DataHoarder 0 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Hi, I'm an Emby Premiere customer, currently experiencing an issue with playback on Apple TV. Playback of Direct Streaming media (no transcoding) on Apple TV (4th gen) is not working correctly. Video pauses for ~10ms every ~10 seconds. Audio is unaffected. This is happening on 4.1.0.23 in an iocage running on FreeNAS 11.2-U3. It was also happening on 4.0.0.2. I updated to 4.1.0.23 yesterday, but the problem persists. This appears to be happening due to repeated 'HTTP Response 204 messages in the logs. I should mention that this server has been running flawlessly for around 1 year. This issue has been happening for approximately 2 weeks. I have the server logs here, and will be happy to share them via DM (logs are littered with my server's URL). I hope someone can assist with this. Thanks.
denz 453 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 That sounds like a network error are you using apple tv inside your network or outside but within logs it will be just gessing. With the logs you can always find and replace your server ip address with myip that is how i post logs plus i remove any other info.
ebr 15574 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 What happens if you lower the in-app quality setting? What is the bitrate of the content?
DataHoarder 0 Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 Hi all, thanks for the responses. Great shout on obfuscating my URL. Log is attached. Lowering the in-app quality makes no difference. This is happening to all media, streamed across a wired home LAN which has worked perfectly well for some considerable time.
DataHoarder 0 Posted April 15, 2019 Author Posted April 15, 2019 Oops. Turns out the log didn't attach. Here it is. embyserver.txt
denz 453 Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 To assist can you write the time you started watching tv and when errors occur. Thanks
DataHoarder 0 Posted April 15, 2019 Author Posted April 15, 2019 Thanks Denz, The error occurs every 10secs without fail.
ebr 15574 Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 What is the bitrate of the content? What did you lower the quality setting to in the app? Were any ffmpeg logs produced?
DataHoarder 0 Posted April 15, 2019 Author Posted April 15, 2019 If I reduce the quality to 720p, the bitrate is 1.2Mbps. There are no ffmpeg logs as this is Direct Play.
DataHoarder 0 Posted April 15, 2019 Author Posted April 15, 2019 Incidentally, the freeze every 10 secs happens at all bitrates. Interestingly, this only happens on Apple TV devices, not web or iOS apps.
ebr 15574 Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 @@DataHoarder Can we please see the media info as shown on the detail page of the web app for this item? If it continued to direct play, then you did not lower the quality enough to cause transcoding. I'm trying to determine if transcoding makes the issue go away. Thanks.
corey 315 Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 I also have some additional info that may be related to the media info that we need to see. I've seen this happen on a Apple TV 4th gen and NOT for an Apple TV 4K for the same video file.
mpearon 7 Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 (edited) I'm experiencing the exact same issues on 4.0.3.0. I'm Direct Playing across LAN to a 4th Generation AppleTV and every 10 seconds, there is a very brief stop in the video, but the audio plays on unaffected. I've attached a log for review. Be aware that I've redacted IPs/Paths, but left the structure the same. embyLog.txt UPDATE I just finished an update from 4.0.3.0 to 4.1.1.0 and the issue persists. Edited May 21, 2019 by mpearon
Senna 368 Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 (edited) UPDATE I just finished an update from 4.0.3.0 to 4.1.1.0 and the issue persists. An update has been released after your initial post, so please restart or force close the app, to get this new update (downloaded to your Apple TV by the Emby app itself), which might solve your issue.
