Force Audio Transcoding when not on WiFi

Force Audio Transcoding when not on WiFi - any way to accomplish this?

Running server 4.4.0.14 on FreeBSD. I also tried the 4.3.x.x server at first. (There was mention of compiling from source with LAME support when installing emby-server-4.3 via ports on FreeBSD)

I connect to my network via VPN when I'm away from home, so I am guessing that the server doesn't detect that I'm connecting remotely while the phone is accessing it abroad. (Internal IP address requesting) My VPN connections come in on 192.168.2.x, while the rest of my private network comes in at 192.168.1.x, if that helps...

Everything works great, such as video transcoding. I am able to switch that on the fly. I was just hoping to transcode audio on the fly as well. I don't want to use multiple GB of data daily while playing my music library (mainly flac rips) over my cellular network.

Any ideas and information that will let me overcome this issue would help!

You can force your VPN to be considered external. Go to the server dashboard, and click on Network. The very top box on that screen is for "LAN Networks". Anything in that box, as it says, is local. Anything else is remote.

 

So, in mine, I have:

 

192.168.3.0/255.255.255.0, 10.8.0.0/255.255.255.0

 

In my case, I wanted VPN to be seen as local (10.8.0.0) but I don't use VPN to stream. In your case, you would only have 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 in that box and your VPN should be considered remote then without having to manually adjust video / audio. Instead, your playback internet streaming limits would apply.

It's not hard to do! We've likely all done it. Maybe except Luke, lol.
