"Recently: Unwatched" list - bug, or I just don't get it

Hi All,

I'm a long-time user of MB and thrilled to see how it's evolved into a client-server solution.

The behaviour of the "Recently: Unwatched" list on the home screen seems a little buggy, but it's possible/likely I just don't understand it.  Here is a specific example of what is happening:

Season 3 of the show "Homeland" lives in \\server\tv\Homeland\Season 3, and contains ep1 and ep2 so far.

I watched ep1 on 9/29, and if I drill down into that episode in MB3, Supremacy has a little tag at the bottom left that says "Watched on 9/29/2013".  I have not watched ep2 yet, and there is no tag if I go into that episode.

But, when I start up MB3, the Home Screen shows "Recently: Unwatched" and lists "Homeland (2 Items)"  If I click on that, it takes me to "Season 3", then into the supposedly unwatched items, and shows both ep1 and ep2.  Even though MB3 seems to know I already watched ep1.

I think previous releases of MB would not have shown ep1 in this list...?

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks!

Technical details if you're still reading :)

I have a fulltime server PC running MB3 Server on Windows 2008, sharing all media through UNCs.  Then a living room HTPC (Win7x64) running the MB3 client and MPC-HC for playback.  I use the Supremacy theme, though I have verified that this behaviour happens with the stock theme as well.

Wow, that was a lot of words.  Here's a set of pictures that hopefully will clear up my question.

Picture 1 - In the Season 3 folder, ep 1 and ep 2 are both shown as unwatched which isn't correct.  this is also how the home screen ends up, showing 2 unwatched episodes.

Picture 2 - If you drill into ep1 it shows a "watched on" date (bottom left) which is correct.

Picture 3 - ep2 does not show a "watched on" date which is also correct.

Not sure what's going on.

Thanks!

The first screen shows that both episodes are unwatched (the closed eye icon).

Items in MB3 are not considered watched until you play them past the max resume pct value you set in the server.

I find that MBC doesn't actually mark items as watched until I exit and then reenter MBC.  I remember seeing some posts about this on the old forum as well.

I'm not aware of any such bug.  What player are you using and what exact version of MBC?

Hey thanks for the reply ebr.  Your description was my understanding of how it works.  My issue is that I have actually watched episode 1, all the way to the credits.  My max resume on the server is set to 80.  the system does seem to know I have watched it, as shown in Picture 2 above.  However it is still showing on the Unwatched list no matter what.

The system doesn't know you've watched it.  The text you are keying on is a holdover from MB2 which had a different definition of "watched".  That will display if you have played any portion of it at any time.

The main watched indicators are the closed eyes and they are reporting that the system doesn't think you've watched it.

What player do you use and with what version of MBC did you watch it?

Ah, I didn't know that.

Player is MPC-HC 1.6.5.6366 I used the "configure my player" link to set it up, and did change a few key mappings for some navigation buttons but that's it. Pretty simple installation.

MB3 Classic client is 3.0.72.0 B9-20.1

MB Server is 3.0.5031.21343

Really appreciate the responses, and I can send logs or anything if it would help.

And you watched that item through to the credits with .72?

Do me a favor - play it again and just jump to the credits and stop it.  Does it get marked watched?

I'm using MBC 72 beta, and MPC-HC X64 1.6.8.7417 although the problem is not specific to these versions.  Server version is the one released earlier this week, but The problem has been around for a while.  I can see how it works on another pc with a different profile.  I use the subdued theme.

I started up MBC on another PC, and two shows I recently watched on my main PC are still in the EHS.  I'll switch to the internal windows media centre and see if that changes anything.

This may have been stupid-user syndrome ebr...

I tried it with no change.

But then I started looking at my MPC-HC settings, and noticed the port 13579 service thing was not active. I or one of my kids may have inadvertently clicked it off.

I just realized this interface is probably what allows MB3 to communicate with my player. I let 13579 run aggain and everything seems to be working again as far as the Unwatched list.

Sorry for the runaround, and thanks for taking the time.

I think Lorac's issue may be different from this so can't really comment on it.

Well, port 13579 is active and I do use MPC-HC as an external player but none of my movies gets the 'recently watched' mark. What Am I missing?

BTW, love the looks of the page where one must choose a user profile. Any chance the 'Please enter password' page will get the same look and feel?

eh - do you have the external player setup as the specialized MPC-HC type as opposed to generic?

Do you watch the items past the "max resume %" value set on the server?

I have the external player setup as I always had it: as the specialised MPC-HC. Should it be the generic one?

yes, I watch the whole movie and therefore past the 90% vale set on the server.

No, it needs to be the MPC-HC one.

I'd need to see a debug log from MBC when one doesn't mark when you think it should to have a clue.

I finished 'watching' the movie around 07:43:46

Yep, that reported a position of 0 when it was finished which is incorrect.  I have a feeling it is going to be a real bugger to figure out why, though.

Exactly how did this item stop?  Did you stop it or did it play to the end and stop itself?

In tried both. Movies never are marked as watched.
