gs200 0
Hi all, I'm new to Emby, and am trying to get things up and running. I'm really enjoying it so far but seem to have hit a snag with closed caption subtitles. I've currently set up my server on an older laptop (upgraded to Windows 10). I've ripped several DVDs to mp4 files using Handbrake for Win10, and have included the basic closed caption subtitle (CC608) in most of them. I didn't burn it in of course, expecting to be able to turn it on or off. I'm able to activate the captions just fine with VLC on the computer. We use Roku streaming sticks on our TV's, and I can't seem to get the closed captions to display without transcoding. Is this right? I've turned on captions in the Roku client app, confirmed they are on in the Roku interface, and just can't seem to get them to display. Can someone please help?? If I choose the playback correction option, they will show, but then my server shows it is having to transcode. I appreciate any help and guidance. Thanks! Luke 37062
Hi, what file extension are they and how did you name them?
ebr 14912
Okay, you are talking about embedded Closed Captions in IEA 608 format, correct? Those are different from our subtitles and the Roku player will not be able to "see" those in an mkv container - only mpeg2 in TS I believe. gs200 0
That is correct. Most of the DVDs I've checked so far had the older line 21 CC608 standard. I like it for it's clean and simple look. I also see Vobsubs on most discs, but I haven't been grabbing those. Would they be better? Anyway, I ripped to mp4 and embedded CC608 in the container. Unless someone has experience with these, what is the ideal way to handle subtitles in Emby on Roku? Do they need to use burn in to display from the server? Or use Open subtitles? Thanks!! Luke 37062
Can you provide a copy of the media info from one of these videos. You can find the media info at the bottom of the web app detail screen. Thanks.
ebr 14912
Vobsub would be slightly better but text-based subs would be best. The Roku is only going to support closed captions in mpeg2 I believe.
