sooty234 266
TL/DR, you need to manually turn HDR on in Windows. Auto-switching from SDR to HDR is slowly dying. Microsoft is slowly killing it. They are wanting us to turn HDR on, manually. Some software(s) have found their own workaround. Nvidia wrote an API that will allow their drivers to toggle HDR on and off, like a light switch. The player that Theater uses has chosen not to do this, and instead it works just like VLC. I run windows in HDR all the time. So yes it will pass the HDR metadata to the display, but only if you enable HDR in Windows. If you don't turn it on, the player will tone map the HDR. lorac 100
Personally I think everything just looks better if you keep Windows in HDR mode all the time.
