GTX1060 4k Transcoding - Linux Mint

Linux Mint 19

Intel i5-3570k VAAPI

GeForce GTX 1060 unlocked for multiple streams

Seems when I transcode 4k specifically 2 streams, my CPU runs about 100% while the GPU is stressed minimally.

How should I investigate this?

Both are using the gpu, but the fact that it's burning in subtitles could be related. burning in subtitles is a very expensive operation. you could try turning off the subtitles.

Also of note here is that although my CPU was running at 1 hundred percent while transcoding those two 4k videos, my GPU was only running at about 5 to 10 % utilization

Understood, but it's possible the burning in of subtitles is playing a role in that. Thanks.

Just for that one playback session prior to playback. You can do that directly on the detail screen.
