ServerGuy 20
Given my current server hardware (see below), would it be beneficial to add graphics cards to the server? Currently, while transcoding, FFMPEG will use around 15% CPU for a single file. My worry is that if I have multiple users transcoding I will eventually hit a ceiling without enabling throttling. I have a few graphics cards laying around unused and am curious if it would see a benefit adding them to the server. The graphics cards I have are Quadro K600s or Quadro 295s My server has the following specs: PowerEdge R720XD Dual socket - Xeon E5-2650 V2 (8 Core each socket) 64GB PC3-12800

Guest asrequested
Test it. Open multiple browser windows and play a transcoded movie in each one. Enable throttling in the server and see what happens.
ServerGuy 20
I guess my question is more, if I add the noted cards would some of that load be taken over by the graphics cards or are there any other benefits to adding them into my existing system? Guest asrequested
My suggestion would be to wait until you have an issue, then you can add a GPU. When the GPU is selected for HWA it will have priority, and if it's maxed out, the rest will fall back to the CPU.
