Emby Music: A few metadata errors I can't figure out.

So I was able to load about 99% of my music without any issue.  It's all perfectly sorted into Artist and Album folders.  However, a few aren't importing correctly, but I can't find an error in the metadata.

1) First is "Sigur Ros - ()".  This one I'm almost certain is due to the album title.  Is there a way add this as an acceptable title?

1402937539_ScreenShot2021-07-03at1_38_24AM.thumb.png.c0047495255bafb781bf502970c49f69.png

660705048_ScreenShot2021-07-03at1_40_37AM.thumb.png.c9ad58c4c042efa36f82451cd914de67.png

160896581_ScreenShot2021-07-03at1_50_23AM.png.dd4e9c69f65387a9f229af4c3e4cbfa6.png

I've also attached two songs from the album in case anyone has an idea what the issue might be.

2) Next up is "Gene Simmons - The Vault".  This is an 11 disc collection, however only disc 4 shows up as it's own complete album.

1342746848_ScreenShot2021-07-03at1_38_49AM.png.7d55aebb3563843882af97eb2a5d9309.png

And it's the only one that shows up under his name.  Even though songs from all the other albums are listed randomly on his page:

1910434314_ScreenShot2021-07-03at1_38_57AM.thumb.png.92d4fa755ac546c462afd95b4d346ee6.png

Here's all the songs separated into their own folders.  And I have the metadata for all of them as Artist: Gene Simmons, Album Artist: Gene Simmons.  So I can't figure out what's causing this one:

1125413062_ScreenShot2021-07-03at1_54_22AM.png.b9493de9f3b44565609bbe07c71812ff.png

I've attached a Song from Disc 4 and a song from Disc 1.

3) Lastly,  it appears that if an artist name has a "w/" in it, it cuts everything off after the slash.  Is this a known thing?  Can it be added as an acceptable way to name artists or should it be avoided?

An example of "Tom Waits w/ Keith Richards":

1540350518_ScreenShot2021-07-03at1_44_17AM.png.e9fdee590235e5ad0677ba7768ad88eb.png

and "Iggy Pop w/ A Hawk and a Hacksaw":

1262267951_ScreenShot2021-07-03at2_00_01AM.png.53a73a8cdf9ed065c8cbbd5cde8fe719.png

And here are both of those songs under the album page:

804461781_ScreenShot2021-07-03at2_00_32AM.png.f9275ed800f54c4ed649503c4280161b.png

You can see Emby converted "w/" to W as the last name.

Thanks!

I would change your SImmons so the Album name is "The Value" and drop the disk part.  Then in the Discnuber field change it to a number such as 1 or 4.

For the () album I would suggest looking this up on MusicBrainz and using the ID number and embedding this in the tracks.

That should fix those issue.

Let us know how you make out.

It attached the correct musicbrainz ids during scanning:

For Simmons, I use the same [Disc] suffix for many albums and have no issues with it:

For Simmons, it's exactly what cayars said. If you want it to be one single album in Emby, then all tracks need to be tagged with the same Album name and AlbumArtist name.

For the () album, yes that could be an issue that we might need to look into.

I don't want it to be 1 album.  I want all 11 albums separately.  But for some reason only disc 4 is popping up, not the others.

Also what about the artist name format?  Can "w/" be added as acceptable, or should I just switch those to "with"?

Got it. So if you want separate albums, then they need to have unique album names in their embedded tags.

And then on top of that, the embedded musicbrainz album id's for the tracks need to either be unique per album, or empty. They just can't all be tagged with the same values.

Each album does currently have a unique name "The Vault [Disc x]".  musicbrainz lists all 15 cds under 1 heading:

https://musicbrainz.org/release/deb61d6f-421c-47d5-b78e-dd772932158e

Also, I tried clearing all the musicbrainz ids with picard, but once I scanned them back in, they were just re added.

This is showing 1 album "The Vault" with 15 discs which is why I suggested doing it the way I mentioned so it matches the meta-data provider.

I wouldn't necessarily think of it as an override. The albumartist, album name and musicbrainz album id are all used to determine album uniqueness.

The issue I see is Emby pulls both tracks as different mbzalbumids so they appear as two different albums do to different ids.  Tested tracks as is.

Tagging with same id corrects the issue.

Every single track lists the same thing in the metadata:2039569043_ScreenShot2021-10-04at9_25_43PM.png.bf9b9a5ebe10330e06ee161bb16b8c9d.png

Not sure then as I applied the metadata to the tracks and there were all grouped into one album.  Or should I say I allowed mp3tag to identify the album and selected one (since there are 12 versions).

image.thumb.png.99b11f6f4287fde14d2f87e133172a15.png

But yes it is a different id then yours.

do you have a link to that version?  It's a different album id than mine, but maybe that's the problem.  I'll change all the tracks to that one.

This is the version I used.

Release “( )” by Sigur Rós - MusicBrainz

But you have 12 to choose from.

Release group “( )” by Sigur Rós - MusicBrainz

but will test here shortly your id but wouldn't expect different results. @Bigmack3000still grouped using "4b374b09-2e39-47a3-9819-8a0eae21db66".

It's weird. That album doesn't even have a nfo file pop up:

Even though all the others do:

Yes I have seen issues like this and believe it has been report, but this special character folder is a special case also as it writes to metadata instead of folder.

@Lukeis it the characters that cause the error.  All I did was select edit metadata on album and hit save. (Same in 4.7)

Thanks!

I know there's a thread for this one, but I can't find it.  One artist I have is "Akron/Family & Angels of Light".  Emby keeps separating them into "Akron" and "Family & Angels of Light".  Even if I manually change it, it stays the same.  There's a list somewhere to exempt certain band names with punctuation, right?

*Nevermind. Found it.

I updated to 4.6.7, but i'm still getting this problem.  If I'm reading the update notes correctly, it's because you fixed it for "()" but the album name is "( )".  There is a space in the middle.

Not sure what issue you may be having but have no issue with that album.

May have to test on a clean install.

yea, I do not get it at all.  I removed the album from my library. scanned the whole music folder. then readded the album. scanned again. Every single song has the exact same musicbrainz info:

515870740_ScreenShot2021-12-10at9_55_00PM.png.a6824e2ebc674a48d2a823cced8c8b8c.png

And yet it still does this:

623321189_ScreenShot2021-12-10at9_55_17PM.thumb.png.7de468264fe498d66d13143073c82d88.png

But that's why I mentioned in the update notes Luke fixed it for "()" not "( )".  I can't fathom what else it would be.  It's so bizarre.  No other album does this.

Something else does not look right as your image shows Album and Year, no Artist.  Where is that image from?

The two test tracks I got from above I have this on each track.

image.png.d108610d7c7a07c3163b2acfd0cf1865.png

But can say Album shows the same as you posted.

I may have to test other variables.
