When I try to play a tv episode in this entire season, I get this error:

No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details.

It happens on the roku app and in my web browser.

Here is the full error log, lot of repetition: https://pastebin.com/yc0a4Jtx

It has this same error repeated from what I can tell: https://pastebin.com/Fp1MWVJR

These episodes in this season are AVI format, as are all of the others. The season before it and after it play fine. This problem season, DOES play on VLC on my computer. I tried deleting all of the files for that season and re-adding them from my backup.

I also tried uninstalling Trakt.tv.

I also tried changing the permissions for the top level folder that contains this season, other seasons, and all of my tv shows. I changed the permissions to chmod 775. I don't have remote access to this web server enabled.

I think it might have something to do with ffmeg

I now tried granting all permissions to all 3 groups (owner, group, other) via right clicking the folder, but this time, I checked the box to apply to subfolders and files, still having the same issue, but the log file doesn't have any permission denied lines. Still shows that ffmeg error

I heard that after emby went closed source, there is limited or no transcoding. I'll get you that other log in 30 min when I get home

Hi, that's not true. You still have transcoding, it is only hardware transcoding that requires Emby Premiere. Thanks, we'll look at the log once attached.

What advantage is there to going to the closed source version?

Here are my logs. I tried to play the problematic episode and it spit out these 7 logs:

[deleted bc it was a log for a working episode]

https://pastebin.com/ZnnDr0CR

https://pastebin.com/eyCEUgpC

https://pastebin.com/eXXd6gfW

https://pastebin.com/3vrjGD6U

https://pastebin.com/Z9micqHt

https://pastebin.com/w24bD2Me

embyserver.txt

edit: first link ZnnDr0CR is from the episode I tried to play "season 2 ep 1" of the sopranoes. Embyserver.txt has an error about half way down, says: "Error starting ffmpeg emby". That's part of this excerpt:

System.Exception: Error starting ffmpeg
at Emby.Server.MediaEncoding.Api.BaseStreamingService.StartFfMpeg(StreamState state, String outputPath, EncodingOptions encodingOptions, CancellationTokenSource cancellationTokenSource, Boolean acquireResources)

What's confusing is that this file I'm trying to play is an avi file like the others in this TV show series, and the other seasons of episodes play just fine.

Regarding these logs it's hard to say. There's no movement from ffmpeg, as if it had stalled for some reason. It could possibly be a file permissions problem. It could also be a problem in the server that is resolved in 4.0.

I agree about the support  :) compared to other services. But I mean the closed source version vs the open source version I'm on right now. I'm going to try the new version anyway though.

I've gone through some permissions stuff. I've tried to give chmod -R 777 . permissions to var/lib/emby/root/default/ too. As well as in the parent directory of the media files.

I'll try updating to the new emby and report back. Thanks for your help thus far. This is probably the most responsive support I've had out of any free software forum I've used.

Upgraded to 4.0.2.0 and it works!! Hopefully I don't need hardware transcoding. I still don't really understand what that does.

Thanks for your help.
