1 file multiple episodes not being recognised

Hi there,

I've checked the wiki and other related posts. Still not sure why this isn't working.

I've chosen this format:

show name S01E02-E03 episode name.ext

As after some testing I can see it's compatible with Plex and Kodi too!

However Emby is just seeing the first episode.

Example name:

Rocko's Modern Life (1993)/Season 01/Rocko's Modern Life - S01E01-E02 - No Pain, No Gain & Who Gives a Buck.mkv

Screenshot attached showing episode 1 but not too.

I thought it may have been since I renamed them. So I moved the folder out, scanned the library to remove it, then I added it back in and scanned again.

Same issue persists. What's really weird is, this file works as expected:

Seinfeld (1989)/Season 09/Seinfeld - S09E23-E24 - The Finale.mkv

As always, any assistance is greatly appreciated. :)

I had no issue adding that exact naming.

Thanks everyone.

I wondered about the "&" symbol too.

Just renamed it to "Rocko's Modern Life - S01E01-E02 - No Pain, No Gain and Who Gives a Buck" and this didn't fix it.

I do have .nfo files. I have attached an example. Also to test if this was the issue, I just deleted the .nfo for one of the episodes, removed it from Emby and re-added it. This did work.

What's wrong with the .nfo that it's breaking it? As a side note I tested the filename and .nfo in Kodi and Plex and both work so it seems to be "standard" if there is such a thing :)

Emby does multi-episodes this way.  nfo file with <episodenumberend> number.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<episodedetails>
<plot>Rocko and Heffer join a health club in hopes of losing a few of those unsightly pounds.

Rocko gets his very own credit card, and Heffer convinces him to go on a spending spree at the mall.</plot>

Ah I see. Different to the kodi standard:

“ For multi-part episodes, add multiple <episodedetails> XML blocks in succession in the same nfo file”

Any chance the nfo plugin can be adjusted to support the kodi format?

It is really odd this has not been brought up in the many years Emby has been doing it this way.

Edit.. it was actually mentioned here.

Ah yes I see. Thanks. Bigger issue than I thought. Sounds like if they were just merged for the database, I imagine when it scrobbles to Trakt it would just mark one episode as played. Oh dear :(

When it's tagged correctly with the ending episode number it should work with Trakt. I'm not positive that it's been implemented, but it's easily added if not.

Just ran into this problem again.

For the record I can no longer use:

"Rocko's Modern Life (1992) - S01E01-E02 - No Pain, No Gain & Who Gives a Buck-480p.x264.AC3"

Emby doesn't recognise any files like this, regardless of .nfo

I realise that I use a lot of "-" in my chosen naming convention. Strictly the recommended convention uses spaces instead. My work around is to use:

Rocko's Modern Life (1992) - S01E01E02 - No Pain, No Gain & Who Gives a Buck-480p.x264.AC3

When I do this, they now show up in Emby again.

There is still the issue of multiple episodes being read from .nfo using the Kodi standard of multiple: <episodedetails> for each episode in the one .nfo.

Is there any chance this can be implemented for Emby? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Why do you feel emby doesn't recognize them?

As previously discussed we use <episodenumberend> and it appears the new Kodi way is both episodedetails stacked in one file.

Yea it's a long standing issue because in the database each media file gets a single metadata record. It's not something we can easily split apart into two. At some point we'll get to this though. Thanks.

Yes thank you. So I was kinda just bumping this issue to see if there was any chance of getting a solution. Sorry to be a pain. :)
