Google tv and emby app

I just installed emby app on new google chromecast (google.tv)

 

However, when trying to play, it it says playback is not supported

I have to sign in at ... euro per month or unlock app

I chose unlock app but then it wants me to add payment method..

 

What?

I dont want premiere yet, i just want direct play?

Why isnt this working?

Yes

No problems connecting to it when i use kodi for emby , or the emby app on lg tv

So not sure why this comes up on google tv

Maybe its a setting but i cant find it

Do i truly need to unlock or pay for it?

You have two options:

  1. Buy Emby Premiere
  2. Purchase an app unlock

Are you logged into the device with the same email address that your Premier is associated with?

Why we have to pay on android and on kodig and lg tv or windows not?

Even i see "free" should give me playback no?

Even that doesnt work...

The google device has differtent mailadres, but that shouldnt be the issue if i log into the emby app with correct account, no.

I don't have premiere account

i dont need live tv

I just want local playback like in kodi

In Spain it's about 4.99 €. One time payment and you can unlock as many devices as you want, as long as you are logged to the same store and the same account.

i would want to know first if it works or not.

The free account gives 1 minute playback, but even that doesnt works..

Any idea how i can test to be sure it works? Then i would hapily pay

In apps you have two hours to get a refund (any reason, no questions asked), I don't know if this also applies to app unlock purchases. @ebr can you confirm that?

As I said above, I have a Chromecast with Google TV running the Emby ATV app and it works fine.

All depends on your content whether it can direct play it or not, but I haven't found anything it can't/won't play.

I cannot confirm as this is Google's policy.  When you purchase an app unlock, you are actually purchasing from Google, not us.  Then (at a point a long time in the future) they give us a piece of what they got :) .  I imagine that they will refund a recent purchase though.

I also imagine it will work well for you.  The app does have a two week trial but you must have installed it at some point in the past so the trial has expired.

@ebr On SFNs, what does "Software Decode" signify please?

At my in-law's and getting this in a Direct Playing movie, but not sure what it means in the latest beta (63).

Just sent in-app logs (user=Media), as it was Direct Playing but then dropped through to a Remux, with SFNs showing a Direct Play error. 

Any advice would be appreciated.

That means we are decoding the audio with ffmpeg in the app instead of passing it through to the built-in media decoders on the device.  It is roughly equivalent to "Local Downmix" before except that it won't always be downmixed (it can output LPCM).

Won't that slow down an already slow device ?

My in-laws only have a Nexus Player and there was quite a bit of stop/start during playback, which then, I think, caused the transcoding due to a Direct Play error.

Highly doubtful for decoding audio.  Again, this isn't doing anything really any different than the previous version.  It is just labeled more accurately.
