Live streams stop playing

Emby server running on Synology NAS DS216+, 8gb ram using Live TV with iptv m3u stream. Periodically I am running into an issue where I can no longer play m3u streams. Once the problem presents itself the only way to resolve it is by restarting Emby. This causes shows not be recorded because Emby can't tune to the channel.

I cannot pin down the exact steps that cause the issue but some things seem to cause it:

- Viewing too many streams over the course of the day

- Trying to view a stream that is down (this one causes the problem a lot)

- Recording some shows and then viewing streams afterwards

The problem presents itself as the never ending spinning circle and in the logs I see "Unknown Profile, No direct play profiles found for Path". The streams in the logs that are showing this error I played after in VLC and the streams are fine. It is not a url/stream problem.

I thought maybe the issue was with the Synology NAS. To test this theory I installed Emby server on a dell core i7 laptop. I scheduled 3 shows to record at the same time and all three shows recorded. Afterwards I was unable to stream any channel.

Profile: Unknown Profile, No direct play profiles found for Path

I tried playing the stream from both web and roku, neither would play and produced the error in the log file. Afterwards I played the stream through VLC and it played just fine.

Restarted the server and then the streams worked correctly again. Logs from the second test server attached.

ok try the following it has worked for me!

expert settings internet streaming bitrate = blank

on the m3u tuner in the user agent put exactly, "VLC"   without the quotes, just done this and it has fixed it perfectly for me

Expert settings bitrate was already blank and put in VLC into the user agent, no change.

I was able to reproduce just now with the following steps:

1. Try to play channel that is down (spinning circle)

2. Refresh page (or on Roku go back) and try to play another known working channel

3. Broken

Similar logs from trying on the roku, full logs attached to previous posts. Since this is happening on two different servers and multiple clients it can't be a coincidence.

I hope there is a fix other than "restart" all the time.

Hi.  I changed the title of your topic because those log messages are not related to your issue and I didn't want others seeing the title, and then those messages in their log and then think they have a problem.

Something appears to be getting jammed up somewhere.  We just need to figure out where and why.

Thanks.

ebr: I am ok with changing the post title and thanks for that extra information. I reviewed logs of successfully playing a channel and I see those same messages. I guess they must be unrelated to the root cause.

Please let us know if enabling the stream looping option fixes your issue.

If so, this should be fixed in the next release of the server.

Thanks.

I will throw my hat into the ring also. Same provider, same issue. Streams work fine via vlc and the beastiptv website, just never start for me in emby. Also same thing with streams from my HD home run.Tried changing user agent to vlc and the auto loop option, no luck. Running the debian release.

I am testing out the VLC/Autoloop change now. When is the next version of the server scheduled to be released, I don't show any updates for Synology?

What type of stream do you have? m3u8? .ts? or?

m3u. Processed by xtream editor. Same provider though, beast. Also my HD Home Run boxes via antenna.

Please try again with the next release of Emby Server. Thanks.

I upgraded to the beta version. 4.1.0.10, Debian x64. Working as of now. Time will tell.

The M3U provided to me by my provider lists each stream as ####.m3u8

I was never able to get any of them to work in Emby. I changed the ####.m3u8 to ####.ts for each channel in the M3U and it started working.

Try adding a stream in VLC (ctrl N) and then change the .m3u8 to .ts see if it plays. If it does try adding the M3U to Emby after making that change (use something like notepad++), see if it works for you.

I have not been able to reproduce the problem on either the Synology NAS or a i7 laptop with the VLC user agent and auto looping on. Thanks for the work around!

I would recommend that everyone stay away from the Synology NAS version until it is optimized better. The system gets easily bogged down, performs slow. Tasks that are fast on the laptop like scanning local media and guide refresh are extremely slow on the Synology. I know it is possible for it to be as fast because Plex does not have these slowdown issues. The CPU is always around 15% so I don't think cpu or ram is the problem.

The beta just because I like to test but one feature in the current dev branch is improved iptv support, plus easier to keep an eye on system resources and will be even better when I learn how to use traefik, docker is preferable for the most part for me, I have like nzbget emby xteve nzb hydra sonarr radar amongst others and it's ace

On the beta how long does a guide refresh take? For example ~170 channels and a 7 day 20mb guide takes about an hour on my Synology and 5-8 minutes on the laptop.
