I have a movie that fails to play on the 8.1 Store App. It plays fine in Classic as well as the Windows Phone app so I don't think it's the server. It's a .MKV file with DTS-ES audio track as well as multiple subtitle tracks.

Here is the file info:

Can you try to change your streaming settings within the app to a little bit lower and let me know which works and which doesn't?

TIA

Thanks for the reply. I did the testing you asked.

My HTPC has the server installed (latest release) updated last night as well as the latest Windows Store app update to the 8.1 App.

I am streaming to a Surface RT.

If I drop the streaming settings to:

1080p - 15Mbps it plays fine.

1080p - 25Mbps plays but it buffers every 30-45 seconds of playback.

Max results in the File failed to play screen.

Thanks for looking into this. Love the app!

All the lower settings stream fine as to be expected.. I have a Asus RT-AC66U router and all wired CAT6 so throughput shouldn't be an issue afaik...

Do you think this will fix my issue? - that is 99% of my videos don't play in the Win 8 app (I was surprised the other day when I randomly picked one that did play).

If you lower the streaming quality in the app will your files then play? Try lowering the streaming quality level from max to 720p and if the file then plays gradually raise the quality level back up until it won't play. If it works for you on lower quality settings it's the same issue I have.
