Hi,

Not sure where to start providing all the required info to understand and solve my issue, so I'll give it a shot.

I have Emby Server version 4.5.4.0 installed on my laptop, running Windows 10.
I have Emby app 2.2.6a on my Samsung TV (UE40ES6570)
Both my laptop and TV are on the same network (WiFi)

I try to play movies through the Emby app on my TV, and some movies will work just fine, and others will return back to the menu with:
Undefined
Rendor error type: 0

I understood this is because of some incompatible codec in the movie file, which my TV cannot play?
I also understood that Emby somehow knows what my TV supports and what not, and will transcode movies to a format my TV can play?
So I guess something is wrong, and Emby serves the movie without transcoding while it should?

I enabled debug log, and then started a movie which fails with the error above. This is what's in the logs (I narrowed it down to the logs from playback started until playback stopped):

The movie in this example has following specs:



I also installed SmartView from Samsung on my laptop, and then I can right-click on the movie file and select "Cast to device" > "[TV]UE40ES6570".
This works fine, the movie plays on my TV. So it looks like something goes wrong while trying the play this movie through Emby, just not sure what.

Anything else I can check, try, provide, in order to get these movies to play as well through Emby?

Actually, I don't think the legacy app makes use of these settings.

I suspect that EAC3 may not really be supported even though the app allows it

Yes, but I no longer have the manual!  I think you're right, DD+ was supported.

I'm not sure if we can do much for this.  It looks like it's using DirectPlay, so if there is a render 0 error then it's something that the TV doesn't like and I don't know how we determine what that is.

I think I can eliminate the EAC3 as suspected issue here.

This movie works perfectly through Emby on the Samsung TV:

And the ones giving errors in Emby:

This movie (same as the opening post in this topic) does not work (rendor error type 0) through Emby on the Samsung TV (but works perfect when I play it with "cast to device" from my laptop)

Important to note is that all movies not working through Emby do work fine when I use "cast to device" from my laptop, which makes me suspect an issue with Emby (either server or app) and not with the TV. But I can't see what it so specific with the movies not working compared to the ones that do work through Emby. I have looked at the audio codec and video codec and bitrate for the non working movies, but nothing that doesn't appear also in the working movies it seems.

Reason I don't want to simply use "cast to device" is because it has no support for subtitles (at least I haven't found a way), and I simply like the UX with Emby better
And reason I have Emby server on my laptop is because my SynologyNAS was not powerful enough to do the transcoding (would give stream errors).

I think you've just hit the nail on the head.  When you 'cast to device' the subtitle streams are being ignored, but 33 text streams in the file is causing issues on the TV.

Can you strip out a bunch of the sub streams that you don't need and see whether that fixes it?

I don't need any subtitle stream as I use seperate srt files as subtitles anyway, so I'll strip out all subtitles on one of the "broken" movies, and see if that fixes it.

I had my focus on codecs, and not on those text streams, but that's a big difference indeed.

I'll let you know the results later today!

Yeah, same.  It took me a while to notice it in your screenshot but I expect that's the issue.

Reporting back!

I've stripped out all subtitles except one from all the movies giving problems.
And all of them are working perfect now through Emby.

So the many subtitles were the key issue here.
