info on the 4 Kodi add-ons that support Emby playback in Kodi. Kodi Media Source Info There are two main ways for Kodi to display media items: From its internal database using native c/c++ (Syncing) As a list of ListItems generated by an add-on in Python querying an external server (Dynamic) There are advantages and disadvantages with both of there when dealing with external sources. From the internal DB (Syncing) Pros Uses the native Kodi internal display mechanisums Fast access and display, as fast as it is ever going to get All local data from the local DB Other Kodi add-ons can use the data form the DB Cons Can be problematic to sync data to and from external sources Keeping data in sync, data can get out of sync Large data changes or constantly changing data on the external source will cause lots of sync triggers Getting syncing correct is not trivial As a list of ListItems generated by an add-on (Dynamic) Pros No DB sync task is needed Data is loaded from external source when it is needed (like a web page) Data will always be the latest from the external source Changes on the external source show up immediately on next request Cons Add-on (Python) data processing is not as fast or local DB and c++ code External server query speed becomes part of the delay in displaying items Other add-ons can not access items Add-ons use different approaches: EmbyCon :- uses only dynamic add-on generated views Emby for Kodi :- uses a combination of DB sync and dynamic Emby Next Gen :- uses a combination of DB sync and dynamic Kodi MediaImport :- uses only syncing Add-On status: EmbyCon Status : Maintained by community members (TeamB) Kodi 18 : Stable Kodi 19 : Stable Source : https://github.com/faush01/plugin.video.embycon Emby for Kodi Status : Not supported, end of life Kodi 18 : Stable Kodi 19 : Not Supported Source : https://github.com/MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby Emby Next Gen Status : Maintained by Team Emby (quickmic) Kodi 18, 19 : Not Supported Kodi 20, 21 : Stable and Beta Source : https://github.com/MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby/tree/next-gen-dev-python3 Kodi MediaImport Status : Maintained by Kodi team and Emby community (Montellese, LongMan) Kodi 18: Not Supported Kodi 19: Beta, under active development from Kodi team member Source : https://github.com/Montellese/mediaimporter.emby2 points

Does a lyrics plugin exist for Emby? Something to show the lyrics of a song while being played. It doesnt show in the Plugins catalog, so I assume one doesn't exist?1 point

Here are my library thumbs. Edit: GDrive link to current icon set. More may be added in the future. These are all black and white. Feel free to modify with colors as you so desire. I activate a "Christmas" library during the christmas season, for obvious reasons. I just apply as "Primary" and "Thumb" and they've worked great for me. Blend in nicely with the flat icon style used elsewhere within Emby. And they're attractive across all my devices (Android, iPhone, webUI, and AndroidTV) computerprep library thumbs.zip1 point

I suggested in a totally different thread a bit ago about possibly adding Discogs as a meta fetcher... https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/79280-duplicate-music-artists-entries-how-to-get-rid-of-them/ That thread has had a few +1 reply posts. As such i figured adding it to the feature requests was the proper way to gauge interest. If you have used MP3tag you should be familiar with Discogs. Its a GREAT alternative to Musicbrainz.1 point

Would love to see the option to add the Locast service as a tuner device. Would really add value to Emby. On my Nvidia Shield I can use Fitzy to view Locast and to integrate that into a single guide with Youtube TV and other streaming providers and integrate them into a single ui/guide/dvr. The problem is that if you want to dvr with Fitzy you have to subscribe to their service for $200 a tear. When you install Fitzy it is promoting Locast and directing you to go signup so I assume they have some sort of partnership and it would be great if there was a partnership and integration with Emby as well.1 point

I use multiple IPTV providers in emby. Currently emby groups them all together into one massive, hard to navigate guide. Is there a way I can split up Live TV into multiple groups? Separate, nameable Live TV groups for each m3u link I provide?1 point

IS there anyway we could see a realtime dashboard similar to Plex where when things get updated, you dont need to refresh the website? Maybe some kind of Ajax? Also in the Dashboard is there anyway of showing number of users like a badge so we know how many users are using Emby along with what they are watching etc. Right now it is a laborious process of going to activity to check.1 point

Cayars, you won't be disappointed. I bought this program many years ago because it is the only editor that lets me do so much so fast. For me the Multiple File Tag Editor, the ability to get tags from filenames, and the ability to rename the files....all at one time in an existing folder (which is usually an album for me) is extremely handy. Plus, you can set your own custom masks here for how to name file and visa versa.....very handy. You can add album art to the whole album from the multi tag editor and then with one click make it the folder jpg also.....so many nice little features. You can also change the toolbars buy adding or deleting functions to suit your style of editing. It will edit just about any music tag from FLAC to mP3 and most in between. Considering my large music library it is easily one of my favorite and most used programs.....and has been for almost 2 decades1 point

Hi, i'd love that search engine look for tags in complement with the filenames. For example i'd like to tag all my family "ski" videos so when i search for the work "ski" they are listed. Or is there an alternative to do that with the actual features ? Regards1 point

Thanks for your input. Waiting for my friend to test this at home. I"m a bit sceptical about this working since the external link I now see Iin the dashboard is malformed. It's https://my.domain.org/emby::443. I'll report back on how this turns out.1 point

Duh, guess i'll have to go with premiere option. Thanks everyone! I guess whole production chain takes a neat % of what end users pay, so i'd go with premiere option.1 point

I despise those buttons. I would much prefer they just be colored, remappable buttons to whatever apps you want. It's the same on the Roku remote. The only app I use out of the four options is Netflix, and I use Emby far more. It would be nice to be able to map one of those buttons to Emby instead of having a worthless Vudu or Sling button that will never be touched.1 point

Perhaps Plex updates more often because Plex is more buggy than Emby. Actually, since I use the Emby beta server, I find that the updates are plenty often enough for my tastes. On average Emby updates about every 7-10 days. There have been longer gaps but that is about normal for my usage. Then again Plex really does have a larger number and frequency of bugs that creep through development and even through their betas. The problem is that Plex does not really listen to reports from their beta testers or anyone else for that matter. Plex believes that they can do no wrong whereas Emby at least admits to being mostly human and, sometimes but rarely, making mistakes.1 point

I don't know for a fact but I would imagine any large streaming service is delivering their content already frame-rate matched to the target device - exactly to avoid issues like this.1 point

Isn't this the same as here? https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/48198-audio-pass-through-not-working-for-eac3/&tab=comments#comment-458641 https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/54592-eac3dts-hd-passthrough-difference-between-emby-desktop-and-store-versions/&tab=comments#comment-5288741 point

As I mentioned previously Apple has fast scroll support (you’ll see dots on the right hand side) but at this point the Emby Server APIs don’t align with what Apple requires. We certainly haven’t forgotten about the request and hope to include it in a future release.1 point

Sorry all clients by default are set to Auto. So you have to adjust the clients to appropriate quality. I personally tell them to set the client to max and throttle them via the servers global or user "Internet streaming bitrate limit (Mbps):"1 point

We would need specific examples with folder structure. Also what embedded tags the tracks already contain. If no embedded tags, then the specific naming scheme.1 point

You could install Sonarr and import your TV shows. It would then show what is missing. No.1 point

We'll be hiring someone to help ensure Kodi 19 compatibility when it releases, so nothing to worry about there.1 point

What system is the server on? It would appear the system is not fast enough to transcode the media. elapsed=00:06:46.87 frame= 8441 fps= 21 q=-1.0 Lsize= 437692kB time=00:05:52.47 bitrate=10172.6kbits/s throttle=off speed=0.866x TranscodeReasons=VideoProfileNotSupported1 point
