After the update from 4.0.3.0 to 4.1.0.26 and also with 4.1.1.0 I too am no longer seeing hardware acceleration options. I have attached hardware detections logs from 4.0.3.0 and 4.1.1.0.

@@Biomorph - It would be better if you had created a new thread

This is creating too much much confusion - at least for myself... ;-)

What OS do you have? Does it support DirectX 11.1?

Sorry, being that this thread existed and had been viewd I thought best to carry on here.

Running Win 7 Pro so I believe supports DX11 but 11.1 I'm not so sure about.

@@Biomorph - Nevermind, I've split this into a separate conversation.

Could you please run 'dxdiag'

(Win-Key + R, then enter 'dxdiag' and press enter)

I have Googled 20190430-19af948 x64 and downloaded the file found, so I just replace ffdetect, ffmpeg and ffprobe in the system folder with these newer files?

Yes, but save the old FFmpeg before.

Reboot Emby and try.

Updated to 4.1.1.0, copied files to system folder, rebooted and still nothing listed under preferred hardware decoders.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about AMD card.

For hardware acceleration Nvidia is more convenient.

Have a user currently watching, is transcoding via software and have also noticed that the throttling doesn't appear to be occuring.

Will have to revert back to 4.0.3.0 and hope a resolution comes about in a future release.

We will fix this on our side. At some point we are checking whether DX11 is available while we should actually check for DX11.1 instead.

But until this is done, there is one thing that you can try:

There exists a platform update for Win 7 that adds "partial" support for DX11.1 - but that partial support might be sufficient.

Information : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/direct3darticles/platform-update-for-windows-7

Download: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2670838/platform-update-for-windows-7-sp1-and-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1

DISCLAIMER: There might be some risks installing that update. Please read through all information before making a decision.

If you decide to try:

  • Create a system restore point
  • Better switch to onboard graphics before updating (if available)
Connect your monitor to onboard graphics, restart, install latest drivers for onboard graphics
  • Create another system restore point
  • Install the platform update
  • Connect your monitor back to the Radeon

Thanks for the info @@softworkz.

As the physical server is also used to run a client taking these steps would probably require more downtime then the kids will allow!

Just knowing that there is a fix coming in the future is great to hear and I'll sit tight on 4.0 till then.

Also a big thank you for your contribution overall to the development of Emby.

I have installed the new 4.2 release and again there is no listing under preferred hardware decoders, is the fix not yet implemented or might there be another issue?
