m326697 0
Team, what is the best way to secure my Emby Server form outside my local network?? I am trying to secure my server but I am a bit confused. If I have DLNA turned on, only devices on my local network can access my Emby Server. Correct?? I setup EMBY Theater on a different PC at home and when I went to access the Emby server, it did not ask me to sign in. I was able to browse my Videos. What protocol is Emby Theater using?? What protocol is Firestick with Emby App using?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks MT
Gilgamesh_48 945
Unless you have devices that are DLNA only you do not need and should not enable DLNA at all. I have mine turned off. Using the apps you mentioned you do not need to do anything special at all. If you are not wanting to share with others from outside your home you should just uncheck, under advanced, Allow remote connections to this Emby Server. If unchecked then your Emby server will refuse all external connections attempts. After that you really need do nothing beyond securing your network to secure your Emby server. Emby will be no more vulnerable than anything else connected to your network.
Gerrit507 24
The apps use http or https, depending on what you configure them. That you were able to access emby without a login or even entering any connection data sounds odd to me. I've never experienced this. Happy2Play 8332
DLNA broadcasts on your local network and requires no authentication and only works with DLNA compatible clients. All of Emby app/clients are http/https I believe and require authentication.
m326697 0
Thanks for all the replies. What is strange to me is that if I sign out of Emby theater and then click on the user it logs right in without asking for a password. What's the point of signing out if I can get back in.. Strange. I'll keep playing around with settings until I can come up with something regards MT

m326697 0
Thanks Luke, you are absolutely right. I could have sworn I set a password after my Server was hacked last week and I deleted the 2 random users and recreated my User Account. I guess I didn't or did not do it correctly. I have set a password and now Emby Theater is asking for it when I log into my Server. I'm glad I tested it with Emby Theater otherwise I still would not be totally secure. Thank You again MT
