fight2fight 0
Hi again. i had this issue prior to updating the new emby server but seems to be happening alot more often now. so when i try to play a movie or show etc.. it will load a few seconds black sreen with loading circle then throw me back out to the info movie screen where you click "play" etc. similar to the one below... then ill back out and im confronted with error "There appears to be a problem accessing your server. Ensure it is running and the network is available." Along with "VolleyError" however ill move around the menus and load again the movie, most times will play the movie. but seems to be happening to many times that ill have to back out 5 times or so to play the movie. (happening to all movies and shows) Any reason why? Also my emby server on my PC, no issues plays and access everything one time. but the emby server on the nvidia shield i keep getting the mentioned issue above. Luke 37098
That is a server log, yes, but are you sure that's the one from the time period that you experienced the problem? That's a 13 second startup log which i'm guessing is from restarting the server afterwards, right?

Yea, when the error appeared on screen i go from my PC via the dashboard>Expert>Logs>embyserver.txt Is this the correct way to pull logs? also that error wont appear if i hit play it tries to load then goes back to the info screen and ill try to hit play a few times nothing happens so i back out meaning still in emby but back to the movie collection i try to select the movie again than only i see the error appear. i dont mean when i back out i go to nvidia home screen. when should i pull the logs is when the error appears? or when im return back to the info movie screen after hitting play but nothing happens? not sure if this will help again but i have attached logs EmbyServerLogs1.txt
Luke 37098
when should i pull the logs is when the error appears? Please start emby server, then get the problem to happen. Then once it has happened, please go back to Emby Server and capture the complete contents of the latest log file. Thanks !

Luke 37098
So this is a 13 second log. Are you really saying that during this 13 seconds you were able to start the server, then switch over to our Shield player app, and then create the problem, all in that time? Are you really saying that during this 13 seconds you were able to start the server, then switch over to our Shield player app, and then create the problem, all in that time? ok so to make sure im doing this correctly. iv loaded up the server side on my pc via 192.XXX.XXX.8096. now i go to my nvidia shield load emby and create the problem, then i go back to the site server side and under "expert" i click logs then click on the first recent emby server log? then a new tab opens i copy the whole log and save via notepad? if this is correct then this is what i have done below EmbyServerLogs3.txt
Luke 37098
So the server was already started when you wen to the Shield app, correct?
Luke 37098
Try slowing down a little bit. Start the server, then give it about 20-30 seconds, then go into the Shield app.
fight2fight 0
So the server was already started when you wen to the Shield app, correct? yes, i load up the server side page on my PC. Try slowing down a little bit. Start the server, then give it about 20-30 seconds, then go into the Shield app. yes i did that just now. loaded up server side and waited around 1 min. then went into the emby app and created the problem, however for some weird reason this time it kept showing the error and server was unavailable so i tried to pull the logs via the PC but the page became unavailable as well, so i checked the emby server on the nvidia shield and it was off. so i couldn't get logs, it did this twice with me, however i was able to create the problem but the server this time became accessible after the error so i pulled the logs and i did wait as well prior to creating the problem. so hopefully its captured the issue. but im starting to guess something to do with emby server on the nvidia shield must turn off and on by itself hence why when in the app to view my movies i sometimes get this error?? prunhardt 3
I had a similar problem after the update to Emby server 4.2. It's too early to tell if it holds, but I think I solved the problem by having the library rebuilt, following these instructions: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/54359-is-there-a-way-to-force-a-clean-and-renew-operation-on-the-database/ You can find the file library.db in this folder on the Shield: \\SHIELD\internal\Android\data\com.emby.embyserver\files\data
Ixnay7 1
Hello, I'm using the Emby Shield server and the Emby streaming app on shield as well for about one month now. I am experiencing the same issues mentioned here : - I experience server crashes just by browsing my library. Just looking into the details of movies or tv show and going back to home for 4-5 times gets me the error « There appears to be a problem accessing your server. Ensure it is running and the network is available. » What seems to appear here is that the server crashes and automatically restarts. The problem was there in 4.1 but since 4.2, I sometime have to manually restart it which is annoying. I reproduced the issue several time this morning, the logs are attached. - As mentioned in the beginning of this topic, I also experience issues when launching the movies. I have to launch it 3 to 5 times in order for it to really play. When it is launched, it plays flawlessly. I have the same issue when I use my iPhone to cast on my Chromecast. I tried as prunhardt mentioned to rebuilt the library this morning but this was before the attached tests so we can see now that it didn’t change anything. It seems that there is really some stability issues here and it weights on the user experience. I hope that this feedback can help to resolve those issues. I can provide more examples and logs if it can help you. embyserver-63700856219.txt embyserver-63700856437.txt embyserver-63700856533.txt embyserver-63700856636.txt embyserver-63700857161.txt Edited August 8, 2019 by Ixnay7
prunhardt 3
Have you ruled out influences outside Emby, like Shield firmware, or connection issues with your media storage? What does your setup look like?
killride 45
I have the same issue sometimes on my shield running Emby for Android (my server is on WIndows server)
Ixnay7 1
Hi, It really looks related to Emby. I used Plex previously and I had different issues (difficulty to play subs and several video format) but doesn't seems related. I am using a Nvidia Shield 2017 as Emby Server and also media box, since it is connected to my main TV. It is next to my internet router and connected in Ethernet. I use a Synology DS218j as storage (about 1TB of files), also next to the router and connected in Ethernet. I have a very good fiber internet connection : Netflix, MyCanal (French streaming app), Youtube, everything works flawlessly, instantly in HD, never cuts. To play the content, I mainly use the shield or a chromecast on my other tv. Now on the shield, I have about 7Go of free storage space that Emby can use. I installed last week the 4.2.1.0 version of the server as I saw it was available. It seems to be slightly better, especially less tries for playing the files. But I still get some Volley Errors and Emby is still crashing way too easily just by browsing the medias. I tried to find ways to monitor the CPU/Ram usage of the shield but unsuccessfully... prunhardt 3
Yesterday, the VoleyError returned after a week of stable Emby operation, and all the symptoms of having to try multiple times to start a video with it. This was after a connection error with my NAS, with which the Shield lost connection. I had to manually restore the connection. After restoring the connection, the Emby server was instable. I could solve this by having it rebuilt by scanning the library after renaming the file library.db. So, could it be that this instability problem has two causes: a connection error with your media storage, leading to a corrupt Emby library? And to solve it you have to make sure the connection is stable, and then the library rebuilt afterwards? Now, on the connection problem: In the past, on Shield firmware v7.2.3 I had set the Shield to never go to sleep, same for the NAS, and I had set the NAS to max SMB1 protocol and uplocks switched off, following instructions from NVidia to solve similar reported problems for the PLEX server. After upgrading to v8.0.0 on the SHIELD (and a factory reset, just to be sure), and thinking the Emby server is now stable after rebuilding the libray, I set my NAS to max SMB3 and uplocks switched on, the default and preferred values. Now, with the VoleyError returning, I switched the NAS settings back to never sleep, max SMB1 and uplocks switched off. The Shield is set to never sleep as well. All this hoping to get a stable connection between Shield and NAS again. My NAS is a WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra, by the way. I will keep you posted. fight2fight 0
@@fight2fight are you still running into this?Hi Luke, sorry for the late response, there has been a server update not long ago I did that and everything seemed to work a lot better and if it did happen it would be very rare. But for some reason started to happen again but what I am noticing is the actual server is freezing/shutting off I have to manually turn it on again but I’m getting no errors just trying to load the server? It even happens to me when I’m trying to access via web browser on a pc? Edit: Thought to also test on my iPhone via the web browser and it works flawlessly without any issue, but it only happening on my shield and pc lol ? prunhardt 3
Yesterday, on server 4.2.1.0, I went through one of my libraries to test if every file would play in Emby. So, press play, stop after a few seconds, stop playing, go to the next, etc. I got all symptoms mentioned above randomly. Sometimes the server would stop and needed a restart. Then the file would play fine. So my idea now is that there's no real pattern, but Emby server is choking every now and then. Please note that I've installed the latest hot fix of the Shields firmware. To see if it would improve things I installed version 4.3.0.11 beta, and I must say that the server seems much more responsive. Doing the same test again didn't give any error.
