simardd 1
When playing music from an imported m3u playlist in the web interface, it only shows the track, but not the artist. These are individual tracks all in a single folder that contain the title, artist and album artist only in the ID3 tags. The album, track and discnumber fields in the ID3 tags are blank. Is there a better way to configure the ID3 tags for individual tracks so that the artist name will be displayed? Note that the Roku and Android players show the same thing. All 3 are OK when browsing songs from the library. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
Luke 37064
Hi there, so you're saying you can see the artist names on these same songs in other areas?
simardd 1
That's right. If I browse the same songs in the library, I can see the artist and year.
Luke 37064
What version of Emby Server?
simardd 1
Emby server/web version 4.3.0.30 running on Windows. Roku version SG 3.0.193. Android mobile 3.0.87.

simardd 1
Would it be possible to add a metadata only feature for music collections? This would be useful for those of us who only have individual tracks and not full compilations. When adding music to the media library, there could be an option for "Do not download metadata". When selected, the metadata downloaders would be ignored, and only metadata and album art embedded in the ID3 tags would be used. Typically all I care to see is the Title and Artist, and perhaps the Year and Genre. Thanks.
Luke 37064
Well we already have that. Have you explored the settings for your music library?
simardd 1
Yes, I have. I have tried deselecting the MusicAlbum and MusicArtist downloaders. But I'm still seeing strange things like tracks with no artist names, or incorrect artist names (like a lot of Aretha Franklin). The album art seems to be pretty close from what I've seen so far. Luke 37064
We'd have to look at some example tracks and what their embedded metadata is.
simardd 1
I started collecting evidence of a few troublesome tracks for you. When I went to get the Emby server log (attached), I found this error at the end of the library scan: "Error running postscan task". I don't know if this is relevant to this but thought I would point it out. I created a library with 142 tracks in a folder Y:\Music\Latest Hits (network share \\core-i7\DriveF\Music\Latest Hits). The first 2 attached images show how the Latest Hits music library was added (all Metadata music downloaders disabled). The next 2 attached images are for the tracks Jason Mraz-Might As Well Dance.mp3 (which shows as Aretha Franklin) and Goo Goo Dolls-So Alive.mp3 (which shows as Various Artists). The 2 MP3 files are also attached in case you want to verify the ID3 tags. Let me know if you need anything else. embyserver.zip Jason Mraz-Might As Well Dance.mp3 Goo Goo Dolls-So Alive.mp3

PenkethBoy 2063
Was curious so i created a m3u file for an album via Mp3Tag imported (library scan) to emby and the artist does show for me - just wondering if it might be the format of the m3u which is the issue #EXTM3U #EXTINF:194,U2 - Vertigo 01 Vertigo.mp3 #EXTINF:238,U2 - Miracle Drug 02 Miracle Drug.mp3 #EXTINF:309,U2 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own 03 Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own.mp3 #EXTINF:291,U2 - Love And Peace Or Else 04 Love And Peace Or Else.mp3 #EXTINF:348,U2 - City Of Blinding Lights 05 City Of Blinding Lights.mp3 #EXTINF:219,U2 - All Because Of You 06 All Because Of You.mp3 #EXTINF:270,U2 - A Man And A Woman 07 A Man And A Woman.mp3 #EXTINF:304,U2 - Crumbs From Your Table 08 Crumbs From Your Table.mp3 #EXTINF:232,U2 - One Step Closer 09 One Step Closer.mp3 #EXTINF:281,U2 - Original Of The Species 10 Original Of The Species.mp3 #EXTINF:282,U2 - Yahweh 11 Yahweh.mp3 #EXTINF:223,U2 - Fast Cars 12 Fast Cars.mp3 example of m3u from mp3tag - no path info as saved to location of the album - U2 How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb Emby appears to have read the metadata from the mp3 files as when i look at the metadata in Emby for a track it appears complete with all normal metadata present and correct - including Album Artist and Artist etc What i see in Emby, "mp3tag" is the name of the m3u file
simardd 1
Thanks for your input. I appreciate the help. The problem seems to be related to the conversion of the embedded ID3 tags when the library is scanned. The M3U playlists are importing just fine. You can see this in the Emby metadata from my previous post. I showed 3 examples of metadata with incorrect artists. In all 3 cases, the artist is properly encoded in the ID3 tags of the MP3s (also verified with mp3tag).
Happy2Play 8281
I had no issue with those three track displaying their embedded metadata. All library options disabled. FYI the proscan errors are unrelated as they are from TVDB.
simardd 1
Could you try with the attached track? I did a few runs of removing/adding the library with a smaller selection of tracks until I found the first one with an issue. Then I removed/added the library with only the one track and the issue remained. If you can't reproduce it, we can then concentrate on just this one track and why I have an issue with it. Also, just a thought, could my library.db be corrupt? Is it easy to recreate it? Bon Jovi-This House Is Not For Sale.mp3 embyserver.zip

simardd 1
I started from scratch and reinstalled Emby server and completely rebuilt my library. I am now seeing the artist names. There are still a few tracks with misnamed artists, but it's a definite improvement.

The tracks in the playlist have to already be in your emby library, and that's where the artist info comes from.
PenkethBoy 2063
Never said it was As we have almost zero info on how anything works - it was a test to see if i could get the same result and give the OP something to compare against
