jntaylor1701 6
I was playing around with the Emby Android app and wanted to test out casting with the Nvidia Shield and its built in chromecast. When I cast a 4K movie, it trans codes. When I play the movie directly on Emby with the Shield, it direct plays. Its not a deal breaker, just wanted to try out casting with Emby. Luke 37064
The problem is that the Chromecast is not reporting support for hevc even though the device supports it, therefore the transcoding is happening.
jntaylor1701 6
Ok, but is it because the bulit in Chromecast doesn't support 4k in it's hardware, like it's really the 1st Gen Chromecast or something in the programming? If it's hardware, then that makes me wonder if the 4k TVs with Chromecast like Visio are really 4k.
Jdiesel 1114
The Shield TV should support 4K Chromecasting
jntaylor1701 6
The Shield TV should support 4K Chromecasting I would say it should, but Emby speaking to Shield thinks otherwise. Luke, could there be a way to update or force Emby to cast 4K?
Luke 37064
It's possible for the future. Thanks.
jntaylor1701 6
It's possible for the future. Thanks. Just to be clear, the chromecast ultra dongle should direct play 4k from the Emby app; assuming that the video/audio is in spec. Thanks for listening to user feedback!
