I just built this new media server that I want to install MB3 Server on. I am using FlexRaid-F

Here is my hardware:

Intel Core i5-3470 Quad-Core Processor 3.2 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155  with onboard Intel HD Graphics 2500

Samsung 250GB SSD for operating system

ASUS P8Z77-V LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Kingston Technology HyperX Blu 16 GB Kit (2x8 GB) 1600MHz DDR3 PC3-12800 Non-ECC CL10 DIMM

6 Western Digital 4 TB WD Green SATA III 5400 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD40EZRX

Silverstone Tek GD08B Aluminum Extended ATX / SSI-EEB / SSI-CEB HTPC Computer Case Cases - Black

Lite-On 24X SATA Internal DVD+/-RW Drive with Software

Noctua Ultra Silent CPU Cooler Cooling NH-U9B SE2

5 Noctua NF-F12 PWM fans

WHS 2011

Do I need a GPU to run MB3 on this server?

Not for the server at this time but we may take advantage of one eventually.

Thanks ebb. I will get a GPU when the time comes. For now will do without.

If/when ffmpeg supports this so will we

Thank you Luke. No sense in spending the money on a GPU now for the server.

Is there a way to make the transcoding process use the GPU instead of CPU for transcoding? I notice fairly high CPU usage when transcoding more than 1 video stream at a time, it seems that the GPU would be better suited for this task.

Currently, this isn't possible. However, if the transcoder that the server uses (FFMpeg) ever supports using the GPU to do transcoding, it will be implemented.

I have heard rumors that this MIGHT happen so don't give up hope on it just yet. It may be a while before this feature is added though.

The ffmpeg site would be the appropriate location to follow its feature development. Media Browser just uses it as a drop in, similar to many applications.
