chjohans 34 Posted October 19, 2019 Author Posted October 19, 2019 @@Luke This is a real issue, so unless someone actually solves it I doubt it will solve itself. So yes, this is still happening, like a lot. To the point where personally I stopped using Emby for Kodi on quite a lot of installations. And it has been like this for several months now. How to fix this serious bug since Emby for Kodi is not part of the "core official Emby project", and the devs who was working on this obviously won't or can't help for whatever reason? Surly the fact that a situation like this can happen must have been considered? So how, is Emby for Kodi being abandoned, or will someone try to solve this issue?
TeamB 2414 Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 All the Kodi work is community based, we do the work because we like doing it, it is a hobby. Sometimes people step away due to real life or other commitments, and sometimes people move on and find new projects to work on. This is normal for OS community projects, people come and go. Its time for the community to step up.
chjohans 34 Posted October 30, 2019 Author Posted October 30, 2019 I would "step up" if I could, but I don't have any koding experience with Kodi. I can do whatever testing is necessary though if someone can look into this. Right now Emby for Kodi is dead I guess, hopefully someone will pick up the pieces and get this most annoying bug fixed.
fr0z3n 20 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Hi Luke No it's actually affecting the playback of video content Luke so it's quite a critical bug
Luke 40079 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Does the kodi log mention anything at the time of the problem?
fr0z3n 20 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Nothing obvious I could see. I sent logs to Angel a couple of months ago. Was described by her as a corner case. Want those same logs? Prefer to pm not post here. Cheers.
chjohans 34 Posted October 30, 2019 Author Posted October 30, 2019 @@Luke Please see the first post in this thread for logs from both Kodi and Emby server at a time this was happening multiple times. Audio is not affected by this AFAIK, this affects *video playback* until it makes Emby for Kodi pretty much unusable.
fr0z3n 20 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Happens for me too quite a bit. It's weird and random. Sometimes it'll occur like 75% of playback attempts. Other times it occurs like 25% of times. Very random. But when it does happen usually it'll happen like 5 times in a row
e2zippo 24 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Yeah, video is the problem, and it still happens quite frequently.
chjohans 34 Posted November 2, 2019 Author Posted November 2, 2019 I created an "issue" in the github repo for this addon, hopefully @@Angelblue05 will pick it up from there.
horstepipe 377 Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 So we are 100% sure this is a general video playback problem and not only concerning strm files?
fr0z3n 20 Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Yeah mate it happens with mp4s mkvs avis etc etc

chjohans 34 Posted November 6, 2019 Author Posted November 6, 2019 I registered this as an issue in GitHub a few days ago and messaged @@Angelblue05, but so far no response. Seems like Angelblue05 is MIA. @@Luke, would you or someone else be able to fix this? As it is now I might as well uninstall Emby for Kodi because it's just too annoying to actually use it when 75% of playback attempts fail, requiring multiple restarts of Kodi. Which is what I did, and just added my media sources in Koodi the "good old way" that always works. Hopefully this will be fixed though because I prefer the benefits of having Emby managing my media libraries. But when it doesn't work it doesn't work.
TeamB 2414 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 (edited) I tried to help but you told me you were not interested. I asked if you could compare this with EmbyCon to get a different approach result to see if we could rule out the addon or Kodi setup. I will wait for some more insight from the developer before I start looking for other factors As I have said, the community are the developers for this project. That be us. chjohans 34 Posted November 6, 2019 Author Posted November 6, 2019 (edited) @@TeamB I *did not* tell you I am not interested, no need to post an untrue statement that is totally unhelpful! EmbyCon works just fine with no playback issues, the problem is with the Emby for Kodi addon. I might be part of this community, but I am not a coder so this is beyond me to fix. If you have nothing helpful to add to this issue then I gracefully suggest that you don't add anything at all. Edited November 6, 2019 by chjohans
Luke 40079 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 As a test, can you try uninstalling the EmbyCon addon? @@TeamB may have found something when they are both installed together. Thanks.
fr0z3n 20 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Hey Luke I don't use embycon nor have it installed as an addon. I still get the playback error as evidenced in the log I sent you via PM

Thanks. I never had both Emby for Kodi and EmbyCon installed at the same time. If you need logs from the error both Emby server logs and Kodi logs at the time of multiple playback failures are attached to the first post in this thread.

Um dude I was trying to help, I am a coder and I was asking for more info about the problem and you told me and I will quote: I will wait for some more insight from the developer before I start looking for other factors I am just looking for more info as to what could be wrong. Trying different things and different addons to narrow down the issue is something any user can do, that is why I was asking you to do it. I have been writing and playing with these addons for a few years now and as a hobby support and built both the very original version of E4K and more recently the EmbyCon addon. I support where I can, with help form the community, when they can be bothered helping that is.
horstepipe 377 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 (edited) Fortunately I'm not able to reproduce it here anymore. Looks like all attempts in your log have external .srt subtitle files? Have you tried some media without attached subtitle files? I'd also suggest not to press "resume" for now. Start with the very basic to see where the trouble begins.. If you are referring to my log files, it's a coincidence if I pressed resume rather than play, and it's also a coincidence if the playback files happened to have a subtitle file. This issue happens both with media with and without a subtitle file, and if I press play or resume makes no difference.
