FordGT90Concept 61
This issue has been present for a long time. The live TV stream is sourced from a Hauppauge QuadHD tuner. When watching live TV you can literally open the OSD and see that the gray bar is being shortened as the green bar advances. This is confirmed in practice as well because you can hit back 10 times in a row and it will only go back by maybe 10 seconds and no more--then it forces you to play. I believe only the Xbox One app has this issue and it's across many accounts. Considering how WinTV works (accumulating gigabyte files), there has to be a whole lot more data than that sitting on the server but the Xbox One app refuses to acknowledge it exists. Version of the Xbox One app is 1.1.272.70 Version of Emby Server is 4.3.0.21 beta Edited November 13, 2019 by FordGT90Concept
FordGT90Concept 61
I've noticed two more things by using live TV via Emby/Edge browser: 1) What was described in the post above doesn't just apply to the Xbox One app, I can't back up via watching live TV through the web either on Edge. It's the same thing: there's more or less only what you're seeing in the buffer and only a tiny bit more (seconds). 2) Android TV and Xbox One apps, when streaming live TV from the QuadHD, it periodically hangs (maybe every 15-60 minutes) and during this hang. By hang, I mean that the video/audio stops and then picks up (not resumes) a few seconds later. You miss what is in between (not a pause like the HDHRs do). The important thing: I'm not seeing this same behavior via Emby/Edge browser. It's unique to the apps. FordGT90Concept 61
Emby via Edge and Emby via Windows Store app, both transcode when playing a MPEG2 recording. Using MPC-HC, streaming over the network, the GPU in my computer (RX 590) hardware decodes it using only 6% of the decoder's resources. Can Edge/Windows Store apps truly not handle MPEG2 GPU decoding? Edited November 20, 2019 by FordGT90Concept
MBSki 1016
Also experiencing this issue with the Xbox One app, can't skip back the stream. I can't skip forward on Live TV either. Is skip forward in the process of getting fixed as well?
FordGT90Concept 61
From what I've seen, trick playing is completely broken. There is only right now: there is no backwards nor forwards with Live TV. If you try to go back, it hitches then continues playing from current. If you try to go forward, it hitches then continues playing from current.

FordGT90Concept 61
Any news? This is still an issue. When watching Live TV can only go back maybe once, after that it can only pause or go forward. It still seems like there is no live TV buffer on Xbox One S and, looking through the settings, there's no way to make it do so (e.g. store on Xbox instead of Server). Luke 37064
We have begun working on mpv in the app, but it's still a ways away because we're unifying all of the features across all versions of the app.
t1m 8
I love the new emby client on xbox one... it's so much better, more responsive. so much faster. GREAT job. One small question Is there some way to get fastforward and rewind to work? It's really frustrating to not be able to timeshift when watching live tv. The skip functions aren't even working in the new version. This is the only thing keeping me from switching 100% from plex.

FordGT90Concept 61
Issue is still present. Live TV, can only pause or play. If you try to jump at all after pausing, it will jump to live and you can't go back. Works fine on Shield; very broken on Xbox One S. It doesn't matter if it is WinTV or HDHR, it always does it on Live TV. Recordings jump fine. Edited January 18, 2021 by FordGT90Concept
FordGT90Concept 61
Issue is still present. Xbox One S is completely incapable of trick playing. It can pause and resume Live TV, that's it. Jump back, it goes to current. Jump forward, it goes to current.

t1m 8
if you go to user settings in the app you can set it to always transcode... This fixed it for me. Edit... I thought you said it was on shield sorry, I'm not 100% if this setting exists on the xbox app or not. You need to make it transcode the playback, as the xbox won't timeshift. it sounds like you are direct playing the ts. It'll skip, but it's incredibly slow. @Luke Can you add the checkbox to disable direct play for ts files to the new app?

Same issue here @mbarylski if i try to play back TS that i recorded from for example tivimate they play but are incredibly slow for some reason when using direct play. If i transcode it solves the issue. Mind you, that my server is ridiculously over powered and under utilized; but it doesn't make sense to me that it should time shift smoothly when being transcoded and not direct play. Regarding that, it makes complete sense that you can only fast forward and rewind a live stream while transcoding... at least for me, as my source doesn't provide any buffer just a live stream., but a recording is itself all the data, and thus should be able to be accessed correctly. Is there a way to set a buffer manually for live tv streams? ea, if direct playing a live stream (rather than playing a transcoded stream) is there a way to use local device storage as a buffer so that time shifting works? I guess this may be device dependant. It works on roku (and android based devices), but not on xbox. @Luke might have input?
