How emby users can set permissions in qnap

I installed the latest emby on qnap TS-551,Purchased Emby Premiere,All functions and transcoding work very well.

But I have a problem is how emby users set up folder access permissions on qnap nas.

The current situation is that emby users seem to have access to all folders, can read and write or even delete, in the qnap nas own user management does not see emby users (the system can manage emby users on Synology nas above)

I don't want emby users to have access to my files at will, and can use nas to manage without using emby's own user management. Emby users only need to access files according to my nas settings.

My native language is not English, so I translated it using google. If there is a grammar incorrect, please bear with me.

Hi, Emby users are different from QNAP users. They are not the same thing. I would suggest creating Emby users for your user, and you can control the permissions to features and media as you wish.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

I know that emby users are not qnap users. Emby's user permissions are too high. It has all the permissions of my nas. You mean that I can only restrict the permissions of emby users by managing them, but not by qnap.

for example:
This has a folder, I just want emby to read it and can't modify it. I set the access permission of the qnap shared folder to "read only", but emby can still delete the file inside, although it can be set by emby. Not to delete, but this feeling makes me feel that emby is out of the control of qnap nas.

On the Synology NAS, if emby creates a new user, the Synology NAS will automatically create a corresponding user, so that nas can control the permissions of the emby user to access the folder.

I want to get the same results as Synology NAS. emby creates a user. qnap will have a user and emby user, so that I can manage emby user permissions through nas, instead of giving emby users the highest permissions by default, I can only Manage him through emby

If you set the permissions in the folder to readonly, how would Emby be able to delete it?

This is my problem. In qnap, I set the permissions of the movie shared folder to "read only". In emby, I select a movie in this file, click delete media, and the file is deleted in the shared folder. . Is emby user a root user in qnap nas?

I believe so yes because it's the only way for certain things to work, but I'll check with our qnap developer.

Why not just restrict the delete feature in emby?

Is emby user a root user in qnap nas?

Yep, just like every QPKG on your NAS. Don't take my word for it, SSH into the admin account, run ps, and see for yourself. I gave up caring about this long ago.

Why not just restrict the delete feature in emby?

Now you know that this problem exists I strongly urge you to reconsider the default user policy of allowing deletion.
