Passthrough coming to Xbox, is Emby support planned?

Hi there,

It's been interesting to see the rumours firm up around passthrough getting added to the latest Xbox updates. Currently available on their public beta / Insiders scheme, and Plex have announced early support. Just wondering if it's on the roadmap plan for Emby Theater on Xbox?

I'll keep my fingers crossed as would love to use my Xbox as the workaround to my Atmos / DTS issues on LG CX TV.

@bobster5It's already available to everyone now. All Plex users can try it and it seems to work best with receivers. Sound bars seem to have a little more trouble.

Thanks @mbarylski, I gave it a try on Series X. Once the free Dolby app was installed I was able to set the default HDMI Audio to Bitstream out, and Bitstream format to Atmos. This then worked through to light up Atmos on the Sonos Arc, which has been tricky up to now as it's connected to an LG CX where the TV apps (including Emby) can't output uncompressed Atmos. So a step on the path to fixing my LG Atmos problems with an Xbox, rather than attaching a Shield!

Thanks @Luke, will look out for betas to test as would be great to get that working in my LG CX / Atmos / Arc setup!

What's the word on this? This is an important feature for me. I'm a long-time Emby Premium user but if Plex can do it and Emby can't, my Emby Premium might be turning back into a Plex Pass.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress.

For anyone else wondering about this feature in Plex vs. Emby, I did try it out with Plex. For a 1080p BD rip with a DTS-HD MA track (about 38Mbit on average), Plex stuttered constantly, so I wouldn't consider that a viable solution for anyone (in addition to the other reasons why I stopped using Plex years ago - I'd forgotten how bad it got with all the extra cruft they've added).

I finally just bit the bullet and bought a Shield TV and everything on it just works (same rip, everything direct plays and passes through in Emby, just as it should).

Of course I'd still love to see this working properly on the Xbox. It really just seems silly that hardware as powerful as an XSX would have passthrough and stuttering problems doing something like this (more a comment on the Xbox than Emby).
