Adding external folder to Library

Hi!

 

I've managed to set up Emby on my QNAP TS-653B, but ran into a problem. A small percentage of my media files isn't located directly on the NAS, but on my PC instead. So I wanted to add those folders also to the Emby Library, but it doesn't work.

So, let's say the folder I want to add is called "720P" and the PC is called "Mother". I've tried to use \\Mother\720P or instead of the Server name use the IP address of the PC \\192.168.178.20\720P but that's not working too.

 

Accessing the folder without Emby is working, I've mounted it in the QNAP File Station under CIFS/SMB connections successfully, so the general network sharing seems to be working. 

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this?

When you mounted the network share to your qnap it would have created a mount point (i.e a local path), the path to this mount point is what you need to add to the Library for emby to see it and find your media

I don't know where I could find this information. Can you elaborate, please?

I need more details how to do this. Below you can see how it looks from the FileStation App. I've looked around all the options I could find there, but I didn't see anything that could be some local path.

As this is a qnap problem - i.e. you dont know where you mounted it too - i would go and ask on the QNAP forums - once you have it mounted to a known path - then you can input the path into emby

Is it even necessary to mount the external source first before I can add it to Emby? Why isn't the network link not working? Gaining access to the folder from another PC is working fine either using \\Mother\720P or the IP Address followed by the folder name.

I cannot be the only one who wants to add an external source to the Media Library, so I assume this has been done by someone else before me. Do I maybe have to change some Networking settings?

Are you not able to mount it to a local share in QNAP?

Okay, after some research I've managed to mount my local shares in the NAS, using Putty and some console commands. I had hoped to be able to do the same thing, just using some nice GUI with the Software already installed on the NAS, but as previously mentioned, this didn't work, at least not for me.

After mounting the folders, Emby is now able to locate them, so for now all is working as intended. As you know, I'm by no means an experienced NAS user, and many of the processes are new to me. @@PenkethBoy Will those mounts remain active after I shut down the NAS? The IP Adresses of the NAS and the local shares on my PC are fixed, but I have no idea of the inner workings of that Linux file system. It would be not very effective to have to remount everything after a reboot.
