Using Mint 19, Emby 3.5.3.0.

The past several weeks, my brother has been accessing Emby as me (see below for more details) and watching live TV just fine. He keeps accidentally hitting the 'record' button and I end up with a few odd recordings. To stop that, I told him we need to get his own account working again so I can remove the ability to record TV. So I sent him an invite to one of his email accounts. When he attempts to log in to my server via Emby connect, he gets an error that the server can't be reached. If he goes to my server ip:8096, he gets logged right in, AS ME!

While trying to figure out what's going on, from my server, I went to app.emby.media and logged in. I could see my server and when I click on it and click 'connect', I get this error:

We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again.

On my Android phone (not on wifi, just cell network).... if I go to app.emby.media and click on my server, same error.

From my Android phone again (no wifi, just cell network access), if I go to my server ip:8096, I get logged right in perfectly as my account.....(same thing happens for my brother when accessing via IP. I don't want that to happen though! I'm guessing this might be a configuration setting I can change but I really need Emby connect to work.)

Why is Emby Connect not finding my server? I tried that 'canyouseeme' and it passes. I can access my server from other PCs in the house and directly with the IP from outside my network. Anything with Emby Connect seems to be busted. I don't have any firewall installed and 8096 TCP/UDP is being forwarded on my router to the server that Emby is running on.

Server log attached, thanks!

Edit 1: Doing some Googling on my Emby Connect problem and "Allow remote connections" is checked.

Can you check the browser console for errors? Also check the addresses displayed on the server dashboard because that's what it will try to connect with.

On the dashboard, I see this in the 'alert' section:

Failed login attempt from (my brother)
11/5/2018, 8:10:38 pm
Ip address: x.x.x.x

(I can provide his name/IP address via PM if you want)

Weird though, I don't see anything in that alert section for the failed Emby Connect attempts? And yes, the IP address for the server that is displayed on the dash is my public IP.

You need to use the http version of the online web app since you do not have SSL set up

http://app.emby.media

Ok, so that worked! Do I need to re-send an invite to my brother, from the un-secured app.emby.media address?! I'll have to catch him tomorrow but when he was launching the Emby app on his Roku, it prompted him to log in on the PC and type in a pin number (guessing similar to how Plex does it)  to link his Emby app. I'm thinking that the reason it kept failing for him is because he was going to httpS://app.emby.media and not http://app.emby.media? (I've never been invited to somebody else's Emby server so I'm assuming that's the address it gives you on the screen?

Hopefully that's all he needs to do tomorrow. Will update after I talk with him, thanks Luke!!!

He just needs to accept the original invite.

My brother tried logging into https://app.emby.media and gets a message that there are no servers to connect to (guess that's normal since I don't have my own SSL cert.) and if he clicks on 'Sign in with Emby connect' it just loops back to the same screen. (Again, as you pointed out yesterday, I need to use http so maybe this is a non-issue and can be considered 'as expected'?)

However, if he accesses http://app.emby.media, he can log in................but for some ultra strange reason, when he starts to stream a TV show, the dashboard shows -MY- account as the one streaming TV (My account is 'Gene')

Attaching screen shots and browser console logs. (One log is with https and the other as http)

My brother's account is lboston.

So he can log in as 'lboston' but when streaming, my account shows up as the one streaming.

Because you linked his Emby Connect account to your local user on your server.

Guess I'll just delete his account but how do I invite him to my server as a normal user and not link him to my local user account? When I added him, I think I just went into the Users tab on the dashboard and added a user and sent him an invite.

Create another local user and link him to that.

Ok, that fixed it, thank you! So looking back, I guess I screwed something up and linked him to my account somehow. Any chance a new version of Emby could 'stupid proof' adding people?

How is Emby supposed to know that what you did was not intended?

In Plex, I can go to the 'Invite Friend' section, type a user's email address, set their libraries and away they go. I've never had issues with me inviting friends in Plex and when they stream something from me, they show up as me. I hear what you're saying though, I apparently linked him to my local account but I have absolutely no idea how I could have done that. When I was trying to set him up in Emby, I went into the 'Users' tab, clicked the plus sign, entered my brother's email address and when he accepted my invite, he was connected and streaming TV under my account.

While I was able to fix it, I couldn't tell you what I did to un-do things. Even now, the invite I recently sent him went to a particular email address. But if I go into 'Users' and open his account, it has the username (in the email address field) of another account I used when trying to get him set up the first time through. I'm not worried about that because it's working now ..... just wish I knew what I could have done differently to have avoided this problem. It was a fresh install of Emby. Installed it, added my HDHR and went into the User's section and invited him.
