Emby did not find chromecast

Hi, I'm using Emby 4.5.0.50 and I can't cast anymore.

I tried from Android Chrome Browser, even from the same mobile from Firefox Browser. I tried also from my Chrome desktop browser, even changing the user.

If I click on the cast button in the browser, no chromecast are available. I have 2 different Chromecast in the same network of my phone and computer, both Chromecast working well while casting from Youtube for example.

What can I do to make it works?

Hi,

Make sure the Chromecasts are on the same Wifi Network you're connected to.  Check the IP and make sure there are on the same subnet.

Firefox doesn't support Chromecast, so there you go on that.

Do not works with direct LAN IP and even with the external Operator's IP.

Yes, as I told both Chromecasts and computer and mobile are in the same network, same subnet.

Firefox does not support Chromecast. It doesn't matter what IP you use. No Chromecast on Firefox.

IP address INSIDE your network should pose no security issues unless you have hackers in the house. :)

This will not work. The browser only allows Chromecast when using https. So that means you need to use an https address, and then also setup https with your emby server.

Or you can use our android app instead of the browser.

I didn't know Chromecast only worked in SSL. In fact, I recently moved the certificate management to the router for the convenience of automatic renewal with Let's Encrypt. But I also had to enter the certificate in Emby for the correct functioning of Emby from the outside with HTTPS. In fact, from the outside I have no problems with certificate errors, however this led me to ignore that the Chromecast malfunction was not related to the certificate.
Thanks a lot!

I had exactly the same setup and issue, and I found this comment very accurate.

My emby is not visible from the internet and I am not sure how access my lan address with https (there is a ton of conflicting info on the internet!), but I tried the android app and it did perfectly fine.

If someone has a simple guide to setup ssl on local addresses, that would be very welcomed!

What OS are you running Emby Server on?
Do you have a Domain Name or using DDNS?
You will need one of those as all security certificates  require a name to be tied to.

Have you ever setup a certificate before with any app or server?

The Emby server runs on Linux (Arch).

I have a DDNS as the server hosts a couple of websites (with nginx), but my Emby instance is only accessible from LAN and I want it to remain like this.

For the part that is exposed to the internet I am using Let's Encrypt with certbot.

But I understand that we are going a bit too much into the specifics and out of Emby's scope. I may just need to do my homeworks.
