Morten14 11 Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 (edited) I'm running Emby on a Synology DS416play, which can transcode H.264 4K, but not HEVC 4K. I believe many systems are similar in these capabilities. Currently, if a user tries to transcode a 4K HEVC video, my entire system will hang. It would be brilliant if it was possible to disable 4K HEVC transcoding, and only allow direct streams for this format. Edited September 16, 2020 by Morten14 9 1
Luke 40086 Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Hi, there's currently no way to do this without disabling all video transcoding for a particular user, but it's probably a good idea to add. 1
RedWings 15 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 (edited) I'm back with the exact same question, still not possible to only disable h.265 transcoding ? Edited January 30, 2021 by RedWings
RanmaCanada 457 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Have your 4k movies in a separate library and deny them access to it. It's literally that easy.
GrimReaper 4142 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Just now, RanmaCanada said: Have your 4k movies in a separate library and deny them access to it. It's literally that easy. I'd say OP doesn't want to deny access to 4K content, just not transcoded HEVC but allow direct play only.
Luke 40086 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 There's currently no way to do that, but it's come to before so it's always possible for the future. Thanks.
Morten14 11 Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 @Luke would really appreciate this as a feature. Looking forward to it. I understand if it's not highest priority, but if you could look into it when there's time it would be very nice 1
heciruam 27 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 There's a plugin that will kill 4k streams: 1
RedWings 15 Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 I don't want to disable access to 4k (h.265) movies, I just want to prevent their transcoding. Because I have a bug at the moment, if ever someone outside the network launches a 4k movie which unfortunately tries to transcode, my Rclone goes crazy and the Server network card is saturated. The logs are quite strange on this subject, I think I'll open a topic to see this ...
bakes82 159 Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 The plugin I wrote should do exactly that lol, it will stop any 4k stream that is transcoding or however you setup the options. 1
amb13 18 Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 (edited) Hi I would love if this was added to Emby as a feature. Especially since the puling doesn't work with the latest Emby version. Edited June 10, 2021 by amb13
amb13 18 Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 Any updates on this? An option for disabling HEVC transcoding would be very welcome.
