3.0.10 Audio

After the update to 3.0.10 audio on all my media files (those that don't digitally bit stream) is very low, I've got to turn the volume up almost to maximum to get acceptable volume, which makes the navigational beeps in the interface very loud, and if I forget to lower it when I go to YouTube it almost blows my speakers out.

This occurs on 2 different machines.

Hi, check the volume control inside the application and make sure that it hasn't been set to a really low value.

I've seen this as well. AAC stereo is very quiet even though emby / system volume is at 100%. Modern shows with 5.1 sound are quite clear. It's rare i watch older media so not sure if it's a new issue.

You mean the volume slider that's in the OSD/GUI... THAT IS STILL MISSING.

Is there any other way to access that, is there keystrokes I can use?

I can't imagine this is the issue anyway, both machines were working fine yesterday, I wouldn't think a new version would change internal volume?

I only ever use Theater with an IR remote, I've NEVER seen the volume differ in Emby to the whole system volume slider.

I just noticed that my volume slider had been knocked down to 8, so that could be the answer. F10 is the volume up key

Unfortunately, Emby releases are getting worse and worse.

I got the update to 3.0.10, and now have absolutely no sound what so ever this despite the volume in the mixer saying that I should have sound. It worked fine on 3.0.8

How am I possibly supposed to use it without sound, and how on earth did such a disaster of a release find its way out the door.

As a developer myself (firmware for medical devices), I understand the challenges, but come on, at least test it on a variety of systems before release?

Any tips on how I can get my sound back would be appreciated!

Also, you still HAVE NOT fixed the volume OSD that's been missing for months!!

The ability to delete recordings made via a 3rd party TV App that you broke in an earlier 4.2 server release has still not been fixed. You have a fix apparently in the latest 4.3Beta, but why on earth was such a core issue not fixed promptly via a point release on the 4.2.x tree?

About ready to give up on Emby but Plex was just as bad. Its becoming a lottery every time I turn my screen on - will emby work today or have they broken it yet again?!

Apologies for the disruption. We're looking into it. In the meantime you may be able to resolve it via a one-time use of the mouse to access the volume control in the app to raise it back up.

It appears plugging a keyboard in and mashing F10 has fixed my audio.

I've been experiencing split second audio drops recently - possibly since 3.0.10.

I had this previously (in May 2018) but this time it's happening with DTS and AC3 as well (previously I only noticed it on EAC3).

"Enable exclusive audio mode" which appeared to fix it last time, made no difference this time.

(I bitstream everything to my receiver).

Try adding audio-exclusive=yes in your mpv.conf. To make sure it's actually being used. There are scenarios in which it gets disabled when using the UI setting.

OK, I'll give that a go - thanks.

F10 to raise the volume was able to resolve issue... the update apparently caused the internal app volume to be 0. That said,

Try adding audio-exclusive=yes in your mpv.conf.

I did that - and at first it appeared to have fixed the issue.

But, after watching a few episodes, I've noticed that the audio dropouts are only occurring for HEVC encoded videos. Obviously HEVC is more taxing on my system, I wondered if something was causing the audio to drop to keep audio and video in sync.

Then I remembered the "Enable video display syncing" option in the video settings. I used to have that "off" - but now there is no "off" option, only "Auto", "Display resample" and "Display video drop". How can I set it to off?

Note: I have been playing HEVC encoded 1080p video for ages without this issue.

It still does it with the default? Which is video-sync=audio. You don't really want to disable it.

So, the default is "Auto"? It is on Auto at the moment (in the ET video settings).

I don't have any video-sync option in my mpv.conf file.

I wonder what's changed recently, there wasn't an issue at all about 2 weeks ago.

Dropping audio is the last thing I want to happen as it is so obvious and annoying when it occurs. Looking at stats for nerds, there's no video frame drops occurring.

Try disabling bitstreaming the audio. I may have you post a trace log.

Well, I wouldn't want that to be permanent. Is it just to see (hear) what happens?

I'll try tomorrow (it's 11:40pm here - almost time for bed)  :P

How long does the audio drop out, for?

A split second, and about 3 or 4 times in a 45 minute episode.

I switched off bit streaming and played a HEVC episode - and no audio drops.

I then switched bit streaming back on and played another HEVC episode and still no audio drops!

Played an H264 episode and no drops either.

Maybe it's fixed, maybe it'll happen another day. But, for the last couple of weeks every HEVC video I've played has had a few audio dropouts. But, today none - so it's a little weird.

Whilst doing this I discovered an issue with the stats for nerds - it is almost always showing "stereo" for audio channels under the audio info section when audio channels is showing 6 under the original media info section. But it's definitely sending all the channels to my receiver.

(note: screenshot from my regular PC without refresh rate matching)

If I played something with TrueHD or dts with 7 or more channels then it showed the correct number of channels.
