I recently started using 4k x265 HVEC files and some play flawlessly and others shudder a lot and even often cause Emby to force close. I can supply any info needed, just not sure what to supply.

I am running the most current AndroidTV version and the most current Emby server version and Emby app version on the NVIDIA ShieldTV

Hardware, I am running the following:

Server:

It is your subtitles more than likely causing this. When these are "Forced" or "Default" the player will make use of them.

You can login as your user on Emby server and change the subtitle mode. Then whenever you want subtitles you must manually enable them.

I am getting another NVIDIA ShieldTV Pro. It should arrive tomorrow. If so, I will test the same setting on it to rule the it network issues. All connections are 1Gbps to a managed 24 port switch with no vlans or QOS set up.

Thanks for all your help! Figured it out. Pioneer AVRs have a kind of hidden setting for 4K HDMI. They can be set to Enhanced or STD mode. Enhanced mode is what is needed to get everything working properly! This is also on some Onkyo AVRs. Also need to be the newest firmware. This will also fix 4K HDR for Netflix, Amazon and Disney+.
