sprtfan 3
Sorry, posted in wrong forum to start out with. I have a Surface RT that I was trying to find a use for and didn't know if anyone has tried using it as a HTPC or if it was even worth trying? If someone has given it a try, how did you set it up? Just use wireless or get an adapter to run a line to? How did you decide to control it? Any info to help me get started would be great. Deathsquirrel 741
I have a surface RT and the wifi is not especially speedy. Might work as a client with a wired ethernet hook-up through USB. Playback of media stored locally works fine so there's no video chipset issue that I've seen.
sfnetwork 514
Plus, if I'm not mistaking, it doesn't decode/passthrough DD/DTS, etc... so as HTPC, pretty useless depending on the setup... And if it's for a small TV somewhere, there are better options as well (and cheaper) like CC, Roku, etc... So, to answer your question with my personal opinion, not worth it as HTPC IMO.
