Mi Box S - scaling / zooming doesn't work

I'm trying to fit the movie to the full screen, without black bars. Using Mi Box S with the latest firmware (Android 9.0) Emby's built-in player doesn't scale the movies properly - proportions are distorted. Other players behave the same if hardware acceleration is turned on. Once the hardware acceleration is turned off, zooming/scaling is fine.

Is it possible to configure how the video is rendered (using hardware/opengl/surface etc. or not - like VLC or nPlayer does)?

Hi erb,

Using Zoom the movie just scaling vertically. I'm sure tha this is something wrong with Mi Box S firmware (I have 3 boxes - the same). Other playes fix that turing off hardware rendering / acceleration.

So the "zoom" option and the "vertical stretch" option do the same thing?

Can I ask why you are wanting to crop off part of the image...?

Yes, Zoom and Vertical Stretch do the same.

Usually, far left and right parts of the movie are not so important and doesn't have significant details, so I prefer to sacrifice them in favour of the bigger picture :)

Hi guys,

I'm so tired using external app (VLC) to play the movies - because of:

  • If I pause the video and screensaver turns on - the progress is reset
  • It asks to mark watched or not every time
  • It turns on the subtitles every time

Any updates on the software rendering in the natve player? Share the sources - I'll do it by myself :)

I cannot say exactly when we'd be able to investigate this specific thing further.  Does your display not have zoom options?

I've workarounded this issue - downgraded Mi Box S to Android 8.1 (you need USB A male - USB A male cable for this, Amlogic USB burning tool and two special recovery images).

So this thread can be closed.
