MuddyWaters 0 Posted December 8, 2018 Share Posted December 8, 2018 I've been looking all over for an answer to this and can't seem to find this exact issue. I'm working on switching from Plex to Emby and so far video/movie/tv etc all seem to work just fine but music is not. I've worked tirelessly to make sure all my songs are properly setup with artwork and consistent tags due to Plex pickiness but for some reason it seems like Emby is not bothering to read the ID3 tags or artwork at all. ginjaninja 540 Posted December 8, 2018 Share Posted December 8, 2018 no plugin needed to read tags Remove all tag formats from file bar one..id3v2 2.3 UTF-16 suggested (all other softwares including plex i am aware of like this) check extended tags in eg. mp3tag to ensure you dont have multiple similar tagnames eg albumartist and album artist the linked wiki says that folder structure is not important but just to rule out i would go with "library\artist\album\songs.mp3" not sure how much it matters but make sure emby library is of type "music" start of with a couple of artist and a couple of albums, and post some screenshots, so we can see what is being shown. bottom line is songs are parsed with ffprobe...the output of ffprobe.exe determines embys database with regards to music. Each genre is in a folder ie jazz/blues/folk etc. Then each file is named artist_album_-_01_songname.flac with a fully populated id3 tag. Works just fine in Plex/Kodi and all music programs I use, just not so much in Emby so far. I've spot checked a few songs with ffprobe and it's finding all the tag info with no errors. Maybe they just take 24 hours to fully populate when the server is new? The wiki should have a note about limitations of no structure. *I could see issues with metadata/image saving in a flat structure also, dependent on library settings. Thanks for looking into this. FYI this bit is in the wiki : "Or even a flat library of song files: \Music 1- Song.mp3 2- Song.mp3 Any naming convention for audio files is acceptable. Track numbers are retrieved using embedded ID3 tag information." You may want to reword or remove part of it, made me think it would accept my file structure. ginjaninja 540 Posted December 9, 2018 Share Posted December 9, 2018 the wiki does make it look like a flat structure is supported, i agree the wiki needs a tweak. mp3tag has the ability to change the entire structure in one go ie move files, create artist and album folders automatically based on tags with a user defined action (backup music library first). never saw the attraction of a flat structure. what are the advantages?
