Ceten 27
20 hours ago, rbjtech said: So I had a play today - and in summary, I can't appear to re-create the problem. I used a different file (but from the same scene-DVSUX) - so that may be the issue but I successfully - 1) Played back the original file on the LG Client using the LG Internal Speakers no issues - DV and Atmos triggered and played fine. NO SUBS - this forces a transcode. (subs were 'timed text - tx3g Codec ID in mediaInfo) 2) Demuxed the mp4 using mp4demuxer - into .265 and .ec3 - subs were saved with .DAT (?) 3) Remuxed the video and audio components above into a new .mp4 using mp4muxer - set DV profile as 5 (same as original) - no subs. 4) This new file played back just fine as well - triggering DV and Atmos. So - you can try doing the demux/remux to see if that fixes the issue (but you'll lose subs as I couldn't find a way to embed these - external .srt subs didn't appear to work either ) If you can upload the original file to dropbox or something (or pm me the magnet link) then I'm happy to try with that, but its looking like the file in it's original mux may not be compatible with the Emby wrapper of the LG Client ... Thanks for looking into it. I've watched numerous releases from the same group without issues like Yellowjackets, Foundation, Acapulco, The King's Man, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and probably a few other movies in mp4 with DV and atmos from this or a different group. I can't see any clear difference between the files that work and those that don't. After playing a bit with mp4 demuxer and remuxer tools I managed to remux the Falcon and the Winter Soldier file I originally had issues with and thought that was just a one off, but then I got it with a different release of the same episode and other movies and series as well. I'll PM you some magnet links for files that had issues as they're quite big for Dropbox.

rbjtech 4265
So the issue appears to be poorly muxed files. I've managed to re-create the issue myself using the same files as the OP, and they are all 24fps - not 23.976 as they should be. A remux using mp4muxer fails on them, while other files from the same source (but 23.976) re-mux ok. In summary, I think the source files are 'non-standard' in some way - thus the LG Client is having audio timing issues on them. Interestingly, the Android player via a Shield has no such issues. @SamES - I'm not sure if there is much that can be done here - other than perhaps a framerate Audio/Video mismatch in the Emby streaming pipeline on the LG Client ? - as when played on a USB stick, there are no such issues (according the OP, I have not tested this).

I think you're onto something here. I checked the media info for some more mp4 files and all those with issues are indeed 24fps, all the ones without are 23.976. I just looked it up and apparently some streaming services like Disney+ which are the source for big part of these files with audio distortion now release files with 24fps: https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1629438832 . The Witcher also seems to be 24fps: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250993105?page=2 . So I guess the framerate for the files is correct but there are issues with playback in the LG client?

Yep - 24fps is a 'valid' framerate - but I'm wondering if there is some sort of mismatch going on in the Emby LG Client - as per your observations and my testing - It's not immediately obvious that there is a problem until you get 2-3 mins in - THEN you get the audio breakup issue. I believe it's the same if you jump to a chapter - Audio is ok again (as it re-sync's the AV) but then again after 2-3 mins you get the audio breakup. So I'm thinking the AV are not keeping up with each other or the LG Client is timing it (or just the Audio) as 23.976 when infact its 24 fps..
SamES 890
So do you think these are files that are actually 23.976 fps but are being reported as 24 fps or are the actually 24 fps?

I doubt there is much we can do. We can't do much aside from give it a url for playback. Alternative is to try and detect and transcode, but that has a whole lot of other issues, so it doesn't fix anything. How quick/easy is it to fix these? The fact that mp4muxer also fails suggests this is more than just a cosmetic issue.

They should be valid 24fps files, as Disney+ uses 24fps, not 23.976 And they work perfectly fine in Emby Android TV and via USB on the LG (no Emby). So I think there may be an issue with the combination of Emby > HTTP > LG Client with 24fps - as the OP has said there are no issues with 23.976fps files with the same 4K HEVC DV profile 5 and EAC3 Atmos Audio tracks. rbjtech 4265
Hi @SamES - on the Emby Client, can you confirm if it is actually using the LG playback engine as opposed to Exo for example ? If yes, then what are the differences between streaming the data in via HTTP vs loading it from local storage (USB) ? Is it possible that during the 'reconstruction' of the http stream for the LG player, it is not doing this correctly ? If this done from an existing LG Library/API ? if yes, then maybe the issue is actually with LG to fix - and there is nothing that Emby can do about this at this time. @Ceten the other alternative is to a) use a different client or b) maybe try to use a difference media source (but I suspect you'll get the same issue)

Ceten 27
I did some tests with more of these files and when playing from USB there were no issues. Is there a way to play the files directly from the Synology share instead of using the http stream to test if this makes a difference?

On the Android Shield yes (but that doesn't have an issue playing them anyway - but to note, my test WAS actually via SMB Direct (called 'File' mode), it was not via HTTP), however, on the LG App there is no way to do this. The Dev's will need to answer why the same file plays ok with the same 'player' via a direct USB (non Emby) - I find that odd too and that is what I was trying to explain above.. I can't really say why this would be the case. It's possible that the internal player has some capabilities that are not exposed to apps.
Ceten 27
So conclusion is this is an edge case which can't be solved and will give more issues in the future as more 24fps content becomes available? I guess I'll be better of just buying an Nvidia Shield. @rbjtech, it's been a while since I looked into it, can you tell me if the shield now has reliable refresh rate switching with the Emby app before I purchase one? Hi - I have used the Shield Pro (2019) as the primary player (with refresh rate switching) for my LG TV for the last couple of years with zero issues - All 23.976 and 24 fps HDR, DV, MKV & MP4 content has played just fine. For full disclosure, I use a Shield Pro > Denon AVR, I don't use the TV speakers - so the difference is you will be passing the Audio(+ Video) from the Shield to the TV, but I see no reason why this should cause you any issues.

Thanks! Guess I'll be ordering a Shield Pro then, that will solve the support for TrueHD and PGS subs as well. I'd love to have a dedicated surround set again but our current home has no place to put a center speaker so tv audio will have to do for now.
