thrillcat 12
So I have a certain .mkv rip from a blu-ray in my library. For whatever reason, when playing on my Shield, if I select the 5.1 DTS HD audio track, the video appears to skip, almost as if it's trying to play a 24p track at 29.97 or something. It seems to be a steadily timed skip throughout. Switch to the DTS or Uncompressed 2.0 track and it plays fine. It does the same thing in Plex on the Shield. It plays fine in Plex and Infuse on the AppleTV. It's not a bandwidth thing, as I am hardwired to the network, and have zero problem playing any other content - UHD, HD, DTSX, DTSHDMA, etc., nothing else seems to demonstrate this issue. Is there anything in the file specs that looks odd? I didn't see anything. It's almost like the DTS-HD 5.1 track is looking for a 29.97 video file to lock to, while the other two are fine with the 23.98 track, and the Shield is the only device that can't handle it. Log attached, looks like playback attempts were around 20:53:57.890. FrostByte 5055
The sample rate is a little higher than normal. All of my DTS including DTS-HD is all 48,

All of my DTS including DTS-HD is all 48,000Yeah, it’s a hi-res audio track, and doing a little research it seems like it’s definitely just a shortcoming of the Shield. It doesn’t play surround hi-res. Perhaps Emby could flag these files when playback on a Shield is attempted and transcode to DTSHDMA at 48, so we’re at least not forced into the lossy DTS if we want surround? Luke 37143
Does that other server convert the audio when that track is selected?
thrillcat 12
Does that other server convert the audio when that track is selected? The other server on Shield has the same stutter, direct play. On AppleTV, every app and server coverts to 48k PCM. Luke 37143
Yea it's a difficult situation, where probably it may technically support it but in this case it's just not playing it well. We'll see what @@ebr thinks. Thanks.
ebr 14944
We can't transcode to a downsampled DTS HD. If the app can see that the sample rate is over spec, then we'd have to transcode to DD.
