Recently New Server Setup - Playback Issues with anything Transcoded.

Direct Playback works great, but anything else, it seems it can never get more than 4-6 seconds ahead in the buffer when watching performance from the Dashboard.

Most of the time it's 2-3 seconds and will break/pause for a bit, get back a few seconds, and then do that again.

When looking through logs, what bits are you looking at, for these kind of things?

I've attached logs from two close by sessions.

what are your transcode settings?  your logs indicate your server is choking on the media.  does it behave the same way with something that's not x265?

Okay, so.. x265.. Hmmm...

x264 is as expected.

Looking at the CPU usage, it pegs it at 100% when playing x265 where as x264 is 1% ... didn't even occur to me ... to check that previously. 🤔

So.. that thing needs a major upgrade. Hmmm..

LOL, AMD A4-7300.. Okay, so that thing is waaaay lousier than I thought it could ever be.

Guess I'll get another motherboard / chip for that thing. From the benchmark pages it looks like just about -anything- would be better. What's a good choice for an average setup?

Good catch.  I didn't notice that the original media wasn't h.264, but did notice the transcoding FPS was to low for smooth playback.

I was running Emby Server on an old Athlon A8 and it ran fine, but I built a new box awhile back with an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X. Gigabyte A320 Motherboard, 16 GB RAM, and an Nvidia GT710 video card, running on Linux Mint., and have had no issues whatsoever with it.  I'm not a gamer and had no need for overclocking or any other bells and whistles.  If memory serves me the hardware ran just over $300.

Video card wise, since they've all been servers / NAS devices over the years the video card never came to mind. Though I can see now where having the Nvidia extensions can be helpful with ffmpeg.
