Can anyone tell me why playing/streaming the same media buffers a lot on Emby but not on Plex?

Hi.  We would have to look at an example.

Thanks.

How to Report a Problem

Ok I will try to do that but may have figured it out on my own.

The same movie on Emby does direct play where on Plex it does transcoding.

Isn't direct play more likely to buffer or have issues ? I may be wrong sorry.

Actually my experience is that having to transcode increases the likelihood that buffering will happen. Of course things like a file with a high bitrate could cause buffering when the file is direct playing while transcoding that file might get the bitrate under control. But I do not have any files that are high enough bitrate to make that happen.

Also I have pretty much had to abandon Plex because of unreliability issues including buffering and slow startup of the app and playback and other rather extreme slow responses that Plex has developed over the last year or so.

I guess I should state that I do NOT use any file that stresses my system like 4K or other over hyped file types.

The only time I have had any buffering to speak of in Emby is when a switch on my network decided to throw a fit and a simple reset of that switch cured everything.
