Hello there

I have a lot many Files in My media Folder arranged this way

Deadpool 2016
   Deadpool 2016 720p x264.mkv
   Deadpool 2016 720p x265.mkv
   Deadpool 2016 1080p x264.mkv
The Avengers 2011
   The Avengers 2011 720p x264.mkv
   The Avengers 2011 1080p x264.mkv
Thor 2011
   Thor 2011 720p x265.mkv
   Thor 2011 1080p x26.mkv

When I added them to my Library, they are shown as different Movies

Like its shown in the Image667729604_Screenshot(760).thumb.png.fcd9eed434738518c45ac1f4423bde7e.png

My request is:

Is there way to fix this? Like is there any way for me to show these 3 same movies of different resolution appear inside a single Movie Folder

In a way that I can choose the one I wish to

Thanks

You need to name your movies according to the Emby naming conventions linked below:

Emby Movie Naming

From the folder structure you’ve shown though, all you would need is to add a dash in the filename of the movies, after the year.

Example: Deadpool 2016 - 720p x264.mkv

I would name your files like the naming convention so your year is in () so it's taken as the year vs part of the movie name.

That should fix what looks like and identification issue in the above pic as well.

Thank you very much for all the answers

Is there any way that I can rename all of my files this way in Bulk?

I use https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/ . However, it doesn't recurse through multiple directories; you'd probably need to use a command line command with regular expressions for that.  But as your file names are missing punctuation it would, I think be hard to write a regular expression that would work well over all your files.

I hear good things about https://www.filebot.net/ which is often recommended, but I've not tried it myself.

I am following the naming convention guide for multiple versions of video in same file and still noticing that they display as duplicates movies within Emby. Interesting is that the same naming convention for TV shows displays as intended where there shows a dropdown to be able to select versions.

If your files are named exactly like that, they're not named properly (you've got one extra dot, so it's treated like multi-movie folder), they need to be named exactly as movie folder is.

Rename, rescan.

That was it! Thank you.

Even see an icon now that apparently indicates more than one file is in there.

I use the Emby auto organize plugin that adds the dot in the file names, didnt realize this was the issue.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I wanted to thank @GrimReaper. I was beating my head against the wall trying to figure out why I was getting multiple metadata entries:

Until I read this tid-bit "they need to be named exactly as movie folder is."

Movie folder was structured as: \M\Matrix, The (1999)\The Matrix (1999) - 1080p.mkv

                                                    \M\Matrix, The (1999)\The Matrix (1999) - 4K.mkv

Screenshot 2025-06-09 110411.png

Now, it is structured as: \M\Matrix, The (1999)\Matrix, The (1999) - 1080p.mkv

                                       \M\Matrix, The (1999)\Matrix, The (1999) - 4K.mkv

My library is very happy now. I may have to rescan for others with "The".

Again, thank you very much GrimReaper!!
